• Adjust the keyboard and hair height so your elbows are near your body,
your forearms are parallel to the floor, and your upper arms hang naturally
at your sides.
• Adjust the keyboard slope so that your wrists are in a natural, straight
position while typing.
• Keep your fingers relaxed. Do not strike the keys with ex essive for e.
• Do not overextend fingers or bend your wrists unnaturally to hit hard-to-
rea h keys. Instead, move your whole arm.

In re ent years, medi al attention on o upational injuries has identified
normal, seemingly harmless a tivities as a potential ause of a wide range of
problems olle tively known as Repetitive Stress Injuries (RSI) or Cumulative
Trauma Disorders (CTD). It is now re ognized that any repetitive motion
may ontribute to these health problems. As a omputer user, you might
also be at risk.
By paying attention to the way you perform your work, use your omputer and
phone, play sports, and work around the house, you an identify the behaviors
that may be putting you at risk. If you experien e pain, swelling, numbness, or
weakness in your wrists or hands (espe ially during sleep), see your physi ian
immediately. These symptoms ould mean that you are developing a repetitive
stress injury that requires prompt medi al attention. For more detailed infor-

Using your Kensington PilotBoard Wireless Desktop
Many fa tors go into reating a omfortable workspa e, in luding proper
pla ement and adjustment of furniture and equipment, lighting, and other
environmental onsiderations.
• Computing is more omfortable and your body is more relaxed with the
keyboard pla ed dire tly in front of you.

Plugging in Wireless Receiver
To connect to a Do t is:
PS2 port Turn off your omputer.
PC only
Lo ate the purple USB/PS2 adapter. Conne t the purple USB/PS2
adapter onto the USB side of the y shaped able on the wireless re eiver.
Insert the purple PS2 plug into the keyboard port on the ba k of
the omputer.
Insert the green PS2 plug into the mouse port on the ba k of
the omputer.
Reboot your omputer.
To connect to a Do t is:
USB port
If you wish to use the USB port you do not need to plug in the PS2
PC or Mac®
plug at all. The USB port works for both wireless mouse and keyboard.
Plug USB onne tor of the wireless re eiver into the USB port on the ba k
of the omputer. If you onne t USB plug for the first time you will see
Windows perform its USB devi e enumerations.
(Note that the green PS2
mouse end of the "y" able will remain unplugged, simply lying on the desktop).
If using Windows® ‘98 you may need to reboot your omputer.
With Windows 2000, ME, XP, and Ma OS, your new keyboard is ready to use.
CAUTION: Never force a connection. Turn t e connector until it aligns correctly wit
t e port on t e computer.
Important: Battery Information
1. Always dispose of batteries properly.
2. Always repla e the batteries in sets, using the same age and brand
of batteries.
3. Always Remove the batteries if you will not be using the devi es for
more than two weeks.
Installing t e Batteries in t e Mouse and Keyboard
Please be sure that the batteries are installed properly in both the PilotBoard
wireless keyboard and wireless mouse. The proper orientation for the batteries
is indi ated in the battery ompartment for ea h devi e.
Average battery life for your PilotBoard wireless mouse is 2–3 months
depending on usage.
The wireless re eiver indi ator light will turn red when low batteries are
dete ted. You may also noti e errati ursor tra king or missed keystrokes.
Repla ing the batteries will solve this issue.

Software Drivers
Depending upon the operating system that you are running and the features that
you would like to use, it may be ne essary for you to install the Kensington soft-
ware drivers; MouseWorks™ for the mouse and KeyboardWorks™ for the keyboard.
We suggest that you try all of the fun tions on your keyboard before installing the
driver to see if you are satisfied with the fun tionality of the keyboard and mouse
or if you need the drivers to a hieve your desired level of fun tionality.
Installing Kensington KeyboardWorks software
Now that you have su essfully onne ted the wireless keyboard, mouse, and
re eiver, please pro eed to the following software installation se tion before using
PilotBoard Wireless Desktop. Please make sure all PilotBoard omponents are
onne ted a ording to user manual instru tion before any software installation.
Windows ‘98 or Mac OS 10.2X
It is required for Windows 98 or Ma OS 10.2x user to install Kensington
KeyboardWorks software before using the PilotBoard wireless keyboard. Please
visit our Web site: ttp://www.kensington.com/ tml/1491. tml to download
the latest version of Kensington KeyboardWorks. Please follow the on-s reen
instru tion to install the software, and refer to the downloaded manual for
instru tions on using the software.
Connecting PilotBoard Wireless Keyboard and Mouse
The wireless range is about 2 meters (6 feet) between the re eiver and the wire-
less devi es. Moving the wireless re eiver is like adjusting the antenna on an FM
radio. Small movements an vastly improve re eption. If you find that you are not
getting the normal range of operation, try adjusting the position of the re eiver.
Your Kensington PilotBoard Wireless Desktop is onfigured to use out of the
box. However in some ases (for example if your mouse is not working properly)
it is ne essary to manually re- onne t the keyboard and mouse to the re eiver.
Conne ting the unique ID odes for your keyboard and mouse to the re eiver
helps prevent interferen e from other wireless devi es. To onne t your devi e
to the re eiver, follow these steps:
1. Press the bla k button on the re eiver. The re eiver LED should flash.
2. Press the button on the bottom of the keyboard. On e the onne tion is
omplete, the re eiver LED should be solid.
3. Repeat for the mouse. Press the button on the bla k button on the re eiver.
The re eiver LED should flash again.
4. Press the onne t button on the bottom of the mouse. The re eiver LED
should be solid.
5. Your PilotBoard Wireless Desktop is now onne ted and ready for use.
6. If you failed to a tivate the wireless onne tion, shut down your omputer
and repeat step 1 through 5.

