This Service Manual describes the operation,
disassembly,troubleshooting, and repairof Maytag®
Dishwashers.It is intended for use byauthorized
servicerswho troubleshoot andrepair these units.
NOTE: It is assumed that users of this manual are
familiar with the use of tools and equipment used
totroubleshoot and repair electrical,and
mechanical systems; and understand the
terminology used to describe and discuss them.
Related Publications
This is a base service manual, covering a range of
similar models. It is intended to be used in conjunction
with the Parts Manual and Technical Sheet covering
specific model being serviced.
General Precautions and Warnings
•Disposeof discarded appliance and shipping or
packing material properly.
•Do not allow children to play in or on dishwasher.
•Do not abuse, sit, stand or play on door or racks of a
dishwasher.
•Useonly detergents and rinse agents recommended for
useinadishwasher.
•Storedishwasherdetergent and rinse agents out of the
reachof children.
•Ifthedishwasherdrainsintoafooddisposer, make
suredisposeriscompletelyemptybeforerunning
dishwasher.
•Repairsshouldbedoneby a qualified technician.
•Do not tamper with controls.
•Donot touch the heating element during or immediately
afteruse.
•Load sharp knives with the handles up to reduce the
risk of cut-type injuries or damaging seal.
To avoid risk of personal injury or death due to
electrical shock:
•Groundingwires andwirescolored likegrounding
wires are NOT to be used as current carrying
conductors.
•Standard acceptedcolorcoding for groundwires
is green or green with a yellow stripe.
•Groundingwires shouldnot beremovedfrom
individualcomponents whileservicing, unless
componentis to beremoved and replaced.
•Replaceallremovedgroundingwires before
completingservice.

To avoid death, severe personal injury, fire or
electrical shock when using dishwasher observe
the following:
• Observe all local codes and ordinances.
•Disconnectelectrical power todishwasher before
servicing.
•Connectdishwasher to agrounded metal,
permanentwiring system.
•DONOT ground to gasline.
•DO NOT ground to cold water pipe if pipe is
interrupted by plastic, non-metallic gaskets, or
otherinsulating (non-conducting)materials.
•Check with a qualified electrician if you are not
surethis appliance is properlygrounded.
•Thisdishwasher is designed tooperate on
regular house current (120 V, 60 Hz). Use a
circuit equipped with a 15 ampere fuse or circuit
breaker. Use a 20 amperefuseif dishwasher is
connectedwith a food waste disposer.
•Undercertain conditions, hydrogen gas maybe
produced in a hot water system that has not
beenused for 2weeks or more. HYDROGEN
GAS IS EXPLOSIVE. If hot water system has
notbeen used for suchaperiod, before using
dishwasher, turn on all hot water faucets and let
waterflow from eachfor several minutes.Thiswill
releaseany accumulated hydrogengas.
HYDROGEN GAS IS FLAMMABLE. Do not
smoke or use an open flame during this time.
•Do not store or use combustible materials,
gasolineor other flammablevapors and liquidsin
the vicinity of this or any other appliance.
•Do not wash plastic items unless marked
"dishwashersafe" or theequivalent. If not
marked,check with manufacturerfor
recommendations.Items that are notdishwasher
safe may melt and create a potential fire hazard.
•Toavoidentrapment and/orsuffocation,remove
dooror door latch mechanism fromany
dishwasher that is discarded or not in use.
