Cautions
ELECTRICAL HAZARD: Disconnect power from equipment prior to making
any internal adjustments. Service should only be performed by qualified
personnel.
FRAGILE: Inspect the equipment prior to installation. Do not install the
equipment if damage is apparent. Do not attempt to disassemble this
equipment. If damaged, return to the supplier.
ELECTROSTATIC HAZARD: This is sensitive electronic equipment. Apply
safe ant-static practices when handling this equipment.
CIRCUIT LIMITATIONS: The maximum number of detectors connected to
a single detection zone is limited by the control and indicating equipment,
and may be limited by local regulations.
Introduction
601 smoke/heat detectors connect to 2- wire addressable fire
detection control and indicating equipment. 601 detectors include
an internal sounder and use a wireless transmission path to
connect to a node located on the addressable loop. Up to 32
devices may be connected to a node. An internal battery provides
5 years of normal operation.
These instructions provide trained installation personnel with
details to install and commission 601 smoke/heat detectors for
optimum performance.
Preparation
Before commencing installation, ensure all equipment and tools to
mount and connect the equipment are available, such as drills,
mounting screws, cables and ladders.
Installation
Base
1. At the installation location, draw a 75 mm horizontal line.
2. Remove the detector from its base by rotating it counter-
clockwise.
3. Place the base on the ceiling so that mounting-hole slots
are aligned on the line. In each of keyhole slots, draw a
mark to locate the mounting plugs.
4. Remove the base from the ceiling.
5. Drill two 5 mm holes at the marks and insert the plastic
mounting plugs (supplied).
6. Attach the base to the ceiling with the screws supplied (see
Fig. 1).

7. Align the detector with the base rotate it clockwise to lock it
into place (see Fig. 2).
Note: Fitting the detector to its base internally connects the battery power
to the device.

Activate the Detector
WARNING: Do not install the detector head until the area is
thoroughly cleaned of construction debris, dust, etc.
1. To activate the detector, press and hold the Test/Hush
button for 3 s until the LED flashes rapidly.
2. Once the LED starts flashing, release the Test/Hush button
within 3 s. The alarm will emit a short beep to indicate that
it is activated.
Connect to Wireless Node
Refer to the relevant control and indicating equipment Installation
Manual for the CIE procedure to configure the detector and
connect it to the wireless node.
1. To enter configuration mode, quickly press the Test/Hush
button twice. The red LED will flash to confirm configuration
mode.
2. Set the address and other parameters as described in the
CIE Installation Manual. The detector will beep once to
indicate that configuration was successful.
3. Press the Test/Hush button for 2 s, then release. The red
LED will turn off to confirm exit from configuration mode.
Note: Address and other parameters may be marked on the detector for
future reference.
Commissioning
Smoke Detector
1. Press and hold the Test/Hush button for 3 s.
2. Check the sounder operates (0.5 s on / 0.5 s off) and the
red LED flashes every 0.5 s.
3. Release the Test/Hush button to silence the alarm and
resume normal operation.
WARNING: The smoke detector has a loud alarm signal.
Use hearing protection when testing.
Heat Detector
1. Subject the detector to a flow of warm air at a temperature of
between 65 ˚C and 80 ˚C as follows (this requirement can be
met by some domestic hair dryers).
a. Start the warm airflow and check that temperature is
correct and stable.
b. From a distance of approximately 5 cm, direct the
airflow at the guard protecting the thermistor for up to
30 s. The detector will signal an alarm by continuous
illumination of the LED.
c. Upon alarm, immediately remove the heat source.
2. Reset the detector from the control and indicating equipment.
3. Check that the detector LEDs are off and the control and
indicating returns to the quiescent condition.
Final Conditions
Ensure all the alarm signal services, releasing devices and
extinguisher systems disabled for the commissioning are returned
to their previous condition.
