INTRODUCTION
Leap Electronic has been dedicated to developing and manufacturing
PC Interface Extension Protector for many years and we are the leading
supplier of PC Interface Extension Protector. Leap Electronics' PCFACE
series, which are the most cutting edge and efficient solutions, include the
ISA-BUS, PCI, AGP-BUS and the latest PCI-Express,
PCFACE-PCIE1 Interface Extension Protector is mainly applied to two
functions:
● Extensible:enable to change PCI-Express interface cards without
turning the PC off, avoiding time-consuming of booting Windows OS.
Improving in performance efficiency of PCI-Express interface products
in design, testing, quality control and maintenance.
● Protection:protect the power and signal of PCI-Express BUS, prevent
the motherboard on-line production and the fixed interface card from
being damaged.This feature has a great deal of application on testing,
experimental tool, which is the superior solution of PCI interface
extension and protection.

2. DESCRIPTIONS:
(1) CON2:Slot ×1。
Extensible PCI-Express ×1 slot.
A variety of of testing cards can be overlapped on the slot.
Capable of being overlapped the extended protection slot x1, MPCIE and Express Card, which belong
to consumables and should be replaced by users if necessary.
(2) LED2、LED3、LED4:red indicator DC Power Three sets of DC power SMD indicators:
LED2(+3.3V AUX), LED3(+3.3VS), LED4(+12VS), each indicator identifies the status of DC power on
PCIE1
(3) LED1:green indicator Power Control Source normally remains dim.
When the USB cable is connected, LED1 changes from dim to brightness. The controller of power
supply indicating PCFACE-PCIE1-2.0 can be changed from USB to RS-232 (contact the sales
representative)
(4) S1:Manual Power Switch Turn on/off the power PCFACE-PCIE1.
When the power on: LED2、3、4 are brightened.
When the power off: LED2、3、4 are dark.
(5) CON3:USB(B-TYPE) Connector.
Use USB(B-TYPE) Cable to connect PC and CFACE-PCIE1-2.0, To power on/off PCI-Express by
the power on/off control software instead of pressing S1; and LED1 (green) will be brighter once it's
connected.
(6) CON1:PCI-Express X1 Gold Finger.
Use it to plug in the PCI-Express slot on the motherboard.
(7) JP4:Adjustment of current limit of +3.3V AUX Power.
Default at 2-3 power controlled by PCIE1-2.0.
1-2 power supplied by PC without being through PCIE1-2.0, suitable for sleep mode.
(8) JP3:External Power Switch
Use the external extended power switch instead of S1 switch.
(9) CON5:DC +12VS Output Connector
Use the power source to replace the external auxiliary power, such as USB3.0 Transfer 12V to 5V for
USB3.0 auxiliary power, which is capable of one-time hot swap through the loaded voltage IC.
(10) SP1:Alert Buzzer
Over current and short circuit protection functions: PCFACE-PCIE1 will make a beep and then turn
power off when receiving over current.

1. FEATURES
(1) Extend the PCI-Express slot on PC motherboard to protect PC against the damage causing the
DUT failure or short circuit.
(2) The hot swap function: efficiently enhancing the performance, save the booting time without turning
the PC off when you want to change to next DUT (Notes: turning PCFACE-PCIE1-2.0 power off is
requested.)
(3) Protect over current or short circuit of the external power. The indicators and buzzer will warn users
when the DUT interface card is overloaded.
(4) Three sets of DC indicator:can be easily recognized if the power is broken. Users can install the
external power switch and indicators according to the OS if necessary.
(5) Purchasing a variety of extension PCIE-SLOT of PCI-Express is optional in order to remain the
lifetime.
2. SPECIFICATIONS
(1) The maximum load current of each DC Power Supply on PCIE1:
+12VS / 2.0A(Amp)
+3.3VS / 3A(Amp )
+3.3V AUX / 600mA(Amp)
(2) Support all kinds of PCI-Express ×1 cards: TV card、LANE、USB、1394、SATA...

