The Ultimate Lock 3200 Series Installation Guide
Hi, I’m Driller, the Install gorilla. Congratulations on purchasing The Ultimate
Lock®, the finest deadbolt lock on the market. The Ultimate Lock®is engineered to be
a premium deadbolt locking system with multiple applications. I’m here to make your in-
stallation go as slick as a banana peel. I must be hungry! Just follow me and these
step-by-step instructions. We will install The Ultimate Lock®3200 Series together
and make your home safer. It is vital that your lock is installed properly to
provide the maximum protection possible. Read these instructions completely
before you begin the installation.Remember after we finish, go online and register
your lock at the customer support site below. From here you can submit a ticket to
report questions or problems you may have. http://www.theultimatelock.org/
a. This lock is designed for a right- or left-handed door that swings opens into the home or office. The ex-
isting deadbolt should be installed at a 2-3/8" backset (Standard residential backset) (centered from the
edge of the door). b. To provide maximum protection, The Ultimate Lock® should be installed on a solid 1-
3/4” thick wood door or on a steel-skinned, insulation, or foam filled door mounted in a double studded door
frame. c. If your door does not already have a deadbolt installed, we highly recommended that you pur-
chase an installation jig kit for deadbolts and door handles. These kits include special hole saws, templates,
and other aids to simplify the installation process. If your door has a metal skin, be sure your kit includes Bi-
Metal hole saws to cut the steel door. Note: If your door jamb/frame is steel, do not remove the hinge
screws! See step 2. Please call customer service for more information before starting an install involving a
steel frame door.
Before we get started, please read the entire instructions.
1. Identify Your Parts

Screws:

a. Unlike any other deadbolt lock, The Ultimate Lock® includes screws to reinforce the hinges
of your door to provide maximum protection from forced entry (screws in bag A). Your Ultimate
Lock®comes with six (6) special long #8 screws that go through the jamb and secure the
hinges to the studs of the door frame. The six (6) shorter #7 screws go into the door edge
hinges in the middle of the door edge if possible, or one inside and one outside hole, on a steel
-skinned or thin door. b. See Figure 2. Remove half of the existing screws from each of the
three hinges, as shown in the diagram. If the screws in the door are machine screws (NOT
wood screws), do not remove them. Some metal doors have a metal door jamb and use ma-
chine screws to hold the hinges to the door. c. Use the special 5" (127 mm) long x 5/32" (4
mm) diameter drill bit provided to drill out the exposed screw holes all the way into the studs
behind the door frame.

3. Measure Your Backset
a. For doors with a deadbolt or key
lock: Remove the old lock from the door.
Measure the distance from the center of
the hole for the old lock to the edge of
the door. It will be either 2-3/8" or 2-3/4".
If not, use the jig kit to drill a 2-1/8" hole
at the 2-3/8" position. (Please note that
the 3200 only works for doors with a 2-
3/8" backset) Also measure the diameter
of the hole in the edge of the door for the
bolt. It should be 1" (25 mm) in diameter.
Check that the new deadbolt will slide
into the hole. If not, use a 1" spade drill
and expand the hole to the proper size.
You can now skip to step 4.
b. For doors without an existing deadbolt: See Figure 3 and
measure the backset for your door handle/knob. The center of
the knob will either be 2-3/8" or 2-3/4" from the edge of the door.
Also measure the thickness of your door; it should be 1-3/4". Call
customer service if you need help.

