Introduction
TheDA12isadualchanneldistributionamplifierforSMPTE,EBU,
IRIGandothertimecodes(TC).InputsareprovidedthroughBNC
connections.Theunitprovidesinputsforsingle‐ended,balanced
andunbalancedtimecode.
Installation
SimplyinstalltheDA12intoyourrackmountsetup.Theunituses
ACpower.ConnectyourinputsandoutputsusingBNCcables.
InitialOperation
Setupforinitialoperationconsistsof:
•Supplyingasourceoftimecode
•Connectingapowersource
•Adjustingthegainofindividualchannels
•Configuringtheoutputswitches(locatedonback)
•Connectingtooneormoretimecodereaderdevices
SUPPLYINGATIMECODESOURCE
Asourceoftimecodeisrequired.Thismaybeintheformof
electronicpulse,radiofrequency,DCIRIGTimeCodeorAMIRIG
TimeCode(TC).TCisanaudiosignalsimilartothatofamodem.It
canberoutedoverunshieldedwire,likeflattelephonecable,or
overaRG‐58/59coaxialcable.
ConnecttheTimeCodesourcetotheinputBNCconnectororthe
appropriatepinsontherearoftheDA12.Theinputhasan
impedanceof50to600ohms.

CONNECTINGAPOWERSOURCE
ApplypowerbyinsertingtheACcordintoanappropriateAC
powersource.TheinputrangeoftheDA12is0to25Vp‐pfor
SMPTEandIRIGTC.
ADJUSTINGTHEGAINOFINDIVIDUALCHANNELS
TheoutputrangeoftheDA12isadjustablefrom0to12dBintoa
600ohmload.Eachoutputchannelbankisadjustableviathegain
controlsonthebackoftheunit.
Thetwogainadjustmentsscrews(inblueandinsetontheback
panel)modifythegainoftheirrespectivesetsofoutputs.
Turningthegainadjustmentclockwiseincreasesthegainonthe
appropriatechannel.Turningitcounterclockwisedecreasesthe
gain.Theunitsareshippedforunitygainwith2VP‐PSMPTETC.
CONFIGURINGTHEOUTPUTSWITCHES
TherearethreeswitchesonthebackoftheDA12andtwogain
adjustmentswhichrequireaPhillipsheadscrewdriver.
TheleftswitchwillprovideaDCorACoutputtotheleftsetofsix
outputs(OutputA,1‐6).
Themiddleswitchwillenablealltwelveoutputstobelinkedtoa
singleinput,INPUTA,orenableINPUTBasOUTPUTB(7‐12)
source.
TherightswitchwillprovideaDCorACoutputtotherightsetof
sixoutputs.

attempttoopenthecase.

Problems‐Troubleshooting
AllDA12unitsarecheckedforproperoperationbeforeshipment
andunlessphysicaldamageisfound,theunitisprobably
functional.Ifyouhaveproblemsingettingtheunittowork:
•Doublecheckallinputandoutputconnections
•MakesurethatpowerisappliedandthefrontpanelLEDison
•verifythatavalidTCisconnected
•verifythattheTC(TimeCode)inputlevelisadequate
•verifythattheTCoutputleveliscorrectforthedevice
beingfed
Iftheunitdoesnotworkevenaftertheaboveprecautionshave
beennoted,pleasecontactthefactory(page10).

MasterclockwarrantsthisDA12againstdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanship
foraperiodofoneyearfromthedateofsale.IfMasterclockreceivesnoticeof
suchdefectsduringthewarrantyperiod,Masterclockwill,atitsoption,either
repairorreplaceproductsthatprovetobedefective.
ShouldMasterclockbeunabletorepairorreplacetheproductwithina
reasonableamountoftime,thecustomer'salternateremedyshallbearefund
ofthepurchasepriceuponreturnoftheproducttoMasterclock.Thiswarranty
givesthecustomerspecificlegalrights.Otherrights,whichvaryfromstateto
stateorprovincetoprovince,maybeavailable.
EXCLUSIONS
Theabovewarrantyshallnotapplytodefectsresultingfromimproperor
inadequatemaintenancebythecustomer,customer‐suppliedsoftwareor
