Many electrical and mechanical parts in the DLP PROJECTOR have special safety related characteristics.
These characteristics are often not evident from visual inspection nor can the protection afforded by them
necessarily be obtained by using replacement components rated for higher voltage, etc. Replacement parts
which have these special safety characteristics are identified in this service manual. Electrical components
having such features are identified by shading on the schematic diagram and the parts list of this service
manual and by the supplementary sheet for this chassis to be issued subsequently.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
NOTICE: Observe all cautions and safety related notes located inside the cabinet and on the chassis.
WARNING
1. Operation of this LCD PROJECTOR outside the cabinet or with the cover removed presents a shock hazard from the
LCD PROJECTOR power supplies.
2. When a short-circuit has occurred, replace those components that indicate evidence of overheating.
3. Grounding circuit continuity is vital for safe operation of equipment. Do not remove ground connection while the
power cord is still connected to the supply. Disconnect supply before servicing.
LEAKAGE CURRENT CHECK
Before returning the LCD PROJECTOR to the customer, it is recommended that leakage current be measured
according to the following methods.
1. Cold Check
With the AC plug removed from the AC source, place a jumper across the two AC plug prongs. Turn the LCD
PROJECTOR AC switch on. Using an ohm-meter, connect one lead to the AC plug and touch the other lead to each
exposed metal part (metal cabinet, screwheads, metal overlays, etc.), particularly any exposed metal part having a
return path to the chassis. Exposed metal parts having a return path to the chassis should have a minimum
resistance reading of 1 megohm. Any resistance below this value indicates an abnormality which requires corrective
action. Exposed metal parts not having a return path to the chassis will indicate an open circuit.
2. Hot Check
Use the circuit in Fig. 1 to perform this test.
(1) With switch S1 open, connect the LCD PROJECTOR to the measuring circuit. Immediately after connection,
measure the leakage current using both positions of switch S2, and with the switching devices in the LCD
PROJECTOR in all of their operating positions.
(2) Switch S1 is then closed, energizing the LCD PROJECTOR. Immediately after closing the switch, measure the
leakage current using both positions of switch S2, and with the switching devices in the LCD PROJECTOR in
all of their operating positions. Current measurements of items (1)and (2) are to be repeated after the LCD
PROJECTOR has reached thermal stabilization. The leakage current must not be more than 0.5 milliampere.

WARNING
1. An isolation transformer should be used between the projector and the AC supply point before any test/service is
performed on a LIVE chassis projector.
2. Operation of this projector outside the cabinet or with the cover removed, involves a shock hazard from the projector
power supplies. Work on the projector should not be attempted by anyone who is not thoroughly familiar with
precautions necessary when working on high voltage equipment.
3. When service is required, observe the original lead dressing. Extra precaution should be given to assure correct lead
dressing in the high voltage area. Where a short-circuit has occurred, replace those components that indicate
evidence of overheating.
LEAKAGE CURRENT COLD CHECK
Before returning the projector to the customer, it is recommended that leakage current be measured according to the
following methods.
With the AC plug removed from the AC source, place a jumper across the two AC plug prongs. Turn the projector AC
switch on. Using an 500V D.C. Insulation Tester, connect one lead to the jumpered AC plug and touch the other lead
to each exposed metal part (screwheads, etc.), particularly any exposed metal part having a return path to the
chassis. Exposed metal parts having a return path to the chassis should have a minimum resistance reading of 4
megohm. Any resistance below this value indicates an abnormality which requires corrective action.

Lamp.
Be careful not to scratch or leave a fingerprint on the
Lamp when replacing it.
(Removal)
1. Remove the ( ) screw and the Power Socket as shown
in Fig. 4-1.
2. Unfasten the two (b) catches and the Lamp Support
(U) as shown in Fig. 4-1.
3. Remove Lamp as shown in Fig. 4-2.
(Installation)
1. Make sure that the Lamp Support (D) and the Lamp
Support (S) shown in Fig. 4-3 are attached securely.
2. Install the Lamp in reverse order of the removal
procedure.

