INTrOduCTION
The MAX-IVY is a portable audio, photo & video player, voice recorder and USB mass storage
device in one unit.

NOTE fOr WiNdOWs ME/2000/XP usErs:
Installation of the player software is required only if you wish to upgrade the firmware of the player.

Windows Service Pack 3 must be installed before installing player software.
—Supports Windows 98SE after installation of the driver from the bundled CD-ROM.
—Supports Mac OS X (version 10.2.6 or above) without extra driver installation.

CONNECTIONs
Connect Earphones
Firmly plug the earphones into the appropriate jack on the bottom part of the player.
PlEasE NOTE! Unplug earphones before connecting your player to your PC via USB cable.
Connect USB
1. Position the PC in a way that its USB ports can be easily accessed. (Note: The USB port(s) on
your PC may be found on the front panel instead of the back panel.)
2. Use the provided USB cable to connect the USB ports of both, player and PC.
3. The PC system detects New Hardware and starts to install the driver automatically, if needed.
Wait for the system to finish the installation.
4. When it has finished, double-click on “My Computer” on the desktop.
5. A new MTP Player will appear in the “My Computer” window when using Windows XP or
above, in case Media®Player 10 is installed. Using other operating systems, a new
Removable Disk will appear in the “My Computer” window. The new disk icon stands for the
player’s built-in memory. Now you can download your files to the player.
HOW TO cHEck THE usB drivEr WiNdOWs 98 sE/ME: Control Panel > System > Device Manager
ChargINg ThE baTTEry
—Use the USB cable to connect MAX-IVY to a PC, or the power adaptor to connect it to the mains supply.
—Wait until a battery icon motion appears in the top right corner of the player‘s display.
—The built-in Li-Ion battery is now charging.
—The battery is fully charged when battery icon motion stops, and you see a full icon.
—The first battery charge will take about 4 hours. For further recharges 2 to 3 hours will do.
PlEasE NOTE:
—Make sure that the battery is fully charged before first use.
—Please recharge the battery when there is a message that battery voltage is low and the player shuts down.
—Please fully charge the battery every 2 - 3 months when the player is not used for a long time. Otherwise, the battery
voltage may be too low to turn the player on.

rubbEr CasE
The rubber case serves for player protection and as carrying equipment.
Attach carrying strap
There are two holes in the rubber case, provided to attach the carrying strap.
—First thread the thin loop of the carrying strap from the outside through the top hole.
—Thread the loop from the inside through the second hole.
—Thread the thicker end of the carrying strap through the thin loop and pull the whole
strap tight.
—Now attach the rubber case to the player.
Attach rubber case
—Unplug all cables.
—Put the rubber case edges first over the narrow bottom edge of your MAX-IVY.
—Carefully slide the whole rubber case around all the player’s edges until it fits in properly.
PlEasE NOTE:
Take care that the holes for ON OFF switch, USB port and earphone jack are in position.
Attach to waistbelt
—First attach the rubber case to the player.
—Thread the end of the waistbelt through the broad, flat loop on the rubber case. Take care that
the front side of the player faces outwards.
—Close the waistbelt.

aTTENTiON!
When transferring data to the player, please pay attention that 5 Megabytes of memory per 1000 music files must be reserved for
player system files. If not provided, the player may not be turned on properly.
—Slide and hold the power switch into direction of the ON OFF symbol on the back of the player
until the screen motion disappears, to make sure that the player is turned off.
—Disconnect the earphones.
—Connect player and computer via USB cable. The screen displays “USB Connected“, indicating
that the player is in USB mode. The player will be automatically recognized by the computer.
—Transfer music, image or video files to or from the internal Flash RAM.
—Disconnect the player from your computer (see also “Disconnect the Player“), the files can now
be played by the player and all data stored in the unit can be transferred to another computer.
PlEasE NOTE:
For users of Windows XP and Windows Media® Player 10 : Store audio/photo/video files in the “Media“ folder.
There are different ways to transfer files to the player:
Copying files with Windows Explorer
After being connected with the PC via USB cable, the player will be recognized as a Removable
Disk under „My Computer“. Use the Copy, Paste, Delete etc. commands of your operating system
such as Windows or Mac OS.
—Select the files you want to load to the player by clicking the file/folder icon.
—Right-click the file(s)/folder(s). A menu appears. Click Copy.
—Double-click the Removable Disk to open the drive. The Removable Disk window appears.
—Right-click on the Removable Disk window and click Paste in the menu to copy the files/
folders into the player memory.
PlEasE NOTE: Copy music files, photo files and video files into the “Media“ folder, and data into the “Data“ folder.
HiNTs fOr filE sOrTiNg:
The audio/photo/video files in a folder are played in alphabetical order. — To maintain the alphabetical order, whole music albums should
be copied as a folder, not as single tracks. — To create a desired sequence, precede each file name before copying with, for example, track
numbers „01” - „99” or „1 01”, „1 02” ... „3 01”. Then the audio tracks will be played in numerical order. Please notice that the internal
sorting algorithm follows the first eight characters of a file name. So better don‘t number the files at the end of a long file name.

