STORE IDLE
TOOLS. When not in use, tools should be stored in dry, and high
or locked-up place
- out of reach of children.
DON'T FORCETOOL.
It will dothejob better and safer at the ratefor which
it was intended.
USE RIGHT TOOL. Don't force small tool or attachment to do the job of a
heavy-dutytool. Don't usetoolfor purpose not intended; for example, don't
use circular saw for cutting tree limbs or logs.
DRESSPROPERLY. Don't wear looseclothing orjewelry. They can be caught
in moving parts. Rubber gloves and non-skid footwear are recommended
when working outdoors. Wear protective hair coveringtocontain long hair.
USE SAFETY GLASSES. Also use face
or dust mask if cutting operation is
dusty.
DON'T ABUSE CORD. Never carrytool by cordor yank
it todisconnect from
receptacle. Keep cord from heat, oil, and sharp edges.
SECURE WORK. Use clamps or a vise to hold work. It's safer than using
your hand and
it frees both hands to operate tool.
DON'T OVERREACH. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
MAINTAIN TOOLS WITH CARE. Keep tools sharp and clean for better and
safer performance. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing acces-
sories. Inspecttoolcords periodically and
if damaged, haverepairedby autho-
rized service facility. Inspect extension cords periodically and replace
if
damaged. Keep handles dry, clean, and free from oil and grease.

in use, beforeservicing, and when chang-
ing accessories, such as blades, bits, cutters.

14. REMOVE ADJUSTING KEYS AND WRENCHES. Form habit of checking to
see that keysand adjustingwrenches are removed from tool before turning
it on.
15. AVOID UNINTENTIONALSTARTING. Don't carry tool withfinger onswitch.

16. EXTENSION CORDS. Make sure your extension cord is in good condition.
When using an extension cord, be sure to use one heavy enough to carry
the current your product will draw. An undersized cord
will cause a drop
inline voltage resultingin
loss of power and overheating. Table 1 showsthe
correct size touse depending oncord lengthand nameplateampere rating.
If
in doubt, use the next heavier gage. The smaller the gage number, the
heavier the cord.

17. OUTDOOR USE EXTENSIONCORDS. When tool is usedoutdoors, use only
extension cords intended for use outdoors and
so marked.
18. STAY ALERT. Watch what you are doing, use common sense. Don't operate
tool when you are tired.
19. CHECK DAMAGED PARTS. Before further use of the tool, a guard or other
part that is damaged should be carefully checked to determine that
it will
operate properly and perform its intended function. Check for alignment of
moving parts, bindingof moving parts, breakageof parts, mounting, and any
other conditions that may affect its operation. A guard or other part that
is damaged should be properly repaired or replaced by an authorized serv-
ice center unless otherwise indicatedelsewhere
in this instructionmanual.
Have defective switches replaced by authorized service center. Don't use
tool if switch does not turn
it on and off.
20. GUARDAGAINST ELECTRIC SHOCK. Prevent body contact with grounded
surfaces. For example; pipes, radiators, ranges, refrigerator enclosures.
21. REPLACEMENT PARTS. When servicing, useonly identicalreplacementparts.
22. POLARIZEDPLUGS. To reduce the risk of electric shock, thisequipment has
a polarized plug (one blade is wider than the other). This plug will
fit in a
polarized outlet only one way.
If the plug does not fit fully in the outlet,
reversethe plug. If
it stilldoes not fit, contact aqualified electrician toinstall
the proper outlet. Do not change the plug
in any way.

Installingor removing battery cartridge
0 Always switch off the tool before insertion or removal of the battery cartridge
*To remove the battery cartridge, pull out
the
set plate on the tool and grasp both
sides of the cartridgewhile withdrawing
it
from the tool.
To insert the battery cartridge, align the
tongue on the battery cartridge with the
groove in the housing and slip
it into
place. Snap the
set plate back into place.
Be sure to close the
set plate fully before
usingthe tool.
Ifthe cartridge does not slide in easily,
it is not beinginsertedcorrectly.

0 Do not use force when insertingthe battery cartridge.
Charging
Plug the fast charger into your power
source. Insert the battery cartridge
so that
the plus and minus terminals on the bat-
tery cartridge are on the same sides
as their
respective markings on the fast charger.
Insert the cartridge fully into the port
so
that it rests on the charger portfloor.
Press the start button (red). The charging
light will come on and chargingwill begin.

