FOREWORD
We wish you a great deal of pleasure and success using
your new Leica Apo-Televid. In order to make best use
of all the opportunities offered by this high performance
spotting scope, we recommend that you read these
instructions first.
WARNING!
As with any optical viewing instrument, avoid looking
directly at bright sources of light when using your
Apo-Televid, to prevent eye injury.

ATTACHING / REMOVING THE EYEPIECE
A Leica Apo-Televid consists of the spotting scope body
and an eyepiece. To attach one of these eyepieces to
the spotting scope, the red mark (1b) on the bayonet
side of the eyepiece must first be aligned opposite the
point (2a) on the spotting scope bayonet (2). In this
position, the eyepiece is then inserted straight and
pressed down. A short turn to the right (clockwise) lets
the eyepiece engage and lock. To remove it, press
the release button (3) on the underside of the spotting
scope body. The eyepiece can then be turned to the left
(anticlockwise) and pulled straight out.

EN
14
USE WITH AND WITHOUT GLASSES
Users who do not wear glasses should turn (see below)
the eyepiece cup to the left (anticlockwise) until it clicks
into place. This position secures the correct distance
between eyepiece and eye and prevents annoying stray
light. The click-stop provides the eye with a steady rest
and thus avoids blurring. When viewing with glasses,
the eyepiece cup should remain screwed in, so that the
entire field of view is visible.
FOCUSING
The dual focusing roller of the Leica Apo-Televid models
is equipped with two different ratios. The rear section
of the focusing roller (in viewing direction, 4b) is used
for rough or presetting; the front, narrower section (4a)
is used for fine adjustment. This ensures fast, precise
focusing at both low and high magnifications.
Note: The rear focusing roller can only be turned
between its two stops. Unlike this, the front roller is
equipped with a friction clutch, allowing it to be turned
beyond its stops. This is a matter of design, it neither
impairs focusing in any way, nor does it cause any
damage.

EN
15
EXTENDABLE LENS HOOD
The built in lens hood (5) should always be pulled out
during viewing. If provides effective protection against
side light (stray light), mechanical damage and soiling of
the front lens by rainwater, fingerprints etc.
TRIPOD MOUNTING
Due the high magnifications achieved with any eyepiece,
the use of a sturdy tripod is often indispensable. For this
reason, the Leica Apo-Televid models are equipped with
an especially large support with a 1/4“ tripod thread
(5c). To increase the possible applications of the models
with angled view, the tripod support can be rotated by
360°, engages at 45° intervals, and can be locked in
any desired position using the clamping screw (5b).

ACCESSORIES
DIGITAL ADAPTER 3
The LEICA Digital Adapter 3 (order no. 42 304) allows
the Leica Apo-Televid 65 and 82 spotting scopes to be
used with many of the Leica digital compact cameras
(and other models with similarly dimensioned lens
barrels). The combination allows high-quality digital
photographs to be taken of even very distant objects.
For instance, the combination with the 25-50x eyepiece
gives a telephoto lens focal length of approx. 1250 to
2500 mm (equivalent to a 50 mm lens with the 35 mm
format).
For details and for further information on the Leica digital
cameras that can be used, please contact your special-
ist Leica dealer or our Leica information service (see
page 23 for the address).
Note:
The Digital Adapter 3 can also be used with some of the
respective eyepieces on the previous Leica Televid-/
Apo-Televid 62 und 77 models.

FILTERS
To protect the front lens – particularly from severe
environmental influences (such as salt water) – it makes
sense to use an E 67 / E 82 screw in filter. Standard,
colorless UVa filters are recommended.

MAINTENANCE / CLEANING
Special maintenance is not necessary. However, to
maintain performance over many years, the optical
system should always be carefully cleaned. Coarse dirt
particles, such as sand, should be removed with a fine
hair brush or blown away. Marks such as fingerprints on
the front lens and eyepiece lenses can be cleaned with
a damp cloth and then wiped off with a soft, clean leather
or dust-free cloth. Special cleaning cloths, as used for
glasses, are not recommended. They are impregnated
with chemicals that can damage optical glass and its
coatings (the glass used to make glasses has a different
composition from the types of glass used in spotting
scopes). Alcohol and other chemical solutions must not
be used to clean the housing. If necessary, wipe with a
soft, dry cloth. For excessive soiling, your Apo-Televid
can be cleaned simply by rinsing it under running water.
Saltwater can be rinsed off in the same way.
Note:
To protect the front lens – particularly from severe
environmental influences (such as salt water) – it makes
sense to use an E 67 / E 82 screw in filter.
