DESCRIPTION
The S12 display is designed to be a window into programmable controllers. Working with any 12
to 24 VDC PLC output card, it accepts full parallel or strobed data from the controller. It can
display values such as temperature, setpoints, time, speed or other data within the controller.
This keeps the operator aware of important parameters. The 4 or 6 digit S12 display is mounted in
a 1/8 DIN housing and has .56” red-orange, 7 segment displays. The S12 receives data full
parallel, 4 lines per digit, or may be switch selected to receive all data on 4 binary inputs directed
by individual digit strobe lines. Decimal position, positive or negative logic, two different display
codes as well as input filtering are selectable by switches behind the removable front lens. Any
number of displays can be linked together using the optional ribbon cable and strobe lines.
SPECIFICATIONS
DISPLAY: High efficiency 0.56 inch, 7 segment LED
POWER: 12 VDC -10% to 24VDC +10% , Current: 175 mA maximum
DISPLAY CODES: Two "Display codes", switch selectable:
Hexadecimal (H) code displays 0-9, A-F
B (B) code displays 0-9, -, E, H, L, P, (blank)
INPUT MODE: Data can be entered full parallel (24 lines for 6 digits). Several displays can be
linked together using the optional parallel ribbon cable. By connecting together the 6 digit
strobes of each display, each display can be updated by its separate strobe bank. Change a
dipswitch and you can enter all data over 4 data lines by strobing the 6 individual strobe lines.
The minimum strobe pulse is 1 msec. but the S12 can be set by dip switch to react only to
longer pulses. This prevents data from being entered by noise signals. If the strobe input is
held at "Display Update" voltage level, the display changes as data changes.
NOTE: The display is centered on 4 digit units. Display data and strobes are connected to
terminals for the 4 inside digits.
DECIMAL POINT: Dipswitch selectable in any position or none.
INPUTS (Binary data and strobes):
VOLTAGE: High: Greater than 75% of supply voltage.
Low: Less than 50% of supply voltage.
IMPEDANCE: 4.7K Ohm to ground.
NOTE: INPUT TYPE 4 (last digit of part number) has 4.7K Ohm to +DC supply voltage. Inputs
not connected will be in a "High state". Inputs must be driven low by a "Sinking" driver.
Use only with output modules that sink to ground.
POLARITY: (Dipswitch selectable) Unit accepts either positive or negative true data.
TEMPERATURE: Operating +32 F (0 C) to + 130 F (+54 C).
Storage: -40 F (-40 C) to +200 F (+93 C).
TERMINATIONS: "X”: 32 contact socket screw terminal accepts wire up to #12 AWG. "X" adapter
also has connector for ribbon cable hook-up of multiple displays. (Ribbon cable ordered
separately.)
