lights, and let the experience begin!
THE QUATTRO TriFX™ SURROUND SPEAKER
The QUATTRO TFX™ is an innovative concept in surround channel speaker design, invented by Ken Kreisel.
The QUATTRO TFX™ speaker can operate in three modes: TriFx™, Dipole and Direct Radiator. You can select these
modes by inserting or removing a jumper on the back of the speaker. They can also be switched remotely by
using an external speaker selector box..
In the Dipole mode, the QUATTROTriFX™ radiates sound mostly from its left and right drivers in a gure-of- eight
pattern with an acoustic null toward the front of the speaker.
In the TriFX™ mode the QUATTRO TFX™ features a unique 180 degree sound radiation pattern with DIRECT
FRONT drivers and FIGURE 8 SIDE-FIRING drivers. The TriFX™ mode produces a near perfect 180 degree sound
illumination pattern providing a very large side surround and/or back surround listening sweetspot, while still
maintaining pin point location accuracy of the surround channel information.
It is recommended by Ken Kreisel that most users set the QUATTRO TFX™ to the TriFX™ mode (jumper in), which
provides for the widest possible surround listening sweet spot with pin point location accuracy.
In the Direct Radiator mode, the QUATTRO TFX™ will radiate sound directly from the drivers on the front of the
speaker with virtually no output from the Dipole (side) drivers.

SPEAKER HOOK-UP
LEFT SURROUND SPEAKER / RIGHT SURROUND SPEAKER
Your QUATTRO TFX™ speakers come in left and right channel versions. Externally, both speakers may appear to
be identical, but in fact it is critical that the correct speaker be used for each channel.

On the back of the QUATTRO TFX™ speaker is a label with an
arrow printed with the nomenclature, "If this Surround Speaker
is mounted: *On Side Wall, Point Arrow Towards Screen. *On
Back Wall, Point Arrow At Nearest Corner." To correctly install
the speakers, make sure that the arrow printed on each speaker
is oriented properly.

To operate the speaker in the Dipole mode, the jumper between the terminals labeled "3" and "4" must be
removed. Do not throw away or lose this jumper. See Figure 2.
IMPORTANT:
The sensitivity of the Quattro TFX™ speaker is slightly higher in the TriFX™ mode, opposed to the Dipole
mode. For critical listening, when switching from one mode to another, you should re-calibrate the
level of the surround channels.

REMOTE SWITCHING OF SURROUND SPEAKER MODES
If you want to be able to switch between theTriFX™ mode and the Dipole mode, you can do so by using a speaker
selector box. The specic instructions will vary according to the particular speaker selector box you are using
and so this section is intended to be general in nature.
First of all make sure that the Positive ( + ) lead from the surround channel amplier or receiver is connected to
the RED ( + ) terminal labeled "1", and the Negative ( - ) lead from the same surround channel on the amplier
or receiver is connected to the BLACK ( - ) terminal labeled "2"
In order to be able to switch between the Dipole mode and the TriFX™ mode connect the Positive (+) lead from
the speaker selector's INPUT to the RED (+) terminal labeled "3". Next connect a separate lead from one of the
Positive (+) OUTPUTS on the speaker selector to terminal "4" (See Figure 4).

PLACEMENT OF THE QUATTRO TFX™ SURROUND SPEAKER
Your QUATTRO TFX™ speakers are designed to be used as surround side and/or surround back channel speakers.
Your KEN KREISEL TFX™ Surround speakers can be installed in a variety of ways.They can be placed on tall stands;
shelves or bookcases; or more permanently mounted using a variety of wall mounts or ceiling mounts.
The TFX's great exibility makes it very forgiving when it comes to room placement that is less than optimum.
The speakers can either be mounted on the side walls or rear walls of a room relative to the listening position.
Please keep in mind that the QUATTRO TFX™ speakers are designed with a 7.5° angled front bae to better focus
the sound radiating from it to the listening position. In order to obtain optimum performance the QUATTRO
TFX™ should be placed or mounted so that the four tweeters are on the bottom with the 5.25"driver on top as
illustrated in Figure 5.
5.1 ROOM SPEAKER PLACEMENT
Generally in a 5.1 system, the QUATTRO TFX™ Surround speakers should be located at an angle of 7.5° on the
side walls of the room, to the immediate Left & Right sides of the listening position. (see Figure 5 a/b & Chart A)
7.1, 9.1 & 11.1 SPEAKER PLACEMENT
In a 7.1, 9.1 or 11.1 system all the QUATTRO TFX™ Surround speakers should be located at an angle of 7.5° above
ear level. The rst pair of surround speakers should be on the side walls of the room to the immediate Left &
Right sides of the listening position. (see Figure 5 a/b & Chart A)
a. SPEAKER POSITION RELATIVE TO SEATING
In a 5.1 System, the speakers should be located on the side walls adjacent to the seating position. If there is one
row of seats, the speakers should be located directly to the left and to the right of this row of seats. See Figure
6. If there are multiple rows of seats, then the speakers should be located directly to the left and right of the
geometric center of the listening area. See Figure 7.
If the speakers cannot be located directly to the sides of the seating area, it is better for them to be towards the
back of the room, behind the listening position, rather than in the front of the room.
b. SPEAKER PLACEMENT RELATIVE TO LISTENERS EARS
Optimally the TFX surround speakers should be located above the primary listener's ears at an angle of 7.5°.
9
c. USE OF MULTIPLE PAIRS OF SURROUNDS in:
5.1, 7.1, 9.1 & 11.1 SYSTEMS
Some listeners prefer multiple pairs of surround speakers. In very large rooms, this may even be necessary.
Multiple surround speakers can make a dramatic improvement by providing a broader and deeper immersive
surround eect eld, silimar to the sound experiences at a public movie theater (See Figure 8). When using two
pairs of TriFX surround speakers, make sure that the speakers on the back wall have their arrows pointed at
the nearest corner
Note:Under idealconditions, the backsurroundspeakersshouldbelocatedwith theidenticalspacing inbetween them
as the front Left and Right speakers See Figure 8. In some listening situations, this may not be possible. Experiment
with various locations within your listening situation to locate the optimum location for the back surround speakers.
