Introduction
TheK6101DualEnvelopemodulefromKilpatrickAudioisaEurorackversionofthefamousPHENOLenvelopegenerator.Thiswascreatedby
populardemandandwilldefinitelyaddanewlevelofcreativitytoyourmodularsystem.
Setup
TheK6101DualEnveloperequiresonly+12Vand-12V.Makesureyouuseagoodpowersupplythatisnotoverloaded.Thevoltagesshould
measureascloseto+12Vand-12Vaspossible.
Togetsomethinghappeningrightaway,turnthethirdknobonthetoprowallthewayup.Turnthelefttwoknobsuphalfway.Setthetopgroupof
blackbuttonssothatonlythetoponeison.Thisputsthefirstchannelintooscillatormode.PatchtheOUT1jacktothepitchinputonanoscillator.
Tryturningdownthethirdknobtoquantizetheoutput!
JacksandControls
TheK6101isadualchannelunit.Otherthansharingsomecircuitryandapanel,thetwochannelsfunctioncompletelyindepedentlyofeachother.
Notethatbuttonsareusedtochangemodes.Thesesettingsareautomaticallystoredinnon-volatilememoryandshouldrestoretheprevious
settingwhenpowerisapplied.

GATEIN1/2-Triggertheenvelope-inoscillatormodethisinputcanbeusedtomomentarilytriggertheoscillator
CVIN1/2-Adjusttheenvelopetimeoroscillatorspeed-thissignalwilladdorsubtractfromthecurrentpanelssettings
OUT1/2-Theenvelopeoroscillatorsignaloutput-theoutputvoltagecanrangefrom-5Vto+5V-anLEDabovetheGATEbuttonshows
theoutputlevelasred,(negativevoltage)green(positivevoltage)oroff(nearzerovolts)

Oscillator/EnvelopeModes
YoucanoperatetheK6101channelsintwodifferentenvelopemodesoranoscillatormode.Themodesaredescribedbelow:
OscillatorMode
TopmodeLEDwillbeoninthismode.Inoscillatormodetheoutputgeneratesatrianglewave.Thespeedisvariableusingthefirstknob,andthe
outputlevelisvariedwiththesecondknob.Whenyouturnonoscillatormode,thegatewillbelatchedonautomatically.Bypressingthegate
buttonorinputtingagatesignal,youcanoperatetheoscillatorinmomentarymode.Toresetthelatch,turnoscillatormodeoffandbackonagain.
Attack-ReleaseMode
TopmodeLEDwillbeblinkinginthismode.Inattack-releasemode,theoutputwillrampupatatimesetbythefirstknob(UPTIME)andfadeback
downautomaticallyatatimesetbythesecondknob.(DOWNTIME)Thelengthofthegatehasnoeffectontheenvelopeoutput.
Attack-Hold-ReleaseMode
TopmodeLEDwillbeoffinthismode.Inattack-hold-releasemode,theoutputwillrampupatatimesetbythefirstknob(UPTIME)andstayatthe
maximumvalueaslongasthegatesignalispresent.Whenthegateisreleasedtheoutputwillrampdownwithatimesetbythesecondknob.
(DOWNTIME)
ThirdKnobModes
Thethirdknobcanbeassignedtoaffectthreedifferentparameters.Themiddlemodebuttonselectsthemode.Thesearedescribedbelow:
GateDelayMode
MiddlemodeLEDwillbeoninthismode.Thethirdknobwilladjustthegatedelay.Whenagatesignalisinputorthegatebuttonispressed,a
timeoutmustoccurbeforethegatewilltrigger.Turnthethirdknobtoadjustthedelay.Thedelayonlyaffectsthegateturningon.Whenthegateis
removedtheoutputwillchangeimmediately.
ScalesMode
MiddlemodeLEDwillblinkinginthismode.Thethirdknobwilladjustwhichoneof16pre-programmedscalesandarpeggiosareusedtoquantize
theoutput.Theoutputiscalibratedbydesignbutmightnotbeexactly1V/octave.
StepsMode
MiddlemodeLEDwillbeoffinthismode.Thethirdknobwilladjusttheamountofquantizationorthenumberofstepsintheoutput.Therange
goesfrom2steps(minimumsetting)tofullysmooth.(maximumsetting)
OutputModes
Theoutputcanbepresentedinthreedifferentwaysbasedonthesettingofthethirdmodebutton.Thesemodesaredescribedbelow:
InvertedOutputMode
BottommodeLEDwillbeoninthismode.Inthismodetheoutputwillbeinverted.Insteadofrangingfrom-5Vto+5V,theoutputwillrangefrom

+5Vto-5V.WhentheenvelopeorLFOisnotrunning,theoutputwillsitat+5V.
AbsoluteValueMode
BottommodeLEDwillbeblinkinginthismode.Inthismodetheoutputwillproduceanabsolutevalueandwillonlygofrom0Vto+5V.Byusingthe
Stepsmodeinthelowestsetting,youcancreate+5Vpulsesandgatestodriveothermodules.
NormalMode
BottommodeLEDwillbeoffinthismode.Inthismodetheoutputwillrangefrom-5Vto+5V.WhentheenvelopeorLFOisnotrunning,theoutput
willsitat-5V.
AudioandControlVoltages
KilpatrickAudiostrivestomakeproductswiththemostconvenientanduniversalvoltagestandardspossible.Webelieveintheapproachthat
everythingshouldbeabletopatchintoeverythingandthereforeallourmodulesarebasedaroundthemostuniversal-5Vto+5Vrange.Pulsesand
gatesare0Voff/+5Von.Pitchvoltagesrangefrom-5Vto+5Vandusethestandardized1voltperoctavescaling.Audio,LFOandenvelope
voltagesalsorangefrom-5Vto+5V.Thisgivestheabsolutebestcompatibilitybetweendifferentmoduletypes.Ournon-Eurorackproductsalso
followthissamesystem.
WheneveryouseeanoffsetcontrolononeofourmodulesthatismixedwithaCVinput,thereisaneasywaytopicturehowitworks.Simply
imaginetheoffsetcontrolsettingthevalueoftheparticularfunctionwithnoinputsignal.(ora0Vinputsignal)PuttingaCVsignalintothe
correspondinginputjackwillsimplyaddorsubtractfromthisoffsetsetting.Someinputshaveattenuatorcontrols(wecallthemLEVEL)thatallow
youtoscaletheinputsignal.Thissimplyscalesdowntheinputsignalbeforeitcanaffecttheinternalcircuitry.
