A 1 Features
Flask Press EWL 5407 is designed to compress flasks, both individuall and appropriate to the material, b means of a smooth build-up of
the working pressure to 6 metric tons.
After completion of the procedure, Flask Press EWL 5407 is immediatel read for further operation, as the reinforced s nthetic-resin
pressure piston automaticall retracts after opening the valve. A high-qualit manometer submerged in the housing to prevent
contamination, precisel reproduces the generated pressure.
In addition to the rust-free s nthetic pressure piston, the lifetime of the press is enhanced b the construction of drawn steel (no danger of
breaking) and the robust resin-coated housing.
A distance of 152 mm between the pillars ensures that the press is also suitable for larger flasks and flask clamps.
A 2 For your safety
A 2.1 Observance of the Operating Instructions
Each user of the unit is assumed to have a thorough knowledge and observance of these operating instructions. The unit is designed onl
for the applications described. In these operating instructions, particularly important comments are illustrated as follows:
Warning! This is a warning relating to risk and dangerous situations. Non-compliance with this warning can lead to life-
threatening situations. These warnings must be strictl observed.
Information! This is information relating to specific characteristics to be observed.
A 2.2 Safety considerations
None
A 2.3 Liability for function and damage
If the unit is improperl maintained, repaired, or altered b an unqualified person; or is used for purposes for which it was not designed,
then the responsibilit for proper function is solel carried b the owner or operator of the unit.
The unit must be maintained and operated in accordance with these operating instructions.
KaVo EWL is not liable for damage arising as a result of non-compliance with the above information.
Guarantee and liabilit conditions as described in the Sales and Deliver Conditions from KaVo EWL are not extended through the above
information.
Ensure that these operating instructions are available at all times, are read, and understood.
A 3 Applications
The h draulic press is designed to compress flasks, both individuall and appropriate to the material, b means of a smooth build-up of the
working pressure to 6 metric tons.

A 4 Preparing for installation
A 4.1 Unpacking / Transport
Remove all packing materials, and set the unit on a firm and flat surface.
Check the included accessories (see A 8.3)
When shipping the unit, pack it in a suitable container to prevent transport damage.
A 4.2 Installation / Storage
Before use, the press must have reached room temperature.
Set the unit on its final place, horizontall level.
Ensure that the working and operating areas are not cramped (observe unit dimensions).
Do not set up outside!
For long-term storage, protect the unit against dampness and dust.
A 5 Preparing for operation
To ensure an even distribution of pressure, centre the flask on the pressure piston.
Wind the spindle down onto the flask.
The usual pressure required lies between 2,5 and 5 metric tons. This area is coloured green on the manometer. In order to prevent
damage to flasks and the press, do not pump be ond the maximum indicated on the manometer.

A 6 Operating the unit
All recommendations for the applications of the unit, whether oral, written or in the form of practical instructions, are based on our
own experience and tests and can, therefore, onl be considered as guidelines.
1. Prepare the flask – see A 5
2. Close the pressure valve b turning the black knob at the front of the housing to “ZU”
3. Operate the pump handle to build up the pressure – do not go be ond maximum!
Green area in manometer
4. Pause occasionall and, if necessar , continue pumping – observe maximum pressure!
5. When the screws on the flask clamp are tight and the pressure remains constant, it can be released b opening the pressure valve.
6. Wind the spindle up and remove the flask.
• While the acr lic is being distributed under pressure, the indicator will fall.
• Therefore, a complete pressing can onl be achieved b pumping several times, with appropriate pauses. When the flask is completel
closed, the pressure remains constant.
• A built-in return spring automaticall retracts the pressure piston to its zero position.
• The piston-stroke is approx. 12 mm.
• When this height is reached, an automatic piston-height limitation opens, and pressure can no longer be produced.
The oil level must be constantl checked when the pressure piston is retracted. Fill with oil if necessar . To do this, remove the
ventilation screw (oil fill duct) located on the housing behind the left pillar. No damage will occur if too much oil is put in, as the
surplus will flow out of the duct. Onl use h draulic oil 0.489.2007!
A 7 Troubleshooting
Problem Possible cause Possible remedy
Pressure does not build up, or Oil level was below minimum Ventilate the press as
onl limited pressure is reached. and during filling, air got into described below.
the s stem
Despite closed flask, pressure Pressure valve contaminated Vigorous pumping, after
falls to zero, or pump plunger replacing with correct oil
rises under pressure.
Ventilation instructions
1. Tilt the press to the right, and then pump.
2. No success? - then remove the pump plunger as follows, and fill with oil to the upper edge of the guide sleeve.
- Loosen the threaded pin in the U-piece.
- Pull out the pump handle.
- Pull the pump plunger up out of the guide sleeve.
- Fill with EWL h draulic oil 0.489.2007.
- Re-assembl follows in reverse order, whereb two points must be observed:
a) Do not cant the pump plunger
b) Take care not to damage the quad ring.
If the above measures do not solve the problem, contact our local Dealer or our Technical Customer Service.