Loading DRM protected WMA audio tracks with Windows Media®Player 10
—Windows Media®Player 10 recognizes the player as an MTP Player.
—Start the Windows Media®Player, and select the music library to manage your songs.
—In Windows Media®Player 10 choose the function “Sync”.
—For further advice please refer to the Windows Media®Player FAQs regarding Microsoft®
Windows Media®DRM (Digital Rights Management).
Copying audio files (also DRM protected ones) with the MAGIX mp3 maker SE
You can also use the bundled MAGIX mp3 maker SE music software to copy songs to your player
and, additionally, edit your contents. For detailed information, please refer to the MAGIX CD-ROM.
cauTiON:
Disconnecting the player from the PC during data transfer will damage the player! Before disconnecting the player, please make
sure that the transfer is complete.
dIsCONNECT ThE PlayEr
After complete file transmission, do the following in order to disconnect the player from the PC.
(If you arbitrarily unplug the USB cable, the file transfer might fail in some systems.)
1. Double click the green arrow on the system tray on the bottom right corner of the Windows
screen.
2. After selecting the USB device, click the [Stop] button.
3. When you see the [Safely Remove Hardware] window, click [OK] and then unplug the USB cable.
PlEasE NOTE:
If you are using Windows Media®Player 10 to copy files to your player‘s memory, wait until your data transfer has been finished
and the screen does not display “writing“ or “reading“ any more. Then unplug the player

Disconnect the player from your PC and remove the USB cable.
Function Key Operation
—Power On/Off

ON OFF switch
Slide and hold into direction of ON OFF to turn the player on.
Slide and hold into direction of ON OFF until the screen motion disappears to turn the player off.
Push the switch into direction of HOLD to lock the player. Push it back to deactivate the keylock.

basIC OPEraTION
Touch keys
To guarantee smooth handling please use dry and clean hands.
Turn the player on
To turn the player on, slide the Power switch to the direction of the ON OFF symbol on the
back of the player.
Turn the player off
To turn the player off, slide and hold the Power switch into the direction of the ON OFF symbol
on the back of the player until the screen motion disappears.
PlEasE NOTE:
Slide and hold the Power switch into the direction of the ON OFF symbol until the shut-down process is completed.
Otherwise the player would return to the previous status.
Hold Function
Use the Hold (Lock) function to deactivate the player controls to avoid accidental activation.
—To activate the Hold function, slide the Power switch into direction of the HOLD symbol
on the back of the player.
The lock icon will appear in the top right corner of the display.
—Slide the Hold switch back to turn the Hold function off.
Adjusting Volume
—Move with your thumb/finger upward/downward the touchpad slider in the center of your
player to adjust the volume.
Alternatively, you can touch the last element of the slider – on the top to increase / on the
bottom to decrease the volume.
Resetting the player
In case of a system crash of your player, push a thin metal pin (e.g. a needle or the end of a paper-
clip) into the reset hole, to reset the player.

To get to a desired menu, use the touchpad slider respectively the FFD/REW keys to select a menu
item. Use the OK key to enter or the Menu key to quit a menu.