INSTALLATION AND PROCEDURES
1. FIRST TIME INSTALLATION:
Exchanging the interface card without turning off the PC is outstandingly featured on
PCFACE-PCIE1. Insert the PCI-Express card to the PC and then install the DUT driver
enabling the new DUT to be identified by the PC.
Please follow the installation steps as follows:
※ Screw the extension protection slot onto the PCFACE-PCIE1 as shown on the
above picture (The brackets and screws are enclosed in the package.)
Note: different types of DUT modes should corresponds with the converting boards.
1. Turn off the PC power then open the case.
2. Plug the PCFACE-PCIE1 into the PCI-Express Slot on the M/B.
3. Screw the PCI-E1 onto the PC rack.
Note: Do not plug any external PCI-Express card on the protector slot at this moment.
4. Turn on PC power and finish the PC power up steps. When PC powers up, also the PCFACE-PCIE1 at
"ON" state and LED1~LED4 should be illuminated.
5. Press "S1" on the PCFACE-PCIE1 then power is off. The three DC power indicators should be off.
6. Turn off PC power.
7. Plug the DUT PCI-Express card into the PCFACE-PCIE1 slot and then turn on PC.
8. You can follow the system steps to install the driver when the system searches a new PCI-Express
card which needs to install the driver after powering up.
Note: It is unnecessary to install the PCFACE-PCIE1 driver. If the external DUT needs to be installed
the driver, the installation steps will be same as directly plug on the PC.
9. Go to the System Hardware Manager to ensure the drive installation is completed Then the testing,
experiment and analysis can be executed.
10. Go to “Control Panel” ”System” ”Hardware” ”Hardware Manager” to disable DUT after
done experiment and testing
11. Press "S1" on the PCFACE-PCIE1 and verify the power is off then you can change/remove PCI-
Express testing, experiment cards.
※Notes:
1. If you want to remove the DUT, have to wait for the DUT running out the power
during continually test and change DUT.(The Time period depends on the DUT.)
2. Unexpected damages/failures under the artificial operation may occur if the DUT
is removed without turning off PCFACE-PCIE1 power which is exclusive of our
guarantee.
3. If the external experiment card is overloaded or short circuit, the protection
system of PCFACE-PCIE1 will automatically turn off the power as off LED. After
recovery, press "S1" again then it becomes normal status.

2. OPERATION PROCEDURES: DOS AND WINDOWS
A. DOS:
1. Turn off the PC.
2. Insert the DUT to PCFACE-PCIE1 slot and fix it with brackets.
3. Turn on the PC and power up PCFACE-PCIE1.
Must boot by DOS instead of the DOS supported under Windows.
4. In the CD: root director “PCI-EXPRESS”--> sub-directory”ID DETECTOR FOR DOS”-->
PC2A.EXE and PC2A.PCI.
5. Request PCIE parameter command format of logging: load PC2A/R. PCIE parameter: PC2A/W.
6. Execute the DUT testing or all kind of c experimental circuit testing.
7. After done testing and experiment, press PCIE1 S1 SW to turn off the slot switch; or use DOS
power command to shut off the slot power and change another DUT.
B. Windows:
1. Turn off the PC.
2. Insert the DUT to PCFACE-PCIE1 slot and fix it with brackets.
3. Turn on the PC and power up PCFACE-PCIE1.
4. In the CD: root directory “PCI-EXPRESS”--> subdirectory”ID DETECTOR FOR
WIN”execute the SETUP program. Select Programmer after installing and the following
window will pop up.
5. If you would like to change another same ID PCI card after done testing and experiments,
disabling the experiment cards at System Hardware Manager is requested.
6. Press PCFACE-PCIE1 “S1”to shut off DC power and change another DUT.
Note: Remove/insert DUT without turning off PCFACE-PCIE1 is not allowed.
7. Press “S1”switch to turn on PCFACE-PCIE1 power, and enable the experiment card in
System Hardware Manager.
8. Execute the DUT testing.
9. Repeatedly executing the above steps to efficiently enable the test/experiment of interface cards
without turning the PC.

DOS TESTING PROCEDURES
WINDOWS TEST WARNING:
1. Must disable/remove the device when changing the DUT.
2. After changing the DUT, select“enable”if“disable”was selected; the system will automatically
search if“remove”was selected.
3. When two IDs exist on the testing card, disable the subordinate ID prior to the primary ID; when
enabling, do the other way around. Example: disable the product ID prior to the Bridge ID; enable
the Bridge ID prior to the product ID.

UN-INSTALL, REMOVE AND MAINTENANCE
1. When removing PCFACE-PCIE1 primary card, turning off the PC power is
requested preventing from unexpected damages.
Note: Unexpected damages failure may occur if the DUT is removed without
turning off PCFACE-PCIE1 power which is exclusive of our guarantee under the
artificial operation.
2. Remove the DUT inserted on PCFACE-PCIE1 Slot before moving and avoid the
Slot being damaged.
3. The slot of PCFACE-PCIE16, which is an expendable products and might be
wore out, should be replaced after using a period of time to remain a stable
system.
4. Extension protection slot and converting board are expendable material
which can be replaced, purchased through Leap's distributors or related sales
representative and service department.
