Introduction / Product Overview
Thank you for choosing L-com’s LC-SW80xG 5/8 Port Desktop Gigabit
Ethernet Switch.
The LC-SW80xG Series of 5/8 Port Desktop Gigabit Ethernet Switches provide non-blocking, wire speed switching
for your 10, 100, and 1000 megabit network clients. Drop this switch in place of your current work group hub or
switch, and you can upgrade your high-requirement workstations to full Gigabit speeds as necessary, while
continuing to service other clients at their current speeds, or build your network from the ground up, with
appropriate link speeds for each user’s requirements. Either way, it’s perfect for graphics projects, multimedia,
and other applications that need to move large files across the network quickly. With the LC-SW805G or
LCSW808G Switches, you can connect your existing 10/100 Ethernet network to a Gigabit server backbone
without any additional equipment. All ports have automatic MDI/MDIX detection, so installation is worry free. Each
port independently and automatically negotiates for best speed and whether to run in half or full-duplex mode.

The LED indicators include Power, Link/Act LED indicators, which are used for monitoring and
troubleshooting.
POWER: This indicator will light solid red when the Switch powers up. If the LED is not lit, please check the
power supply and connection.
10/100M Link/Act: The LED indicates 10/100 Link/Active status. The corresponding LED indicator will light
solid green when connected to a network device. It flashes green when data is being transmitted or received
on the working connection.
1000M Link: LED indicator will light solid green when it's connected at 1000Mbps speed. Will not light if only
connected at 10/100Mbps speed.

Hardware Installation
Before installation
The setup of the Switch can be performed using the following steps: Install the 5 or 8 Port Desktop
Gigabit Ethernet Switch in a fairly cool and dry place. See working environment for the acceptable
operation temperature and humidity ranges.
Install the Switch in a site free from strong electromagnetic source, vibration, dust, and direct sunlight.
Leave at least 4 inches (10cm) of space at the left and right hand side of the Switch for ventilation.
Visually inspect the DC power plug and make sure that it is fully secured to the DC power jack on the back
of the unit.
Make sure to securely plug in AC adaptor to an outlet with sufficient clearance so that the power cord is
not damaged by extreme bending.
Do not stack any device on the Switch.
Installation
Desktop or Shelf Installation
When installing the Switch on a desktop or shelf, make sure that the rubber feet are present. These cushioning
feet can be found on the bottom at each corner of the device. Allow enough ventilation space between the device
and the objects around it.
Troubleshooting
The Power LED is not lit
Check if the DC power cord is properly seated in the DC jack of the unit. Also make sure the AC Adapter is fully
seated in the power outlet you are using. Unplug and plug back in to the outlet or try another power outlet.
The Link LED is not lit
Check the cable connections. Make sure the plugs are fully seated in the jacks.
Make sure the cable distance between the switch and other IEEE802.3 compatible network device does not
exceed 100 meters.
Performance is bad
Make sure the cable between the switch and other IEEE802.3 compatible network device is Category 5e UTP
or better.
Some devices can’t talk to other devices on the network
Check status of the Link LEDs to make sure devices are linked.
Reset the switch if needed.
