MODULE
The
Marti
CA
-4

compressor/limiter
unit
operates
on
the
variable
audio
attenuator
princip
l
e.
A
full
wave
audio
detector
provides
a
vo
ltag
e
proportional
to
audio
peak
level
which
controls
a
voltage
va
ria
ble
resistor
(VVR)
average
level
attenuator.
This
VVR
de-
vice
has
a
very
large
dynamic
operating
range,
adds
no
audio
dis
-
tortion
but
has
a
comparatively
slow
attack
time.
For
instantaneous
co
ntr
ol
of
short
rise
ti
me
audio
waveforms,
the
control
voltage
is
differentiated
and
applied
to
the
gate
of
a
field
effect
transistor.
This
d
ev
ice
is
connected
in
paralle
l
with
the
VVR,
and
serves
as
an
ex
t r
emely
fast
attenuator
,
uper
a
ti
ng
only
on
short
rise
time
waveforms,
thus
c
omplimenting
the
sl
ower
VVR
device.
The
re-
sult
is
a
compress
or
with
a
40
db
dynamic
.range
and
a
limiter
with
microseconds
attack
time.
