The VP600S
represents the
culmination of years of expe-
rience with the prior Labsystems
VP models; with some features
borrowed, some improved, some
added, and some idea’s new
from the ground up. The end re-
sult is the finest sounding, most
powerful, and most musical
sounding bass amplifier we
have ever produced.
Please take the time to read
this manual thoroughly, which
will give you insight and under-
standing of the features and
operation of what can only
be described as a beautiful
bass amplifier.
The VP600S integrated bass
amplifier with valve preampli-
fier/mosfet power output has
been specifically developed for
the discerning bass player that
requires an extremely portable,
ultra high power package utilis-
ing valve pre-amplification with
none of the inherent reliability
problems and high running costs
generally associated with high
power full valve bass amplifica-
tion. LABSYSTEMS have achieved
this goal by combining a valve
preamplifier with our new high
power 600 watt mosfet power
amplifier module to produce a
compact package weighing in at
a mere 10.5 kilo’s that packs the
punch and tonality of a valve am-
plifier more than four times it’s
size and weight, and output
power that is not practically
achievable from a valve output
stage.
The VP600S also features our
new high current power sup-
ply module, and a specially de-
signed toroidal transformer,
which provides massive supply
rail reserves, capable of deliver-
ing incredible dynamic range and
transients well in excess of the
rated output. As with all LABSYS-
TEMS bass amplifiers, substantial
power is delivered even into a 8
ohm load, giving the user excep-
tional power, even when only a
single 8 ohm speaker cabinet is
used.
Two speed DC fan cooling is
also fitted, with the fan run-
ning at low speed when at lower
volume levels to minimise back-
ground noise should you be in a
recording or low noise level envi-
ronment. Upon production of
higher stage levels; the fan will
automatically switch to high
speed, rapidly cooling the output
stage, then return to low speed
automatically.
The VP600S features inbuilt eq.
pre tuning; making it possible
to achieve a great starting sound
very easily and quickly with the
front panel equalisation controls
set to approximately the 12
o’clock position, whilst further fine
tuning or radical changes in tone
are possible by further adjust-
ment of the eq. controls and tone
switches. Furthermore, with our
unique VP valve mid image cir-
cuitry it is possible to achieve a
harmonic warmth and almost
singing quality in your bass sound
that we believe is un available in
any other amplifier on the mar-
ket. This forward effect of the VP
mid image gives the user a sound
that has the ability to cut through
the masking effect of other loud
instruments around them in a live
situation; ensuring a bass sound
that is prominent and full bodied,
with incredible definition and
tone, whilst maintaining excep-
tional dynamic range.
Many of the other bass
amplifiers currently stating
that they have a “valve preamp”
are a large exaggeration on the
real truth, when in fact all they
have is a valve on the input stage
used as a pre buffer to buffer the
level off your guitar up to a suit-
able level to drive the real pre
amplification and equalisation
stage, which in 99 per cent of
these amplifiers quoting “valve
preamp” is generally fully solid
state. With the LABSYSTEMS
VP600S this is definitely not the
case. The equalisation control in
the VP600S is pure valve. Only
the highest quality high accuracy
silver mica, polyester and poly-
carbonate capacitors are used to
achieve a bass sound that is both
transparent and dynamically ex-
citing whilst retaining an un par-
alleled warmth, richness and
tonal quality. *the effects send
and d.i. outputs are buffered by
ic’s, to provide accurate reproduc-
tion of the preamplifier sound
without further un necessary col-
oration.
Every detail of the VP600S has
been meticulously executed,
with only the finest of compo-
nents and materials hand se-
lected. The VP600S is fully hand
built, hand soldered, and sub-
jected to extensive electronic, me-
chanical, and individual listening
tests, to produce an amplifier that
is true and musical, and capable
of withstanding years of rigor-
ous touring.