a. Hold the cylinder in your left hand and rotate the flat blade to a horizontal position.
b. With the deadbolt RETRACTED (unlocked position), position the cylinder on the outside of
the door while inserting the flat blade (tailpiece) horizontally through the deadbolt crosshole.
NOTE: The deadbolt crosshole will be either at the top or bottom of the unit, as determined in
steps 4a and 4b above. Make sure the tailpiece is flat (or horizontal) when inserted through the
crosshole. From inside of the home, if the hinges are on the left hand side the cross hole (4b)
will be on top. NOTE: The cylinder will appear upside down. This is correct. Test the lock by
turning the tail piece, which should lock and unlock the deadbolt. If you cannot unlock or lock
the deadbolt, then remove the cylinder and rotate the tail piece 180 degrees and try again.
c. Install the two long cylinder screws into the main locking body of the lock, as shown above
(screws found in Bag C). To install the first cylinder screw into the cylinder, take the main body
and rotate the gear into the unlocked position. Secure the main body to the door with the tail
piece inserted into the back of the main body. Once positioned on the door, turn the gear to the
locked position. A screw hole should expose itself on the right side of the gear. Install one of
the cylinder mounting screws and tighten to a snug fit. NOTE: Do not over tighten the screw to
allow for the other screw to be installed. Once the right cylinder mounting screw is installed,
slowly rotate the gear to the right to expose the left screw hole. Once again, install the cylinder
mounting screw and tighten to a secure fit. Check the other cylinder screw and tighten if
4. Install Deadbolt
a. Look at your door from the inside of the house, or room, and note if
the hinges are on the right or left side of the door.
b. For a door with hinges on the right, install the deadbolt with the cross
hole at the bottom. For a door with hinges on the left, install the dead-
bolt with the cross hole on top (Figure 4b).
c. Insert the deadbolt properly and install the screws from bag B. The
deadbolt face plate should be flush (aligned) with the edge of door and
not sticking out from the edge of the door. See figure 4a.

a. Insert the key into the lock and check for correct operation. You should be able to remove
the key at both the locked and unlocked positions. If the lock does not function properly, the
flat blade (tailpiece) is most likely not positioned correctly.
b. Now that the cylinder screws are holding up the main lock body, it is time to pre-drill holes.
There will be six (6) exposed holes, three top and three bottom. Mark these holes with a pencil
or metal awl. Remove the Main Body and using the 9/64" drill bit, pre-drill the holes to a maxi-
mum depth of 1-1/4". Clean away all drilling dust. Drilling deeper than 1-1/4" may penetrate the
outside surface of the door. Use masking tape or a mark on the drill bit to indicate 1-1/4".
5a. Install Key Lock
NOTE: Check to see if the lock opens and closes with the
deadbolt. If it does proceed to the next step. If it doesn't then
the tailpiece needs to be rotated to the right, in the horizontal
position and installed through the deadbolt (open position)
into the main locking body in the open position, not the locked
position. Do not force anything for this could bend the tail
piece.
a. Using the 3/32" drill bit, drill the two holes for the shock absorber on the door. DO NOT
OVER DRILL HOLES.
6. Shock Absorber

b. After drilling the two holes, open screw Bag D to secure the shock absorber (figure 6) to the
edge of the door. Using the twist knob and the key, check the lock for smooth operation. If the lock
works smoothly, you are ready for Step 7.

a. Install decorative cover and secure with two case screws (found in Bag E) using No. 1 Phillips
screwdriver. Tighten 90 percent of the first screw, then 90 percent of the second. Then the final 10
percent on each screw. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!
b. Use the twist knob and key to test the lock. Make sure the lock still turns smoothly. If the lock
hangs or seems to be obstructed while turning, call our office at 866-MLS-4005.
c. Both the deadbolt and the security bar should lock and unlock at the same time.
d. With the deadbolt and security bar in the unlocked position, place the twist knob onto the lock
vertically oriented and secure with screw 1(found in BAG E).

8-a. Install Striker Plate
a. Remove the old deadbolt striker plate from the door frame.
Close the door and see if the new deadbolt aligns with the old
hole in door jamb. If not, use the 1" spade bit to enlarge the
old hole for the new bolt. Make sure it will extend the full 1"
depth and the security button will engage.
b. With the deadbolt partially extended, close the door until the
deadbolt touches the door frame. Mark the top and bottom of
the deadbolt on the edge of the frame.
c. Hold the striker plate on the door frame with the two edge
tabs on the edge of the door frame aligned to the top and bot-
tom of the deadbolt marks. While holding the striker plate in
place, mark along the outside edge of the striker plate. This
will usually be larger than the old striker plate. Using the
chisel, hollow out the space for The Ultimate Lock® striker
plate. Correct as needed until flush (aligned).

