Thank you for purchasing the Accu Reader
by LockTech wafer reading system. This system will
allow you to read the KW16 keyways completely and
accurately without the removal of any locks.
Following a few simple steps it takes only minutes to
read the depths for each cut in each position for a
complete key.
The Accu Reader works on the process of
elimination to decipher the correct depths of the lock.
By checking the deepest cut first you eliminate what
the cuts are not. Therefore it is essential to always
read depth slide #4 first.
Due to the construction of the KW16
ignitions, the process for originating a key differs
slightly from a traditional Accu Reader. The primary
way for originating a key will be from using the Seat
Lock which has all 6 spaces. If you find that the
ignition has been changed out, please refer to KW16
Ignition Section for instructions on making an ignition
key.
The Accu Reader key is designed to be used
for wafer positions 4 6 on one side of the key and
wafer positions 1 3 on the opposite side of the key.
All the positions can be read from one side of the
key, however it is recommended to flip the key over
and use the other side. This allows for reading the
1 3 wafer positions with a fully or almost fully inserted
key, increasing the accuracy.
Please take the time to familiarize yourself
with the tools and verify all pieces are accounted for
from the list of contents below:
Package Contents:
1 Accu Reader key
1 insertion/release slide
1 depth slide #4
1 depth slide #3
1 depth slide #2
1 Tube storage container
1 Tube Cap
USING THE ACCU-READER (SEAT LOCK)
1) Always thoroughly clean the lock with a electronics
safe cleaner to free any potentially stuck wafers.
2) Use the alignment holes through the Accu Reader
key to assist in judging the distance from one wafer
position to the next.
3) Place the insertion/release slide in the slot on the
accu reader key on the #4 6 side. Fully insert the
accu reader key into the SEAT LOCK keyway and
remove the slide. The Accu Reader key is now ready
to read the #6 wafer. (Note: If the Accu-Reader
trapped a afer shortly after inserting it into the
key ay, use the release slide on the opposite
side of the key to release the Accu-Reader. This
happens hen afers fall into the trap slot for the
1-3 side, since these locks have afers only on
one side. Flip the Accu-Reader over and restart
step 2).
4) Always start reading ith the #4 depth slide
tool, then proceed to #3 & #2 in order, IF
NECESSARY. Fully insert the depth slide into the
Accu Reader key. The alignment mark on the depth
slide will line up with the (Y) Yes mark or it will line up
with the (N) No mark.
a) If the #4 depth slide lines up with the Y
then the depth for the #6 wafer is a 4. If the depth
slide lines up with a N, then you must
proceed to the #3 depth slide.
b) If the #3 depth slide lines up with the Y
then the depth for the #6 wafer is a 3. If the depth
slide lines up with a N, then you must
proceed to the #2 depth slide.
c) If the #2 depth slide lines up with the Y
then the depth for the #6 wafer is a 2. If the depth
slide lines up with a N, then the depth for
wafer #6 is a 1.
d) Repeat steps a through c for each wafer
position until you have recorded the depth for wafer
position 6, 5, & 4.
e) Using the insertion/release slide remove
the Accu Reader key from the keyway and flip it over.
Insert the insertion/removal slide on the #1 3 side of
the Accu Reader and fully insert the Accu Reader
key back into the keyway. You are now ready to read
wafer position #3.
f) Repeat steps a through c for each wafer
position until you have recorded the depth for wafer
position 3, 2, & 1.
g) You now have recorded all the positions to
make a complete key.
NOTE: The KW16 Accu Reader will also read the
gas tank lock following the instructions above,

however the gas tank locks typically only have
spaces 2 6.
USING THE ACCU-READER (IGNITION)
(The follo ing is used only if ignition has been
changed out to a different key)
1) Always thoroughly clean the lock with a electronics
safe cleaner to free any potentially stuck wafers.
2) Use the alignment holes through the Accu Reader
key to assist in judging the distance from one wafer
position to the next.
3) The KW16 ignition is different in that 1 & 2 depth
wafers rest at the same height and 3 & 4 depth
wafers rest at the same height. Fortunately, the
ignition lock is very sloppy and easy to originate a
key for even when its been changed out. This
process does use half cuts, but is very easy and very
effective.
Place the insertion/release slide in the slot on the
Accu Reader key on the #3 6 side. Fully insert the
Accu Reader key into the ignition and remove the
slide. The Accu Reader key is now ready to read the
#6 wafer. (Note: If the Accu-Reader trapped a
afer shortly after inserting it into the key ay,
use the release slide on the opposite side of the
key to release the Accu-Reader. This happens
hen afers fall into the trap slot for the 1-3 side,
since these locks have afers only on one side.
Flip the Accu-Reader over and restart step 2).
4) When reading the ignition, only the #3 depth slide
is used. It will line up with the Y) Yes mark or it will
line up with the (N) No mark.
a) If the #3 depth slide lines up with the Y
then record a 3 ½ for the depth of wafer position #6.
If the #3 depth slide lines up with a N, then record a 1
½ for the depth of wafer position #6.
b) Repeat step (a) for all 6 positions in the
ignition. NOTE: It is not necessary to flip the Accu
Reader over and use the 1 3 side while reading the
KW16 ignition.
c) Once you have recorded all six positions
as either 1 ½ or 3 ½ cut these depths to the
corresponding spaces. TIP: Only cut one side of the
blank, test fit your key, after noting any marks, cut the
opposite side of the blank with the new cuts, if
necessary.
TIPS & SUGGESTIONS
1) Always clean the keyway thoroughly before
starting.
2) Use the diagram on the protective case to identify
the YES line and the NO line when reading a lock.
3) Watch the demonstration video online at:
www.locktech.biz
4) While holding the Accu Reader key straight, keep
slight upward pressure on the slide to ensure the tip
is resting along the bottom of the slide track.
