McIntosh 60TH ANNIVERSARY SYSTEM - annexe 1 User manual

HISTORY Mcintosh Timeline
In 1949 Frank McIntosh and Gordon Gow, two relative
unknowns in the then infant realm of audio, debut a
new design for a power amplifier with a circuit they refer
to as the “Unity Coupled Output Stage”. Little did they
know that their new model 50W-1 amplifier would soon be
heralded as the audio electronics equivalent of the ‘Shot
Heard ‘Round the World’? Propelled by the wildly
favorable consumer response to this remarkable
amplifier Frank and Gordon founded The McIntosh
Audio Laboratory.
Innovators from the
very beginning,
McIntosh rose
quickly to become
market-leading
manufacturers of
the finest quality,
most coveted audio
components in
the history of the
audio industry;
a reputation that
endures to this day.
Made in
the USA
2009 marks the
60th anniversary of
McIntosh Laboratory,
Inc. a milestone in
the audio industry,
especially when one
considers that for all of these 60 years McIntosh
equipment has been engineered and manufactured in
the USA. Other US audio companies, as well as global
audio companies, have come and gone but McIntosh
lives on. This history of success indicates a long term
consistency in company philosophy for producing
the highest quality audio products.
The most significant fact about McIntosh products is their
design excellence with emphasis on superior performance
and long operating life. Units manufactured as far back
as the 1950’s are still in use today and sought after by
collectors and audiophiles alike.
To observe our 60th Anniversary, McIntosh returns
to our roots and looks toward the future with the
manufacture of three very special anniversary products.
Vintage Style meets
Modern Technology
Celebrating our vintage heritage McIntosh announces
a unique 60th Anniversary Set; the C22 Vacuum Tube
Preamplifier and the MC75 Vacuum Tube Monoblock
Power Amplifier. Celebrating the future, McIntosh
announces the 60th Anniversary MXA60 Audio System.
1980

XRT20 loudspeaker system, which
also earned a patent, are released.
1985
The first McIntosh CD player,
the MCD7000, is introduced.
1949

amplifier, the model MC240,
is introduced.
1992
The XR290 loudspeaker with the
first 4-woofer system in 19 years
islaunched. It features woofer,
midrange, and tweeter columns
and LP/HP®speaker design.
Carl Van Gelder receives an
important patent for the LD/HP®
driver assembly design.
1999
MC2000 50th anniversary
limited edition vacuum tube
power amplifier is introduced.
The C22 Preamplifier was originally in production from
1963 to 1972. A commemorative Frank McIntosh version
was designed and in production from 1995 to 1998.
The C22 returns with updated circuitry for the 60th
anniversary. The MC75 Monoblock Amplifier, originally
in production from 1961 to 1970, returns as the amplification
companion to the C22. These 60th anniversary models
are available as a set and production is limited. McIntosh
continuously incorporates performance and reliability
improvements into each new product design to maintain their
lead in technical superiority. Both the C22 and MC75 reflect
today’s advanced tube design and updated circuitry yet the
classic cosmetics remain similar to the original design.
The new MXA60 represents a truly new venue for McIntosh
and symbolizes a leap into the future most befitting of our
60th Anniversary. The 60th Anniversary C22 and MC75 are the
logical next step with classic reissue McIntosh products.
A Tribute to Audio Excellence
The first McIntosh commemorative product was
introduced in 1993; the MC275 Gordon Gow Tube Power
Amplifier. A fitting tribute to Gordon Gow (1919 – 1989),
this popular gold plated tube power amplifier was
in production until 1998. The popularity of this
Commemorative MC275 resulted in a stainless steel
non-commemorative version in 1997 and the MC275
has been a popular tube power amplifier in our current
product line ever
since with no signs
of retirement.
Fondly remembering
our founder,
Frank McIntosh
(1901–1990), the
Commemorative
Frank McIntosh C22
was introduced in
1995 to compliment
the Gordon Gow
Commemorative
Amplifier. This C22
was in production
until 1998.
In 1999, to celebrate
McIntosh’s 50th
Anniversary,
Sidney Corderman
co-founder of
McIntosh, returned from semi-retirement to design a
Tube Power Amplifier, the MC2000. This limited production
gold plated amplifier proved a fitting tribute to 50 years
of audio mastery.
2006
The new “video” product
category is introduced featuring
the MDLP1projector and
VP1000 video processor.
2004
The MC275 Mark V is introduced
establishing this the most popular
amplifier McIntosh ever produced.
XLS Loudspeaker Series
is launched.
McIntosh designs an audio system
for the 100th anniversary Ford GT.

radio for Harley Davidson.
legendary
In recognition of our 60th anniversary, it is with great pride that we offer this
Limited Edition MC75 amplifier. Largely true to the original design, the 60th
Anniversary Edition MC75 offers many circuit updates that improve reliability
while retaining the alluring sonic character of the original. Among the updates
is a custom application of the patented Sentry Monitor short circuit protection.
Balanced inputs and outputs are added to make this amplifier ready for
today’s digital sources. The MC75 develops 75 watts into 2, 4, or 8 ohms.
A brilliant, triple-polished gold color titanium stainless
steel chassis takes the place of chrome plating for a
stunning appearance that lasts a lifetime.
The year is 1961; McIntosh Laboratory has introduced the MC275
75 watt per channel stereo amplifier and its 75 watt monaural
counterpart, the MC75. Just three years earlier the BBC had begun
regular broadcasts in stereo sound, and demand for stereo playback
systems was growing. Still, recognizing the value of monoblock
amplifiers to the ultimate quality of audio playback, McIntosh releases
the MC75. Here is early proof of our penchant for pushing the limits
of performance in an effort to provide our customers with the very
best solutions in audio.
60th Anniversary and System
C22 MC75
The 60th Anniversary Limited Edition C22 Tube Preamplifier recreates the look
and feel of the original C22 with its backlit glass and brushed anodized aluminum
frontpanel, and sees the addition of a number of circuit enhancements that bring
the design current with recent McIntosh preamplifier specifications. Balanced
inputs and outputs are provided to insure optimum performance with fine
quality source components, while the addition of a moving coil and moving
magnet phono amplifier guarantees compatibility with the widest range of
phono cartridges. Blessed with modern materials and
manufacturing methods, all signal switching
in the C22 is done with electromagnetic
switches driven by Digital Logic. Lastly,
in what is perhaps the most striking nod
to contemporary technology, the Limited
Edition C22 comes complete with an IR
remote control.
introduced in 1963, the McIntosh C22 Tube Preamplifier ushered in the era of audio
preamplifier as “control center”. Designed to function as a superb line stage,
phono preamplifier, equalizer and input switch, the C22 raised the bar for competing
preamplifiers, and forged a standard of features and flexibility for future McIntosh
preamplifier designs that endures to this day.
