Changing with the Environment
Kyocera is committed to changing for the environment's well-
being. In July 2006, the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous
Substances) directive was adopted by the European Union to
eliminate the use of six hazardous substances in the
manufacture of equipment. These substances include lead,
cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated
biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) for
electrical and electronic equipment. Kyocera Mita has complied
with the EU directive pertaining to RoHS, and has eliminated
these substances in our products
Kyocera’s objective is to manufacture superior products with a
low Total Cost of Ownership (TCO), and have little or no
impact on the environment. Kyocera’s ECOSYS® technology
provides customers with a printing solution that incorporates life-
long consumables and the lowest cost per print.
The operating costs of traditional cartridge-based page printers
can easily exceed more than three times the original purchase
price during the life of the product. By utilizing Kyocera’s
proprietary ECOSYS®technology, a user can typically recoup a
printer’s purchase price in one year or less.

Enterprise and Workgroup Network Printing
The ability to print critical business documents quickly is a major issue for virtually any corporate environment. In an age when
document creation and distribution has turned electronic, fast, high-speed laser printers have become a commodity that
businesses require.
In addition to high-speed and high productivity, several other critical factors, such as paper handling, finishing and compliance
options can be important. Business customers may have specialized imaging and output requirements that need to be addressed.
ECOSYS®Technology
Kyocera introduced the cartridge-free ECOSYS printer concept as a means of reducing the user's Total Cost of Ownership (TCO)
while improving the printer's environmental impact. The ECOSYS printer technology represents a fundamental improvement over
conventional laser printers.
Efficiency and productivity in office technology is based around TCO. This recognizes that the purchase price of the printer is only
the first of a series of costs. With cartridge-based page printers, costs can easily exceed more than three times the original
purchase price during the life of the product. Kyocera can claim that its toner costs are 1/3 that of competing brands. Over its
life, one Kyocera ECOSYS printer can save a company thousands of dollars in printing costs.
The savings for a company with 100 printers or more is astounding. Conventional printers use an imaging cartridge that integrates
a photoreceptor drum, developer and toner into a single, disposable unit. When the toner is depleted, the entire cartridge is
disposed and replaced with a new unit.
In contrast, ECOSYS printers feature a durable imaging system based on Kyocera's patented Amorphous Silicon print drum (ASi),
a combination of ceramic and metal. With a surface that is second only to diamond in hardness, Kyocera's durable print drum
guarantees up to 300,000 pages on the FS-C8100DN. Tiny ceramic particles embedded in Kyocera's toner continually polish and
recondition the drum during normal printing. This eliminates the need for replacement of the drum and other cartridge
components, which is typically performed many times over the life of a conventional printer.
The result of ECOSYS - Kyocera's printers and copiers create less waste than any competing products and have the lowest
comparable cost per print.
Environmental consideration has also been taken in the development of the materials used in the external casing of ECOSYS
printers. A bromine-free resin blend of polycarbonate and ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) has been employed. Bromine, a
fire resistant agent, is known to release toxic dioxins into the atmosphere when burned at low temperatures.
The benefit of Kyocera’s cartridge-free ECOSYS technology is twofold. Ecologically, ECOSYS can help to eliminate the
environmental burden of used print cartridges worldwide that are now disposed of each year. Economically, by eliminating the
recurring costs associated with replacement print cartridges, ECOSYS printers provide the lowest TCO within the industry. This
incremental savings can recoup the printer's purchase price in a year or less, particularly in network printing environments.