PlaybaCk Of audIO fIlEs
—Copy music files to the player’s Flash memory.
—Connect the supplied earphones.
—In the main menu, select <Music> and use the OK key to enter the submenu.
—Use the touchpad slider or the FFD/REW keys to select one option in the menu and press the
OK key to confirm your selection or to enter the submenu.
—Use the Menu key to go back to previous menu.
NOW PLAYING
—Select <Now Playing> in the music menu and press the OK key to start the playback of an
audio file.
PlEasE NOTE:
<Now Playing> is only able to playback music from the Audio Play Queue.
Move to next/previous song
—Press the FFD/REW keys to stop the current song and to move to the next/previous song.
Fast-Forward/Rewind
—Press and keep pressing the FFD/REW keys to fast-forward/rewind within a song in order
to search for a certain part of it.
—Release the key to continue playing from the current position.
—If the search goes beyond the beginning/end of a song, it will continue through the next/
previous song.
Pause during playback
—Press the Play key shortly during playback to pause the playback.
—Press the Play key while paused to resume the playback from where it was paused.

AUDIO PLAY QUEUE
Add your favourite choice of music to the Audio Play Queue.
—The music in Audio Play Queue will be shown in <Now playing>.
—Select a title and press and hold the OK key for about 2 seconds.
—Select from the appearing pop-up window:
<Remove from Queue> to remove the selected music from the Audio Play Queue.
<Shuffle Queue> to play the files from the playlist randomly.
<Clear Queue> to clear the Audio Play Queue
The player also provides various ways to easily choose a group of music files in case they offer ID3-Tag information.
All Songs:
—Enter <All Songs> to list all titles from the player.
—Select a title and press the OK key to play the selected track.
—All songs will be played successively.
PlEasE NOTE:
You can also add the desired music one by one to the Audio Play Queue. Press and hold the OK key for about 2 seconds and
a window will popup, select <Add to Queue> and press the OK key to add the music to the Audio Play Queue.
Artists:
—Enter <Artists> to show a list of all artists the player contains songs from.
—Select an artist and press the OK key to show all albums belonging to the artist.
—Select one album and press the OK key to list all tracks from the album.
—Select a track and press the OK key to play all the tracks from the album.
Albums:
—Enter <Albums> to show a list of all albums the player contains songs of.
—Select an album and press the OK key to list all tracks of the album.
—Select one track and press OK key to play all tracks from the album.
Genres:
—Enter <Genre> to show a list of all genres the songs on the player present.
—Select a genre and press the OK key to show a list of all albums of the genre.
—Select one album and press the OK key to list all tracks of the album.
—Select a track and press the OK key to play all tracks of the album.

Playlist:
—Synchronize the playlists you create in the Windows Media®Player (version 10 or above) to the
player. Refer to the Windows Media®Player Help for details on synchronizing contents to devices.
—List all playlists on the player.
—Play songs in the selected playlist.
A-B REPEAT FUNCTION
To listen to one section of a track repeatedly, use the A-B repeat function.
—In play mode, press and hold the OK key for about 2 sec. to set the starting point (point A) of the desired loop.
—Press and hold the OK key for about 2 seconds again to set the end point (point B).
—The A-B selection will be played repeatedly.
—Press and hold the OK key again to cancel the repeat function.
PlEasE NOTE:
The interval between point A and point B must be more than 3 seconds.
LYRICS DISPLAY FUNCTION
The player supports lyrics files in LRC format.
—Choose an MP3 or WMA file, for example “happymusic.mp3“.
—Download a lyrics file from internet. The lyrics file must have the filename extension LRC.
Example: “happymusic-2004.lrc“.
—Rename the lyrics file. For example “happymusic.lrc“. Make sure the lyrics filename is the same as the
corresponding music filename.
—Copy both files into the same folder to the player.
—Start playback of the music file.
—The lyrics will now be displayed synchronously on the bottom of the screen while the music is being played.
PlEasE NOTE:
—The player supports LRC format only.
—If the lyrics do not synchronize with the music, please download a better lyrics file from the internet and try again or edit the
LRC file with a text editor (e.g. Notepad.exe)
—Make sure the music file and the LRC file are located in the same directory and the filenames are the same (the extension, of
course, will be different). If not, the player will not recognize the lyrics file.

