Connecting a Sony EVI-HD1 Camera to LifeSize Room
The LifeSize SDI Adapter includes the following components:
• LifeSize SDI Adapter unit
• 7.5-meter camera cable
• 25-meter VISCA cable (RS-232C cross cable)
• 15-meter SDI coax cable
• Quick reference card—graphical depiction of proper cabling and equipment setup
• Documentation CD
Note: The VISCA port on the back of the LifeSize SDI Adapter is reserved for future use.
Before you connect the Sony EVI-HD1 camera to the LifeSize SDI Adapter, refer to the
product documentation that accompanies the camera for additional information about safety
precautions and installation.

4LifeSize SDI Adapter Installation Guide
To connect the Sony EVI-HD1 camera to LifeSize Room using the LifeSize SDI Adapter,
remove all LifeSize SDI Adapter components from the product packaging, including cables,
and place them in the desired positions in your conference room. Refer to the LifeSize quick
reference card included with your LifeSize SDI Adapter for a visual reference of the proper
setup. The numbers on the quick reference card correspond to the following steps:
1. On the back of the Sony EVI-HD1 camera, set the SYSTEM SELECT switch to 3.
Note: You must set the SYSTEM SELECT switch before connecting the camera to an
AC outlet.
2. Connect one end of the VISCA cable included with the LifeSize SDI Adapter to the
VISCA IN port on the back of the Sony EVI-HD1 camera and the other end to one of the
RS-232 serial ports on the LifeSize codec. The number of the serial port that you select
must correspond to the number of an unused camera port on the LifeSize codec. For
example, if you choose serial port 1, ensure that camera port 1 is available for use
on the LifeSize codec.
Note: The VISCA cable enables you to control the Sony EVI-HD1 camera with the
LifeSize remote control. If the cable is too short, omit this step and use the Sony Remote
Commander to control the camera.
3. Connect one end of the SDI coax cable (with the BNC connectors) to the HD OUT
HD-SDI connector on the back of the Sony EVI-HD1 camera and the other end to the
SDI connector on the LifeSize SDI Adapter.
4. Connect one end of the camera cable supplied with the LifeSize SDI Adapter to the
camera port on the LifeSize SDI Adapter and connect the other end to the camera
port on the LifeSize codec that has the same number as the serial port on the LifeSize
codec that you used in step 2.
5. Connect the Sony EVI-HD1 camera to an AC outlet using the power adaptor and the
power cord supplied with the camera. Refer to the product documentation that
accompanies the camera for instructions.

Troubleshooting
Improperly connected or loose cables are common causes of problems with hardware units.
When investigating a problem, first check all the external controls and cable connections.
Check that connections are correct and secure, and that nothing is obstructing the cables. If
the SDI coax cable becomes unplugged, color bars appear in the display and the blue LED
on the LifeSize SDI Adapter blinks.
When you use the LifeSize remote control to control the Sony EVI-HD1 camera, a blue LED
flashes on the front of the LifeSize SDI Adapter to indicate that the remote control is
functioning properly. If the VISCA cable is properly connected, but the camera is not
responding to commands from the LifeSize remote control, check the following:
• Ensure that the LifeSize remote control contains three AAA batteries that are in good
working condition.
• Ensure that switch 2 (communication baud rate selector) on the BOTTOM switches on
the Sony EVI-HD1 camera is set to OFF. Refer to the product documentation that
accompanies the camera for more information about setting this switch.
