Kyocera is committed to changing for the environment's well-
being. In July 2006, the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous
Substances) directive was adopted by the European Union to
eliminate the use of six hazardous substances in the
manufacture of equipment. These substances include lead,
cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated
biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) for
electrical and electronic equipment. Kyocera Mita has complied
with the EU directive pertaining to RoHS, and has eliminated
these substances in our products

Enterprise and Workgroup Network Printing
The ability to print critical business documents quickly is a major issue for virtually any corporate environment. In an age when
document creation and distribution has turned electronic, fast, high-speed laser printers have become a commodity that
businesses require.
In addition to high-speed and high productivity, several other critical factors, such as paper handling, finishing and compliance
options can be important. Business customers may have specialized imaging and output requirements that need to be addressed.
ECOSYS®Technology
Kyocera introduced the cartridge-free ECOSYS printer concept as a means of reducing the user's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
while improving the printer's environmental impact. The ECOSYS printer technology represents a fundamental improvement over
conventional laser printers.
Efficiency and productivity in office technology is based around TCO. This recognizes that the purchase price of the printer is only
the first of a series of costs. With cartridge-based page printers, costs can easily exceed more than three times the original
purchase price during the life of the product. Kyocera can claim that its toner costs are 1/3 that of competing brands. Over its
life, one Kyocera ECOSYS printer can save a company thousands of dollars in printing costs.
The savings for a company with 100 printers or more is astounding. Conventional printers use an imaging cartridge that integrates
a photoreceptor drum, developer and toner into a single, disposable unit. When the toner is depleted, the entire cartridge is
disposed and replaced with a new unit.
In contrast, ECOSYS printers feature a durable imaging system based on Kyocera's patented Amorphous Silicon print drum (ASi),
a combination of ceramic and metal. With a surface that is second only to diamond in hardness, Kyocera's durable print drum
guarantees up to 300,000 pages on the FS-C8100DN. Tiny ceramic particles embedded in Kyocera's toner continually polish and
recondition the drum during normal printing. This eliminates the need for replacement of the drum and other cartridge
components, which is typically performed many times over the life of a conventional printer.
The result of ECOSYS - Kyocera's printers and copiers create less waste than any competing products and have the lowest
comparable cost per print.
Environmental consideration has also been taken in the development of the materials used in the external casing of ECOSYS
printers. A bromine-free resin blend of polycarbonate and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) has been employed. Bromine, a
fire resistant agent, is known to release toxic dioxins into the atmosphere when burned at low temperatures.
The benefit of Kyocera’s cartridge-free ECOSYS technology is twofold. Ecologically, ECOSYS can help to eliminate the
environmental burden of used print cartridges worldwide that are now disposed of each year. Economically, by eliminating the
recurring costs associated with replacement print cartridges, ECOSYS printers provide the lowest TCO within the industry. This
incremental savings can recoup the printer's purchase price in a year or less, particularly in network printing environments.

Kyocera’s innovative design of the new FS-C8100DN Network Color Laser Printer, features new improvements for faster
performance, higher productivity and reliability for fast-paced print environments. These new features are part of a strategy to
provide a highly productive and incredibly reliable Monochrome/Color Printer that benefits customer’s intense printing
environments. Marketing these new features to prospective and existing clients will be a key selling strategy you will want to
explore.
Performance and Productivity
When describing performance, it is necessary to expand our idea of what performance and productivity means. For the customer
looking for fast color output, performance and productivity impacts business workflow, and the ability to print the mission critical
documents they need. Customers will be interested in how individual features and functions can improve their in-place business
performance.
Fast letter speeds of 32/32 Monochrome/Color on the FS-C8100DN enables users to output standard letter sized documents
quickly and productively.
Speed is improved 16% over the FS-C8026N, and the CPU speed increased from 600MHz to 800MHz gives the FS-C8100DN 25%
more processing power. Maximum capacity memory on FS-C8100DN increased to 1GB with 256MB standard memory. The new
HD-ME5 option for Document Printing and e-MPS storage comes at an industry competitive 40GB of storage. In addition, the
warm up time on the FS-C8100DN improved from the previous models.
Reliability
Kyocera’s renowned reliability and durability are important factors you should discuss with your prospects when they are
considering fast printing devices for their critical document output. Customers in these types of environments will typically have
time-sensitive materials to print, so printer downtime, and inability to be used for an extended period is a detriment to the business
as a whole.
Kyocera’s long-life components, feature our ASi Drums with a “Best in Class” rating of 300,000 impressions, along with an
incredible Preventive Maintenance Schedule of the same length ensure that our printers are durable for the customer’s
environment. When looking at the competition, this is the most compelling reason our TCO is such a unique story to tell.
HDD Overwrite/Encryption
Data security and document confidentiality are also critical criteria when compliance is a factor. Many companies adhere to
specific compliance statutes such as Sarbanes-Oxley and HIPAA, or print highly confidential material that cannot be
compromised. For these types of environments, an optional Data Security Kit (D) is available, which can overwrite data at the
device level. This is a strong competitive advantage that only a number of manufacturers can offer.