EDIT OR MODIFY LYRICS FILES
Lyrics files can be created, modified and saved with the Microsoft®Windows Editor. This tool can
be found in Start > Programs > Tools. You may need this to optimize e.g. the synchronizing of
lyrics files.
—Open or start a new lyrics file e.g. “happymusic.lrc“ in the Editor program.
Type in a text like the following:
[00:00] HAPPY MUSIC
[00:17] I‘m happy
[00:19] listening to music
[00:25] and lying in the sun
—Each line defines the beginning time of the appropriate part of the songtext.
PlEasE NOTE:
Each line in this file has to be formatted as below:
[MM:SS]<Space>Text
MM Minute
SS Second
<Space> Space character
Text Songtext/Lyrics which begins to be sung in the appropriate second [MM:SS]
For the above sample the first two lines have the following meaning:
[00:00] Song title “Happy Music“, will be displayed until second 17 of the song on the screen
[00:17] First line of the appropriate song text (indicated after a space character)
after 17 seconds of pure music.
—Change the songtext which is meant to appear on your player‘s display or the indicated time
for the beginning of the appropriate text lines depending on what is intended to be modified.
—Save the edited or modified lyrics file.
PlEasE NOTE:
It is required to save your lyrics files with the extension *.lrc instead of *.txt!
However, you may edit the file extension in Windows Explorer later on.

NavIgaTION
You may navigate through your files and delete files from your MAX-IVY.
Delete files from the player
—In the main menu, select <Navigation> and press the OK key to enter.
—Use the touchpad slider or the FFD/REW keys to choose a folder and press the OK key to enter.
—Choose the file you want to delete and press and hold the OK key.
—Choose <Delete file> from the pop-up menu and press the OK key.
—Choose “OK“ and press the OK key to delete the file from your player.
PlEasE NOTE:
Only audio, video and image files can be deleted.
abOuT
Information is available regarding the player firmware version, used memory, and free memory size.
—Select <About> in the main menu.
—Press the OK key to enter.
—Information about the player appears.
—Press the menu key to exit.

vOICE rECOrdINg
Start voice recording
—Select <Record> in the main menu and press the OK key to enter the menu item.
—Select <Start Record> and press the OK key to start recording.
—Press the play key to pause recording.
—Press the menu key to stop recording and go back to the previous menu.
The voice record will be saved into the “Voice“ folder, named “Vxxxx.wav“ (e.g. “V0001.wav“).
PlEasE NOTE:
—The screen will display”UI record error! No Memory” when all available memory is in use.
Delete some files to generate more disk space.
—A higher recording sampling frequency increases the audio quality, but needs more memory space.
Playback of voice records
This operation is similar to playback of music.
—Select <Voice> in the main menu and press the OK key to enter.
—Move with your thumb/finger upward/downward the touchpad slider or use the FFD/REW
keys to select a record.
—Press the OK key to start the playback of the record.
PlEasE NOTE:
—Press and hold the OK key to open a pop-up window.
—To append the selected file to the play queue, select <Append to Queue> and press the OK key.
—To clear the play queue, select <Clear Queue> and press the OK key.
—To remove recording files from the play queue, select <Delete File> and press the OK key.
Record Settings
—Select <Record> in the main menu and press the OK key to enter the menu item.
—Select <Settings> and press the OK key to enter the submenu.
—Use the FFD/REW keys to choose a record setting (Encoder or Rate).
—Press the OK key to enter the submenu and choose one option as your current setting.
—Press the OK key to confirm and apply.
—Press the Menu key to go back to the previous menu item.

PlaybaCk Of vIdEO fIlEs
This player supports MPEG4 and WMV video files in AVI containers.
PlEasE NOTE:
Only soundtracks in MP3 format are supported within video files.
—Select <Video> in the main menu and press the OK key to enter the menu.
—Move with your thumb/finger upward/downward the touchpad slider or use the FFD/REW
keys to select a file and press the OK key to start the playback.
—Press PLAY/PAUSE to pause the video playback.
The screen displays a time bar with a position mark and the elapsed and total time (sec.).
—In Video mode the FFD/REW keys can be used to skip movies by touching once or to skip
forward/back in the actual playing movie by touching and holding till the desired position is
reached.
—Press the Menu key to go back to the list of video files and again to exit to the main menu.