Note: 1. The inner wires are clamped so that they do not come close to heat generating parts. After servicing route all wires in
their original position.
2. Technicians ought to put on the wrist band to protect DLP against Static electricity during the operations.

When the lamp no longer functions, replace it with a new
one.
Caution:
• Do not remove the lamp immediately after turning off the
projector, the high temperature of the lamp can burn
you.
• For lamp replacement, press the power button to power
off, then wait for 120 seconds in stand-by mode to allow
the lamp to cool. Then turn off the main switch, unplug
the power cord from the outlet, and wait one hour so that
the lamp is cooled to the touch.
• Do not remove the lamp except for replacement.
Careless treatment can cause injury or fire.
• Do not touch the lamp element directly. It may break and
cause injury or burn yourself.
• Be sure not to drop the lamp lid screw into the projector.
Also be sure not to insert metal or any flammable
objects, it may cause fire or electric shock. If any objects
are inserted, please unplug and contact your dealer.
• Install the lamp securely, failure may cause a fire.
• If the light bulb explodes, some small glass fragments
may fall out through the small cooling grille, and stick to
the inside of projector or the lamp box. When taking the
lamp out, make sure to turn over the projector and hold
the handle of the lamp box to avoid injury from the glass
fragments.
• Never shake the lamp or hold it in front of your face after
removing the lamp box. The glass fragments may fall out
and cause injuries to your eyes.
1. Gently turn the projector over.
2. Loosen the screws of the lamp lid (a)
using a phillips screwdriver (+), and
remove the lid.
• Remove the lamp cover in the
direction of the arrow as indicated.
3. Loosen screws (b) using a phillips
screwdriver (+).
4. Pull up the handle.
5. Hold onto the projector by the handle
as you pull out the lamp.
• Pull out the lamp straight
upward.
• Pull the lamp out of the projector
slowly. Should the light bulb be
broken, glass fragments will spill
out if the lamp is pulled out too
quickly.
• Once the lamp has been
removed, do not spill liquid on it,
place it near flammable objects
or where children can touch it.
Otherwise, it may cause injury
or fire.
6. Insert the new lamp securely into the
projector body in the right direction.
7. Put the handle back to the holding
point.
• Make sure that the handle is
locked.
8. Tighten up the screws (b) using a
phillips screwdriver (+).
9. Tighten up the screws of the lamp lid
(a) using a phillips screwdriver (+).
How to reset the operation time meter
Plug in the power cord, turn on the main power switch, and
reset lamp time by pressing the AUTO POSITION button
and POWER button for 3 seconds simultaneously.
•Make sure that the STATUS indicator flashed twice and
the operation time meter has been reset.
Caution:
•Do not spill liquid on the lamp or place it near flammable
objects or where children can touch it. Otherwise, it
could cause injury or fire.
•Be sure that the projector guide is firmly inserted
between the right and left lamp guides.
Important:
•The projector will not turn on if you do not secure the
lamp lid.
•You must reset the operation time meter after you
replace the lamp.
•Do not reset the operation time meter unless the lamp
has been replaced.
Interval of the lamp replacement
The expected lamp lifetime is about 1,500 hours of
operation. However, the lamp life may differ according to the
operating environment and may be shorter than 1,500
hours. Decreases in brightness will indicate that the
projector lamp needs to be replaced. When lamp operation
time exceeds 1,000 hours, the indicator will flash alternately
between green and red (while the lamp is in operation;
when the lamp is not in operation, the STATUS indicator will
appear red only). When the lamp has been used for about
1,400 hours, the message “LAMP!!.”will appear on the
screen for one minute everytime the power is turned on.
When the lamp has been used for about 1,500 hours, the
projector will automatically shut off for safety and the power
and STATUS indicators light will be red. The projector
cannot be used until the lamp has been replaced and
operation timer has been reset.
Caution:
•The lamp is fragile. If broken, be careful not to cut
yourself with glass fragments.
•The replacement span of the lamp depends on the
environment. For replacement lamps, please contact
your dealer.
The projector automatically shuts off when the
lamp life exceeds 1,500 hours and cannot be used until
the lamp is replaced and the internal timer is reset.
