1 About LVI
LVI Low Vision International AB was founded in 1978 and is one of the
world's leading manufacturers of equipment for persons with visual
impairments. Development of new products takes place in close
cooperation with users and professional staff within the low vision
rehabilitation industry. LVI is quality-certified in accordance with ISO 9001
and environmentally-certified in accordance with ISO 14001.
The information in this manual has been carefully checked and is
believed to be accurate. However, LVI assumes no responsibility for any
inaccuracies that may be contained in this manual. In no event will LVI be

2 Introduction to MagniLink AIR
Thank you for choosing this camera system. Our aim is for you to be
satisfied with your choice of supplier and vision aid.
MagniLink AIR is a product line of magnifying camera systems designed
for people with visual impairment. The system is available with several
different cameras that can be combined in various ways. MagniLink AIR
Uno with a combined distance and reading camera. MagniLink AIR Duo
with a distance camera and a reading camera. MagniLink AIR Distance is
a distance camera that connects to a computer via a network cable. You
can also connect various LVI reading cameras to the system. The system
offers features such as the ability to pan and tilt the camera,
magnification settings, autofocus, several artificial colours, reading mode,
mirror mode and distance mode settings, amongst other things.
MagniLink AIR can stream video to a PC or a Mac.
The systems complies with all CE certification requirements for medical
devices in accordance with EU regulation 2017/745.

3 Information
3.1 Reuse, installation and maintenance
The device may only be technically overhauled and prepared by an
authorized company. Re-use may only be carried out after appropriate
inspection and cleaning / disinfection.
3.2 Cleaning
Before equipment cleaning and maintenance note:
• Disconnect the device from the power supply before cleaning.
• Use a slightly damp (not wet) cloth and a cleaning / disinfectant
agent intended for monitors and computers.
• Do not allow any liquids to enter the device.
3.3 Safety information
• If the product is moved from the cold into a warm room,
condensation (moisture) can form inside the unit or on the camera
lens. To prevent problems with condensation, the apparatus should
be installed in the room at least 30 minutes prior to usage.
• Please follow the instructions in the document called “Assembly
and Installation”.
• Store cables and power supplies securely.
• LVI recommends having two persons present when mounting the
unit to a ceiling.
• Make sure the system is installed correctly.
• Do not pull or hang on the system after installation.
• Be aware of crushing.
• Do not cover the system.
• Never operate the product if it has been exposed to water or other
liquids. Damaged or wet product can cause electric shocks or fire.
• If the system requires cleaning, pull out all cables and use a slightly
damp (not wet) cloth. Use only water or a cleaning agent that is
intended for monitors and computers.

• Do not rely 100 per cent on the results of an OCR conversion; the
OCR engine can misinterpret the text. This is particularly important
to bear in mind when processing sensitive information such as a
medical prescription.
• Make no further adjustments, even if the product does not function
normally after following the functional descriptions. Pull out the
power cable and contact service staff or the product distributor.
Only use spare parts that are specified by LVI.
If in doubt, contact your supplier.
Warning
The product is supplied packed in a plastic bag. To avoid risk of
suffocation, keep the bag out of the reach of children and infants.

4 Unpacking
The system is supplied in a box with the following contents:
• Camera system
• User Guide
• USB memory stick with software
Make sure there is no external damage before opening the box. In the
event of damage, contact the courier to report the damage. Open the
box, take out the MagniLink AIR and remove the packaging parts. For
further information, please see the chapter on Installation.
4.1 Packaging
The packaging consists of the following packaging material (LVI
recommends that the packaging be kept in case you have to return the
system or you need to move it):
• Packing material (EPEL E)
• Box (corrugated cardboard)
• Polyethylene (LDPE4)
For sorting and collection of packaging material, please call the
packaging collection customer service department for information on the
rules that apply in your municipality.
Note that the product and its accessories must be recycled as electronic
waste. A worn-out battery is recycled as electronic waste.

5 Accessories
The controller (MLAIR-A013) can be used to control the system if you
don’t want to control the system from the computer.
The control unit (MLAIR-A012) is used if the system is not directly
connected to a computer. The control unit contains pre-installed
software and cameras are connected to the control box, which in turn is
connected to a screen. Includes a hand held control

MagniLink Framegrabber (MLAIR-A004). Used to transfer images from an
external video source (e.i. a projector/smartboard) to the software.
Roof bracket (MLAIR-A014). Used if the ceiling is not using 60x60cm
panels.
Text To Speech for PC (TTS-PC) or Mac (TTS-MAC).