The ability to integrate flawlessly into an administrator’s network is an asset for any business workgroup. Simple installation,
minimal interaction and reduced troubleshooting are all items on any IT department’s wish list.
Kyocera’s OPTIMIZE strategy, targeted at IT, is one of the many factors that customers will find beneficial when they invest in the
new Kyocera FS-C8100DN. This strategy is to provide intuitive, efficient and productive network components, ranging from the
printer’s hardware to software, and utilities that assist in the day-to-day management and solution implementation that an
Information Technology department faces.
Network Setup
The new printer connects quickly and efficiently to the network in any environment. The FS-C8100DN offers a standard 10/100
BaseTX interface that can be controlled directly from the desktop through web-based Kyocera Command Center (KCC). This
useful tool can be accessed from most Web Browsers, including Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, Mac’s Safari or any other
browser currently supported.
The IP Address can be assigned to the device (static or dynamic) from the Device Panel or Kyocera’s Quick Setup Tool. Once
the appropriate IP scheme has been designated, Kyocera Command Center can be accessed and advanced networking
commands and settings can be entered. This Web page can be given a password and secured, so only authorized network
administrators can change settings when the need arises.
What is most important to your customers and IT contacts is that full network control of these network printers is available at the
desktop level, so administrators can focus on the day-to-day tasks of their job, and do not have to devote their time to managing
the printer directly at the device.
From Kyocera Command Center, administrators can also set the IP Filters, turn on/off the IPP (Internet Printing Protocol), and set
communication and management settings at the desktop.
With Kyocera Command Center, the ability to select and designate any network setting provides administrators with a powerful
tool that can simplify their day-to-day tasks.

KM-NET Viewer
KM-NET Viewer (KMNV) is the leading piece of the suite, and is offered either as a standalone Windows®utility or as a web-based
tool, with some slight differences. For the workgroup environment within a company, with the possibility that multiple
administrators may be monitoring device activity, KM-NET Viewer for Web is recommended. The standalone utility will be best
suited for networks, which will require only one or two sessions of the utility active simultaneously.
Information inside KMNV is both precise and pro-active, and available in real-time, so any issues can be addressed as soon as
they arise. This point of attack allows overall productivity to be maintained, which will increase the ROI from a technology factor.
Another facet of KM-NET Viewer is the ability to monitor not only Kyocera devices, but those of other vendors as well. In a perfect
world, all of our customer’s would have nothing but the systems we market and sell, but reality tells us that other devices are on
customer’s networks. In the meantime, customers should be aware of the value that KMNV brings to their business, even with
other brands.
KM-NET Viewer gives administrators the ability to filter devices by model number, speed, group, status and protocol. The ability
to arrange by filter and create groups based on department or floor plan is particularly advantageous, so diagnostics and any
subsequent actions are easier to perform.
KM-NET for Clients
In larger companies and environments, device administration and management may be handled at multiple levels. Each
department or workgroup may be responsible for the daily tasks associated with their output devices. In this case, an all-
encompassing tool such as KM-NET Viewer may be more than management is willing to distribute. Key operators and managers
have an obligation to their own point of need. For this important assignment, Kyocera developed a utility called KM-NET for
Clients.
Unlike KMNV, which can view all output devices on the network, KM-NET for Clients can view up to five Kyocera devices at a
single time. Once installed, the utility can perform a search on the local network segment. Once auto-discovery is accomplished,
up to five devices can populate the utility for administration. A Virtual Front Panel will be accessible, showing machine status,
estimated paper levels and default Page Description Language (PDL) of the interface.As a benefit, KM-NET for Clients gives users
the ability to output any temporary or permanently stored print jobs on the HDD. This data is rasterized at the HDD, so documents

