NOTE:
T
he
GPSMIC
series of products require setup and
programming
prior to
use
.
GPSMICs
ar
e
shipped
from the factory with basic
programming
already performed; however this default
pr
og
ram- ming
may not be
appropriate
for your radio system and some features may not be
enabled
.
To
get
the
most
out of your
GPSMIC
products
,
a system
administrator
or radio technician should program the unit(s) using
a
computer
and the
GPSMIC Tools
software suite before they are deployed into the
field
.
This
installation guide assumes that such
programming
has already been
per
f
ormed
.
If
it has not,
please
contact your system administrator or the dealer that you
purchased
the products from for further assistanc
e
.
INSTALL
BATTERY:
T
he
GPSMIC
uses a
rechargeable
lithium-ion battery pack to power the
unit
’
s internal Global Positioning receiver and data modem.
T
he
battery pack must be installed in the
unit prior to
opera
tion.
1. Rotate the belt clip on the back of the
GPSMIC
90° to expose the
thumbscrew
at the top of the
batt
er
y
compartment
c
o
v
e
r
.
Rotate the
thumbscrew
counter-clockwise until the cover
opens
.
Remove the c
o
v
e
r
.
2.
I
nser
t
the included
rechargeable
battery pack into the battery
compartment.
Ensure that the
batt
er
y
terminals are properly lined up with the contacts inside of the battery c
ompartment.
3.
Re-install
the battery
compartment
cover and rotate the
thumbscrew
clockwise to
tight
e
n.
Do
NOT
over
tighten.
CHARGE THE BATTERY PACK:
Once the battery pack is installed
,
it must be charged before
use
.

he
GPSMIC
issupplied with a wallcharger and a USB cable
for this
purpose
.
1.

e
the charging /
programming
port on the
GPSMIC
cable
.
This
is located at the back cover of
GPSMic.
I
nser
t
the quick-release
connector
of the charger into this port.
2. Once the charger is
connected
to the
GPSMIC,
plug the wallcharger into a 120 volt
AC
outlet.
3. Once the charging process has begun, the
LED
indicator on the side of the
GPSMIC
will flash
g
r
een
once every 10
seconds
.
Once charging is c
omplet
e
,
the
LED will
indicate solid green.
Typical
charge
time
isapproximately 5-6
hours
.
4. Disconnect the charger when charging is c
omplet
ed
.

operating
time
between
charges is generally greater than 10
hours
.

CONNECT
THE
GPSMIC
TO THE
RADIO:
Once the battery is
char
ged
,
you are ready to connect
the
GPSMIC
to the portable two-radio it
will
be used
with.
1. Ensure that the two-way radio is turned off whenever you connect or disconnect the
GPSMIC
to it.
Some radios
will
not properly detect that an audio accessory is
connected
if the
GPSMIC
is plugged in
while the radio is turned on.
2. Connect the
GPSMIC
to the two-way
radio
’
s audio accessory /
microphone
jack
.
3.
T
u
rn
the radio on and wait approximately five
seconds
.
T
he
LED
indicator on the side of the
GPSMIC
will
light green momentarily when the radio to which it is
connected
is switched
ON,
and red when
the
radio is switched
OFF
.
4. Select the
operating
channel and set the volume to a comfortable listening
lev
el
.
5.
T
he
GPSMIC
isnow ready for
use
.
CONNECTING
AN
EARPHONE
(optional):
For
privacy,
the
GPSMIC
can be used with an
earphone or
listen-only
earpiec
e
.
Simply
plug
the
earphone
into the 3.5mm audio accessory
connector
on the
GPSMIC.
CONNECTION
TO
A COMPUTER
(optional):
Some
GPSMICs
can be
connected
to a
computer running
the
GPSMIC Tools
software suite in order to allow the visual display of location reports
r

c
eiv
ed
over
the
air.
Not all
GPSMICs
have this
ability.
Y
ou
must have a Base Enabled
GPSMIC
and the
base
station mode must be set up during
programming
of the unit in order to take
advantage
of
this
capabilit
y
.

you are not sure whether your
GPSMIC
supports this

e
,
contact your

stem
administrator
or the dealer which sold you the GPSMIC.