If the charginglight does not come on, press the reset button (yellow)first, then the start
button (red). If the charging light goes out within
10 seconds even after pressing the
reset button and start button
a couple of times, the battery cartridge is dead. (CAU-
TION:
Wait for more than 5 seconds after the charging light goes out to press the reset
button again.) Replace
it with a new one. When the charginglight goes out after about
one hour, you may removethe fully charged battery cartridge.
After charging, unplugthe charger from the power source.
CAUTION
:
Your new battery cartridge is not charged. You will need tocharge it before use.
*Do not keep the button pressed in with tape, etc. or the circuit will not function pro-
perly.
Also, a malfunction of the charger may result possibly causing overheating, etc.
If you try to charge a cartridge from a just-operated tool, sometimesthe charginglight
will not come on. If this occurs, let the cartridge cool off for
a while. Then re-insert it
and try to charge
it once more.
When you charge a new battery cartridge or a battery cartridgewhich has not been used
for
a long period, it may not accept a full charge. This is a normal condition and does
not indicate
a problem. You can recharge the battery cartridge fully after discharging
it almost completely a couple of times.
If you wish tocharge two battery cartridges, allow 15 minutes between chargings on the
fast charger.

Installing or removing driver bit or drill bit
CAUTION
:
Always be sure that the tool is switched off and the battery cartridge is removed before
installing or removing the bit.
Hold the ring and turn the
sleeve counter-
clockwise to open the chuck jaws. Place
the bit in the chuck
as far as it will go.
Hold the ring firmly and turn the sleeve
clockwise to tighten the chuck.
To remove the bit, hold the ring and turn
the sleeve counterclockwise.
Switchaction
Tool speed
is increased by increasing pres-
sure on the trigger.
To start the tool, simply
pull the trigger.
Release the trigger tostop.

CAUTION :
Before inserting the battery cartridge into the tool, always check to see that the switch
trigger actuates properly and returns tothe
"OFF" position when released.
Reversing switchaction
This tool has
a reversing switch to change
the direction of rotation. Slide the revers-
ing switch to the left for clockwise rota-
tionor to the right for counterclockwise.
CAUTION
:
0 Always check the direction of rotation before operation.
0 Move the reversing switch only after the tool comes to a complete stop. Changing the
directionof rotationbeforethe tool stops may damage the tool.

Overload protector
The overload protector automatically cuts out to break the circuit whenever heavy work
is prolonged. Wait 20 - 30 seconds before resuming operation.
CAUTION :
Always withdraw the tool from the workpiece before resuming operation. If the tool
cannot be withdrawn, hold the tool firmly when turning on the tool, to overcome
a
strong reaction.
Adjusting fasteningtorque
The fastening torque can be adjustedinsix
stages by turning the adjusting ring so that
the pointer on the adjusting ring points to
a number on the tool body. The fastening
torque
is minimumwhen the pointer points
to the number
1 and maximum when it
points to the marking. The clutch will
slip
at varying torque levels when the
pointer
is set at the numbers 1 to 5. The
clutch
is designed not to slip at the -8-
marking.

Before actual operation, drive a trial screw into your material or a piece of duplicate
material to determine which torque
level is required for a particular application.
NOTE
:
The adjusting ring cannot be locked with the pointer positioned half-way between the
numbers.
Screwdrivingoperation
Place the point of the driver bit in the
screw head and apply pressure to the tool.
Start the tool slowly and then increase the
speed gradually.
Release the trigger as soon
as the clutch cuts in.

NOTE :
0 Make sure that the driver bit is inserted straight in the screw head, or the screw and/or
bit may be damaged.
0 When driving wood screws, predrill pilot
holes to make driving easier and to pre-
vent splitting of the workpiece.
See the
chart.
Drillingoperation
First, turn the adjusting ring
so that the pointer onthe adjusting ring points to the -8.-
marking. Then proceed as follows.
0 Drilling inwood
When drilling in wood, best results are obtained with wood drills equippedwith
a guide
screw. The guide screw makes drilling easier by pullingthe bit intothe workpiece.
0 Drilling in metal
To prevent the bit from slippingwhen starting
a hole, make an indentation with a center-
punch and hammer
at the point to be drilled place the point of the bit inthe indenta-
tion and start drilling.
Use
a cutting lubricant when drilling metals. The exceptions are iron and brass which
should be drilled dry.
CAUTION
:
*Pressing excessively on the tool will not speed up the drilling. In fact, this excessive
pressure will only serve to damage the tip of your bit, decrease the tool performance
and shorten the service life of the tool.
*There
is a tremendous force exerted on the tool/bit at the time of hole breakthrough.
Hold the tool firmly and exert care when the bit begins to break through the workpiece.
0 A stuck bit can be removed simply by settingthe reversing switch to reverse rotation in
orderto back out. However, the tool may back out abruptly if you do not hold
it firmly.
0 Always secure small workpieces in a vise or similar hold-down device.