Controller
The Kyocera FS-C8100DN features a new controller designed for high speed processing and output.
The CPU of the controller has a “clock speed” of 800MHz, which is very competitive for color network printers in this segment of
business. Faster clock speeds provide faster document processing time, improving the overall efficiency of the device, and
inevitably, the customer’s workload.
Document Output
When discussing document output, and how it pertains to the overall look and layout of the printed page, certain critical factors
play a major role in the process.
Resolution often refers to the sharpness or clarity of an image, or document. Resolution for printing is explained as “dots per inch”
or dpi. A device capable of higher resolutions will often appear smoother or “fuller” than a printer imaging at a lower resolution
will. Customers will recognize a notable difference from standard 600 x 600 dpi (2-bit) to higher 600 x 600 dpi (4-bit) output.
Page Description Languages (PDLs)
Page Description Languages or PDLs are the embedded command sets that a printer understands for document output. The most
common PDLs in an office environment will be PCL (Printer Control Language) or PostScript. The new FS-C8100DN supports
the following PDLs.
• PRESCRIBE
• PCL 6 (XL, 5c)
• KPDL3 (PS3)
• KCGL (HP-GL/2)
PCL XL is an extended PCL language based on PCL 6 and 5c, which supports advanced printer features and is device dependent.
Documents printed using PCL language is usually general office documents created in popular office programs. Printing
documents with PCL sends the data from the application with the print commands for page layout and output is dependent on the
device.
PostScript is a PDL most commonly used with desktop publishing software, though it can be used for office applications as well.
PostScript is device independent and utilizes a PPD (PostScript Printer Definition) to output pages. The PPD sets the page layout
without any device requirements, so documents can be printed from one device to the next without any issues. Kyocera provides
a standard PostScript emulation called KPDL3 with our devices.
Because of the ability to provide the correct PDL for many environments, many customers may find that the Kyocera FS-C8100DN
offers an alternative to older legacy printers with which they have become accustomed.

Kyocera’s ability to emulate a variety of PDLs provides our products with a significant advantage in any environment that requires
integration with operating systems beyond a typical Windows model. Customers with Macs, Linux systems or running UNIX will

Font Support
Business documents printed on monochrome devices, whether they are MFPs or Printers, will typically be text-intensive, rather
than graphics-intensive. Because this is the case, the appearance of the text, or fonts, is imperative for any output device. The
new FS-C8100DN printer will provide customers the following:

Providing a print driver for every operating system and standard cross-platform compatibility is a strength that these products will

inventory on supplies and parts for a device that is not used to its fullest potential.
For Windows users, the new FS-C8100DN provides our innovative KX Driver for most users. The KX Driver for Windows is unique

all PC users, no matter what version of Windows® is installed, what Kyocera device is used, or what PDL (PCL or KPDL) is

versions of Windows operating systems. Since the driver looks the same from one Kyocera device to the next, tickets and printing
assistance can be drastically reduced, eliminating the burden on IT. For the people actually printing on an everyday basis, using
the KX Driver will be beneficial because it is easy-to-navigated and simple to use. When the time comes to upgrade the OS on
their PC, they have already mastered the driver, so human error and associated print waste can be kept at a minimum.

Windows® 64-bit Drivers
Microsoft’s launch of 64-bit versions of Windows XP and Server 2003 has provided a platform for greater scalability and improved
performance. Positioned as an alternative to UNIX, 64-bit computing is becoming a force in Corporate America. Kyocera has
responded to this change in the market by releasing it’s own Windows 64-bit Drivers for the products, including the new Kyocera
FS-C8100DN. These new 64-bit drivers are available for PCL or PostScript, enabling IT to deploy drivers designed for their OS
of choice to the users on the network.
Certified Uni Drivers
The Certified Uni Drivers for PCL or PostScript are also designed for Windows environments, such as Terminal Services, or other
Server-Based Computing (SBC) platforms like CITRIX MetaFrame or Tarantella.
PPDs for Macintosh
While Apple Macintosh®computers will be a percentage of computing devices you encounter; the ability to provide a precise
printing solution, for the latest Mac OS is a benefit. Users in a corporate environment who utilize Macs may be a strong influencer
for imaging product choices inside a company. Mac users will be especially eager to hear that the new FS-C8100DN offer the
latest PPDs for Mac OS up to and including 10.4.
PPDs for Mac provide users with control over advanced printing functions and features such as duplex and finishing. In addition,
features such as Super Watermark and Booklet Printing are supported.
PPDs for Linux/UNIX
One of the benefits to providing PostScript emulation (KPDL3) as a standard feature on Kyocera’s print controller for the new
models is the ability to integrate in both Linux and UNIX environments. Both the Linux open source and UNIX architectures utilize
a PostScript Printer Definition to enable printing.
For most Linux and UNIX environments, CUPS (Common UNIX Print System) is recommended for printing.