The distance camera is connected using the included network cable. The
distance camera is available with various brackets.

7 Control unit
Used to control the system if it is not directly connected to a PC. Comes
with pre-installed software.
The control unit can be supplied with PC compatibility as an added extra.
It can be controlled using a hand held controller, a mouse or keyboard.
The control unit along with the software offers the possibility of split
function.
7.1 Connection
On/Off button.
Turns the system on and off.
Power supply
The power adaptor plugs in here.
USB 3.1
Used to connect the control box, mouse, keyboard or a USB
camera.
Sound
Connects your headphones.
HDMI
Used to connect an external monitor.
Ethernet
Used to connect a distance camera.
Thunderbolt 3
Like USB 3.1, but also used to connect a monitor.

8 MagniLink PCViewer
MagniLink PCViewer is a computer programme that displays images from
a MagniLink camera system. The programme can control the camera
properties, such as magnification level, artificial colours and brightness. If
the system supports OCR, the OCR can process a text and read it aloud
through speech synthesis (text to speech). The programme can also share
the computer screen with ZoomText or SuperNova software.
8.1 Minimum system requirements
• Microsoft Windows 7.
• Network adapter: Ethernet 10 Mbps.
• i3 processor, 1 GB RAM (32 bit) 2 GB RAM (64 bit).
8.2 Recommended system requirements
• Microsoft Windows 10.
• Network adapter: Ethernet 100 Mbps.
• i5 or i7 processor, 4 GB RAM, external graphics card with at least
512 MB built-in memory.
LVI has tested the software on several computers without any issues, but
that is no guarantee that the system will function on every computer that
complies with the specifications. LVI recommends testing the software
with the computer that the system will be used on, in order to ensure
compatibility. Higher computer performance enables higher camera
performance.

8.3 Installation of software
Insert the USB stick containing the software into one of the computer
USB ports. Initiate the installation by clicking on "Setup" in the
MagniLink PCViewer folder.
When the installation program starts, follow the instructions on the
screen to complete software installation, or see below for a more
detailed description.
Select “Next” in the dialogue box “Welcome to the InstallShield
Wizard for MagniLink PCViewer”.
NOTE
Installation requires administrator privileges on the computer in
question and is performed on the user account currently in use.

Read the text in the “License Agreement” and approve by selecting “I
accept the terms of the license agreement” and click on “Next” to
start the installation.
Tick the box for Wi-Fi. If your camera has OCR installed, tick the box of
the language(s) included in your license. Do not tick a language if you do
not have OCR installed. Click “Next” to continue the installation.

Select “Install” in the dialogue box “Ready to Install the Program”.
Select “Finish” in the dialogue box “InstallShield Wizard Complete”.

8.4 Licensing
The camera system that is used with the software can be licensed with
different functions.
• It is possible to license the system with or without OCR
functionality.
• It is possible to license the system so that the software does not
communicate with the internet.
• It is possible via the licence to remove the functions video
recording and take picture.
• It is possible to license the system with voices in the following
languages:
English (US), English (UK), German, French, Finnish, Italian, Dutch
(BE), Dutch (NL), Swedish, Danish, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese,
Norwegian, English (AU), Russian, French (CA), Arabic, Hebrew,
Hungarian, Rumanian, Bulgarian, Czech, Slovakian, Croatian,
Turkish, Greek.
8.4.1 Computer license
By licensing the software to a computer, you can use the software without
a connected camera. To license the software you will need an activation
key. Activation keys can purchased from your LVI distributor.
To activate a computer license, launch the application without a camera
connected. The following dialogue will be displayed.
Click on “activate”. If the application establishes contact with the
activation server, the following dialogue box will be displayed.

Enter your e-mail address and your activation key, then click on
“activate”. You can now start using the software without a camera.
The following dialogue box is displayed if there is no internet connection
or the application is unable to connect to the activation server. Follow the
instructions and contact your LVI distributor in order to activate the
applications.