8-b. Install Striker Plate
TIP: Do not force the screws in. If the screws get too tight before they are all in they could bind.
If they are tight, either apply soap to screw threads or carefully remove the screw and re-drill
the pilot hole and try again.
For steel door frames: If the door jamb is steel, please call customer service at 866-MLS-4005.
You will have to surface-mount the striker plate by drilling two (2) 5/8" holes in the steel frame
at the point of the mounting holes to accommodate the dimples on the back of the striker plate.
If there is no wood behind the steel frame for the two (2) 3-1/2” screws, you will have to use
1/4" x 1" flat-head machine screws with washers and nuts to mount the striker plate. You will
need two (2) 1/4" x 1" flat head machine screws, two 5/16" flat washers, two 1/4" flat washers,
two 1/4" lock washers, and two 1/4" nuts. Holding the 1/4" screw in the hole, take a pair of nee-
dle nose pliers and place the 5/16" washer on the screw, followed by the 1/4" flat washer. Then
the 1/4" lock washer, followed by 1/4" nut and tighten them down snug.
Be careful not to drop washers or nuts down the door frame.
d. Holding the striker plate in position, mark the position of the two recessed holes in the
striker plate (Figure 8a) in the mortise of the door frame. Using the 3/4" spade drill bit, start a
hole 1/8" in front of the hole marks and drill a 3/8" deep hole at a 30 degree angle (Figure 8b).
Position the striker plate to make sure it fits flush in the mortise. Hold the striker plate in posi-
tion, close the door and activate the lock to verify both deadbolts clear the striker plate when
thrown. Correct as necessary. Then, using the 3/32" drill bit, pre-drill the two small positioning
holes in the striker plate in the mortise. Using the two (2) small flat head wood screws in
the screw package F, attach the striker plate. Close door and verify that the deadbolts clear
the striker plate. Using the 5"- 5/32" drill bit provided, pre-drill the holes for the 3-1/2" mounting
screws at a 30 degree angle, to a depth of the full length of the drill bit. Set the torque to full on
your power drill and using a #2 bit, slowly screw the 3-1/2” screws into the door frame, applying
firm pressure on the bit. Close the door and double check the functioning of the lock for both
deadbolts.
9. Finishing Up
Driller
Thank you for following my instructions!
NOTE: Remember to use the “Children’s Ring” to prevent be-
ing locked out by the kids. Take the black plastic circle and
push it onto the column of the lock out feature to disable the
lock out function. You now have the protection of The Ultimate
Lock® ! For added safety, we is recommended that you apply
the “Protected by Ultimate Lock System” decal to the door or a
nearby window. BE SAFE, LOCK UP, AND PUSH IN THE
“LOCK OUT” FEATURE WHEN YOU RETIRE.

11. French Doors, Double Doors and Safe Rooms
Installing The Ultimate Lock®in non-standard configurations requires special instructions. The Ulti-
mate Lock® can secure French Doors and Double Doors. Creating a “Safe Room” requires replac-
ing the standard hollow core interior door with a solid core wood, a steel or fiber glass door to cre-
ate a secured environment. Please call customer service for installation tips.
12. Outward-Opening Doors
THE ULTIMATE LOCK IS DESIGNED FOR IN-WARD
SWINGING DOORS ONLY.
IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR
OUTWARD SWINGING APPLICATIONS.
10. Operations
The Ultimate Lock®utilizes a deadbolt and security bar that work in unison—a mortise deadbolt
and a rim deadbolt. The secondary rim deadbolt protrudes slightly across the door frame and
makes it very easy to verify that your door is locked. To lock your door, simply turn the twist knob
counterclockwise 90° until it is horizontal. The horizontal position of the twist knob will also tell you
at a glance that the lock is in fact locked. To unlock the door, turn the twist knob clockwise 90° until
it is vertical. For even more security, The Ultimate Lock® features the patented “Lockout” feature
that, when engaged, will prevent ANY key from opening the door. To engage the lockout feature,
lock the door and then simply press the button in until it latches in place. You are now ultimately
protected from intrusion!
