Introduction
The Maxview medium and high gain group C/D ‘Precision’ masthead amplifiers feature low noise figures and
are designed to improve signal performance in weak UH TV group C/D signal areas. The input filtering
provides good rejection of out of group TV signals. They are suitable for mast fixing with the releasable cable
tie provided or for wall fixing using the drill out tabs. The ‘Precision’ masthead amplifiers are fully screened and
suitable for use in either professional MATV or domestic systems. The amplifiers are designed for indoor or
outdoor use, and for mounting close to the antenna, requiring +12V d.c. line powering from either the MHP1,
MHP2 or MHPL1 power supply units.
The medium gain MHA12CD/S provides excellent performance in smaller systems utilising relatively short
cable runs (approx. <15m). The high gain MHA23CD/S Group C/D amplifier is ideally suited for either small or
larger systems where longer cable runs may be employed. The MHA23CD/S caters for extremely weak
signals and/or long cable run installations and is provided with a cascade line power option.

1. Installation Recommendations
1.1 or optimum performance and to provide the best interference free reception we recommend that these guidelines are followed
when installing your masthead amplifier.
●Mount the masthead/aerial combination as high as possible with a clear line of sight towards the transmitter.
●Always use a good quality screened coaxial cable, such as cable conforming to BS5425:Part 1:1986 for the installation.
●it the masthead amplifier no closer than 50cm and no more than 1m from the associated aerial. Ensure that the distance between
two UH TV aerials on a mast is at least 60cm-65cm.
●In order to minimise potential pick up, install the masthead/aerial combination and coaxial downlead away from overhead signal,
telephone and power cables.
2. Mounting Details
2.1 Undo the snap lock latches either side of the masthead outer housing and hinge the lid open.
2.2 Remove the inner diecast housing.
2.3 If fixing to a mast use the releasable cable tie provided. If fixing to a flat surface, locate drill-out tabs and remove the required tabs
on the inside wall of the outer housing and screw through these specially prepared areas.
2.4 Route the cables to the masthead housing. We recommend DS81, DS100 good quality screened coaxial cable with mating ‘ ’
connector to suit. Prepare the cable and attach ‘ ’ connectors (integral ‘O’ ring recommended) to the end of the cables. Screw the
cables securely to the correct input and output connections on the bottom of the inner diecast housing.
2.5 Replace the inner diecast housing into the outer housing ensuring the cables are positioned in the cable guides. Close the plastic
lid and seal by fastening the snap lock latches. ix the cable to the mast by using tape to hold all cables securely in position.
3. Cascade Line Powering
3.1 This is provided as standard on the group C/D UH antenna input of the MHA23CD/S to cater for extremely weak UH TV
signals and/or long cable run installations. When cascading amplifiers we recommend that the masthead amplifiers be cascaded
either with a screened masthead amplifier or a screened signal booster (located indoors). Ensure that there is a minimum of approx.
10-15m of cable between amplifiers connected in cascade.
3.2 If through line powering is required, peel back, but do not remove, the silver EMC tape on the left hand side of the inner diecast
housing. Insert the line power link (PL1) through the guide slot and into (SK1) and make sure it is pushed fully home. Re-seal the
tape across the hole. If the line power link needs to be removed, use long nose pliers to carefully remove it from the guide slot.
4. Power supply
4.1 The MHP1 (single output) and MHP2 (twin output) plug-in power supply units or the fully screened MHPL1 single output power
supply unit can be used with a single amplifier or multiple amplifier installations where up to 2 amplifiers may be required. The MHP2
incorporates signal splitting to provide an additional wideband TV output. Connect the +12V line power output of the MHP unit to the
TV/MHP terminal on the masthead amplifier.
4.2 Ensure that all installation work is completed before plugging in and switching on the associated power supply unit.
Many other installation possibilities exist for masthead amplifiers. Should you have any questions or require any assistance with
system planning please contact the Maxview Customer Helpline on 01553 811000.
