NOISE REJECTION
TheX-60's noise rejection featureisaneffectivetool in cdmbating
noise. Insonarterms, noise isany undesired signal. Itiscaused by
electrical and mechanicalsources suchasbilgepumps, engine
ignition systems and wiring, airbubbles passing
overthefaceofthe
transducer, even vibration fromtheengine. In allcases, noise
pro-
ducesunwanted marksonthe display.
TheX-60hasatwostepniserejection system. Whed theunitis
turnedon, thenoiserejection isnormal. Ifyou havenoise problems
(identified byrandom lines ordotsonthedisplay),trychanging the
noise rejection leveltohigh.
Todothis, first press:the MENU key, thenthe
key adjacent tothe
"More" labelthreetimes. Nowpressthekeyadjacent tothe1Set

the

thechartscreen. Thenoise

echoes scroll across thescreen. If
it isn't, youmayhave aproblem
withelectrical wiring, engine, ortransducer installation. Check

TheX-60has reverse polarity protection. Nodamage

theunit
will notworkuntil youconnect the
wiringproperly.
Minimize electrical noise
by routing thepowercable
awayfromother
ppssible sources ofelectrical interference. Oneofthelargest noise
generators isthe engine's wiring harness. Forbestresults, keep
the
power
andtransducer cables away
fromthe engine wiring. Bilge
pumpsandtheirwiring canalsoradiate noise, sokeepthecables
awayfromthem, ifpossible.
VHFradio antennas and cables radiate RFenergy
athighpower
levels. Itisimportant tokeep the power
andtransducer cables away
fromthem, also.
Ifqntèrferencebegins atslowboatspeeds and getsworseasthe
speadincreases, thentheprobable causeis cavitation. Thisnoiseis
caused
by airbubbles passing overthefaceofthe
transducer-. It's
easytodetermine ifthisnoiseis electrical orcavitation. Stopthe
boat, put
the enginein neutral, and increase theRpm. Ifthe noise
increases, then it's electrical, Ifitdoesn'tshowonthedisplay,
then
theproblem iscavitation. Tosolvethis problem, movethetransducer
out
pftheturbulent waterflow. Adjust
thebracket so smooth water
flowsover
thetransducer's face atallboat speeds.