Using t e Media keys
Ea h of the hrome hot keys on your new PilotBoard has a default fun tion.
(Windows98, ME, 2000, XP, MAC OS10.2.x and higher.)
Media Key Icon Description
User Logs out the urrent user. Windows will display the
user log on s reen. Ma intosh systems will swap to
the next user if there is one.
F Lock Turns on and off the “F” fun tion key se ondary
fun tion (see F-Lo k se tion).
Action 1 Programmable key.
Action 2 Programmable key.
Stop Stops loading of the urrent web page or do ument.
Refres Refreshes the urrent web page or do ument.
Searc Sear hes your omputer for files.
Media Starts the system default media player.
Mute Mute Sound.
Favorites Open the favorites folder (Internet Explorer Only).
Web/Home Starts your default web browser and goes to
your home page. If no home page is spe ified
no a tion is taken.
Mail Starts your email appli ation.
My Computer On Windows systems this will open My Computer.
On Ma systems this will open the root of the
default hard drive.
Windows 2000, ME, XP (Optional)
Kensington PilotBoard wireless keyboard will be fully fun tional without
installing any software under Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows ME.
However if you desire to further onfigure your PilotBoard use Kensington
KeyboardWorks to:
• Provide and on-s reen display of Caps Lo k, Num Lo k and S roll Lo k,
• Customize your mouse and keyboard buttons and fun tions,
• Provide omplete support of the media keys for Windows 98, ME, and 2000.
• Provide omplete support of the keyboard for Ma intosh OS10.2 and higher.

F-Lock Keys
Kensington PilotBoard wireless keyboard in ludes additional fun tions in the
traditional F keys found on the top row of the standard keyboard keys. Pressing
the F-Lo k key will toggle on and off these fun tions. For example, the traditional
fun tion for F5 is refresh page, with F-Lo k turned on the F5 key now performs
the ‘Cut’ a tion. If you install Kensington KeyboardWorks you an use the soft-
ware to disable the F-Lo k key at Windows start.

Save Saves the urrent do ument.
Cut Cuts the sele ted text or graphi from a do ument.
Copy Copies the sele ted text or graphi from a do ument.
Paste Pastes the ontents of the lipboard to the sele ted do ument.
Print Sends the urrent do ument to the printer.
Spell Spell he ks the urrent do ument.
Bold Sets the urrent text to bold.
Underline
Sets the urrent text to underline.
Italic Sets the urrent text to Itali .
Prt sc Takes a pi ture of the urrent s reen and saves it to the lip board. You an
then use the ‘Paste’ button to paste that image to the urrent do ument.
Scroll Used in DOS appli ations.
Pause Used in spe ialized Windows appli ations.
Media Key Icon Description
Calculator Start the al ulator appli ation.
Sleep Puts your system to sleep.
Forward Moves forward to the next song.
Back Moves Ba kward to the previous song.
Play/Pause Pauses and plays your media player.
Fast Rewind Rewinds to the beginning of the urrent song.
Stop Stops the media player.
Fast Forward Fast forward to the end of the urrent song.

3. Wipe tops of keys and the surfa e of the keyboard with Kensington Surfa e
Guardian® Cleaning Swabs, Surfa e Guardian Cleaning Wipes, or a lightly
dampened loth.
CAUTION: Never spray liquid cleaner directly on t e keyboard.
4. Turn on your omputer.
Your Kensington PilotBoard Wireless Desktop requires no other maintenan e.

Using t e Zoom/Scroll w eel
The wheel lo ated on the left-hand side of the keyboard an be used to zoom
in and out (magnify an image) or to s roll up and down (like the wheel on the
mouse). In order to toggle between these 2 fun tions, simply press down and
release the s roll wheel (it li ks like a mouse button).
Common Troubles ooting Steps
1. Shut down and restart the omputer.
2. Un-Plug and re-plug devi e. Make sure you turn off your omputer
if using PS2.
3. Test batteries in another devi e.
4. If possible test the devi e on other omputers.
5. If wireless, adjust the position of the re eiver.
6. Some surfa es may tri k the opti al sensor of a mouse. High gloss and
refle tive surfa es su h as glass and mirrors for example. The ideal surfa e
is a bright white non-refle tive surfa e su h as paper.
Cleaning your Kensington PilotBoard Wireless Desktop
Depending on how you work and the environment in whi h you work,
every keyboard needs to be leaned periodi ally.
To clean t e keyboard:
1. Turn off your omputer.
2. Use the Kensington Dust Guardian
®
Keyboard Brush to whisk away rumbs
and dirt or use the Kensington Dust Blaster
®
ompressed air to blow away
dirt and dust between the keys and in revi es.

of pur hase. You will need it for any warranty servi e.
