01 –General
Krabat Pirat is a floating aid for use in training, therapy and play in water. The product
allows the child to lie with a view ahead, and gives children and companions a better
opportunity for contact and overview.
The child is safely supervised, has the opportunity to be independent in
the water, and can take a greater part in what is happening around them. The use of the
aid should be decided by the child's physiotherapist.

6
Krabat Pirat comes in two different sizes.
Size 1 is basically suitable for children from 2 to 8 years, and size 2 is suitable for children from about
8 to 15 years.
The product is equipped with positioning equipment consisting of trousers or straps based on 2 sizes.
Extra padding for chest board, headrest and floats can be delivered if needed.
Krabat Pirat is made of materials that do not rust, and can therefore be used in swimming pools,
fresh water and salt water. For hygienic reasons, the use of a bag for storage and shipping is
recommended.
For Krabat Pirat to work optimally, testing with one of our therapists is recommended. This is to
ensure the best possible adaptation before the child uses it. Do not use the aid if individual testing
has not taken place. Also, do not allow other children to use the aid unless individual testing has
taken place.
As the child grows, he may need a different size of Krabat Pirat, or other accessory for the product.
Contact your child's physiotherapist if the product does not work optimally, or if you think
adjustments are necessary.

7
02 –Main Components –Krabat Pirat
Krabat Pirat has the following main components:
01 Frame
02 Floating element
03 Padded chest board
04 Adjustmentscrew to get the right angle for the chest support
05 Trousers or straps to hold the child in position

8
03 –Use
Put Krabat Pirat in the water with the chest board up. Check that trousers or thigh straps are securely
fastened. Then loosen the clip fasteners for trousers or thigh straps. The baby is placed on his
stomach on the chest board, with his head against the front float. The arms are stretched forward
past the head. Then clip on the fasteners for the pants or thigh straps. Easy adjustment of these is
done by pulling the end of the strap that is attached between the pants or thigh strap and the chest
board. Always hold the child firmly before it is securely fastened. After the child has been attached,
the product is ready for use. Never leave the child unattended.
The chest board can be adjusted down so that the user is almost in the water. The angle of the board
is adjusted by screwing on the adjusting screw located under the board. This operation can be
performed at the same time as the child is placed in the product.
04 –Adjustment
As the child grows, the need for size and weight changes. Some adjustments described can
be performed by a companion. If the product no longer works optimally or if major
adjustments are necessary, the child's physiotherapist should be contacted.
If necessary, contact Krabat AS to make the right adjustments.
Only the size of the chest board defines whether the product is size 1 or 2.
The frame is the same for both sizes.
See also descriptive video of Krabat Pirat at www.krabat.no
Individual adjustments

9
The chest board can be adjusted in 2 heights. The setting determines how high or low the
child should be in the water. The height is adjusted by changing the attachment point for the
board on the frame. There are two sets of hole patterns that can be used. Here are 4 screws
that are loosened and fastened again in the desired position. Upper hole pattern gives lower
position and vice versa. (see Fig. 02). This applies to both sizes. The same screws are used
when changing size 1 chest board to size 2 chest board.
The angle can be adjusted from a standing position to a lying position. This is done by
turning the "adjusting screw" to the desired position (see fig. 03).

10
The trousers have two sets of anchors.
(Fig. 04) One outer set and one inner.
Use the set that fits best. In general, the
outer set for large children is used, and
the inner set for small children. This
applies to size 1 and size 2.
Attachment and adjustment of trousers and thigh straps.
The trousers can only be fastened in the
two middle slits on the chest board. (Fig.
05) This applies to size 1 and size 2.
When the child is placed in Krabat Pirat,
you loosen two clips, position the child,
attach two clips, and adjust the length by
pulling the straps. PS: This applies to both
trousers and thigh straps.
The thigh straps have two sets of anchors
(see fig. 07). An outer set and an inner set.
Use the set that fits best. In general, the
outer set of large children is used, and the
inner set of small children. This applies to
size 1 and size 2.

The thigh straps have the same
attachment as the trousers, except
that the thigh straps are mostly
fastened in the outer slots on the
board (see fig. 08). This results in
greater abduction. If necessary, the
inner slots can also be used.

11
05 –Accessories
There are some accessories available, eg back strap, headrest, upholstery cover for all floats and
chest boards, new pillows and bag.
See www.krabat.com for an updated list of accessories.
Most of the accessories are delivered with their own user and installation instructions.
If you need accessories or other custom equipment for Krabat Pirat, contact a Krabat representative

09 –Warnings and definitions
General warnings:
Suffocation/ strangulation:
In normal use, when the user is positioned right and secured, there are no strangulation- or
entrapment hazards. NOTE –since the product is used in the water, the environment will pose a
significant choking hazard. To avoid possible suffocation hazard, never allow a child to use Krabat
Pirat without the supervision of an adult.
Entrapment/ pinching:
When the child is in the product when it is in use, there is little danger of squeezing. To reduce the
risk of crushing events, make sure no one is near moving parts when adjusting the board. To further
prevent the possibility of dangerous incidents related to Krabat Pirat, the product should never be
left unattended.
Danger of tipping:
There is always a real danger that a product may tip, as long as you do not comply with restrictions
set by a therapist with training from Krabat, information that accompanied the product or
information available on Krabat.no. A general rule is that any movement outside the "footprint" of
the product towards the surface can pose a risk of tipping. In the water, there is a greater risk that
this may happen. And the higher the user is placed above the water surface, will also affect the
possibility of tipping. The same applies if additional components are fitted. To prevent the possibility
of such incidents, one should avoid this, as well as never leave the child in the product without
supervision.
Definition of parts used:
The definition of parts used are parts of the product that come into contact with the USER during
normal use / to perform its function.
Definition of parts used are: Floating aid including pillows, head restraints, straps and textiles.
