ginestumblesorseemssluggishwhen
accelerating,adjustlow-speedmixture
screwuntilengineacceleratescleanly.
Readjustidlespeedscrewifnecessary
toobtainrecommendedidlespeedof
2800-3300rpm.Chainmustnotmove
whenengineisidling.
High-speedmixturescrewshouldbe
adjustedtoobtainoptimumperform-
ancewithsawundercuttingload.Do
notadjusthigh-speedmixturescrew
toolean(turnedtoofarclockwise)as
maximumpermissibleenginespeed
maybeexceededandenginemaybe
damagedfrom lackoflubricationand
overheating.Maximumno-loadspeed
(withbarandchaininstalled)mustnot
exceed11,000rpm.
Toremovecarburetor(4—Fig.
MC130),removetheairfilter cover(1)
andfilter element.Removethetwo
screwssecuringthefilter base(3)and
carburetor.Removethefilter baseand
carburetor,anddisconnectfuellineand
throttlelink.Tightencarburetor
mountingscrewsto30-40in.-lbs.
(3.4-4.5N-m).
IGNITION.Allenginesare
equippedwithanelectronicignition
system.Theignitioncoilandelectronic
circuitryarecontainedina one-piece
ignitionmodule(10—Fig.MC130),
whichisservicedasa unitassembly.
Airgapbetweenthefiywheel mag-
netsandthelaminatedlegsofthemod-
uleshouldbe0.010-0.015in.(0.25-0.38
mm).
Loosenignitionmodulemounting
screwsandmovemoduletoobtainde-
siredairgap.Ifairgapisexcessive,en-
ginemaybiehardtostartormaynot
start.
LUBRICATION.Theengineislu-
bricatedbyoilmixedwiththegasoline
fuel.Recommendedfiiehoil ratiois40:1
whenusingMcCulloch2-cycleoil.If
McCullochoilisnotused,a goodgrade
oildesignedforuseinair-cooled,
two-strokeenginesshouldbemixedat
a20:1ratio.Donotuseoildesignedfor
automotiveuse.Usea separatecon-
tainertomixthefuelandoil.
Allmodelsareequippedwithan
automaticchainoilingsystem.Recom-
mendedoilisMcCullochChain,Bar
andSprocketoil.Oildesignedforauto-
motiveusemayalsobeused.Selectoil
viscosityaccordingtoambienttem-
perature.
REPAIRS
CRANKCASEPRESSURETEST.
Animproperlysealedcrankcasecan
causetheenginetobehardtostart,run
rough,havelowpowerandoverheat.
RefertoENGINESERVICEsectionof
thismanualforcrankcasepressuretest
procedure.Ifcrankcaseleakageisindi-
cated,pressurizethecrankcaseanduse
asolutionofsoapandwatertocheck
gasket,seals,pulselineandcastings
forleakage.
PISTON,RINGSAND
CYLINDER.Toremovethepiston,it
isnecessarytoremovethepowerhead
(12—Fig.MC131)andseparatethecyl-
inderfrom thecrankcaseasfollows:
Unboltandremovechainbrakehous-
ing(13—Fig.MC131),barandchain.
Removetheairfilter cover(10),fan
housing(24),fiiel tank(7)andoiltank
(20).
Removetheignitionmodule,air
filter assembly,carburetorandmuffler.
Removesparkplugandinstalla suit-
ablepistonstoptoolorinserttheendof
aropeinsparkplugholetopreventthe
crankshaftfrom rotating.Notethatfly-
