PREPARING TO PAINT
Be sure to use appropriate
protective gear and remove the
battery pack from the tool.
Make sure area is well ventilated
and free of flammable vapors.
LIQUID MATERIAL PREPARATION
See Fig. 2, 3, 4
TIP: Make sure the type of material you use can be
cleaned with either mineral spirits or paint thinner
(for oil-based paints) or a warm water and soap
solution (for water soluble paints like latex). Use
drops cloths during pouring, mixing, and viscosity
testing of materials to be sprayed to protect your
floors and anything else in the spraying area that
you wish to remain untouched.
Most paints and stains are supplied ready for brush
applications. They may need to be thinned (diluted)
before using in the Spray Gun. Refer to the paint
manufacturer's recommendations for thinning their
product. Test the viscosity of the product before
thinning. Do not use materials with a
flashpoint higher than 60°C (140°
F).
A mixing bucket needs to be prepared (not supplied)
to use when transferring spray material from the
original container into the bucket for thinning and
measuring purposes (fig. 2).
A viscosity test cup is provided to determine the
"Run-out time" of the material being used.
•Beforemeasuring fortheproperviscosity, stirthe
material thoroughly. When shaken, air bubbles
are produced which may give an uneven spray. If
the paintor other fluidis old, itmay be necessary
to strain the fluid of all debris and lumps before
spraying.
•Dip the viscosity cup into the material being
sprayed and fill the cup completely.
•With the cup held over the material container,
measure the amount of time it takes for the
stream ofmaterial flowingout to "break"or stop
being aconstant stream outof thebottom ofthe
cup (35 seconds or less) (fig. 3). This is the "Run-
out time" Refer to the thinning table for
informationon thethinning requiredfordifferent
materials.
•If material needs thinning, add the appropriate
liquid thinning material recommended by the
manufacturer (fig. 4).
•It is possible to spray latex paint with this unit,
however, the required thinning may exceed
material manufacturer's recommendation. Thin
latex paintso that itruns throughviscosity cup in
under 28 seconds. The operator should consider
the type of application and final location of the
project when spraying a material that requires
more than 28 seconds to run through the
viscosity cup.

PREPARATION TIPS
•Always stir and strain the material thoroughly
before use.
•With any spraying job you should always ensure
that youhave properlyprepared thesurface toget
the best finish. That is, all surfaces are free from
dust, dirt, rust and grease. Lightly pressure wash
decksor exteriorsurfaces andensure thatthey are
dry before spraying.
•Even thoughthis sprayer hasvery little over-spray,
it is recommended that you mask all edges and
other areas and use drop cloths to protect your
floors and anything else in the spraying area that
you wish to remain untouched.
•Skin that forms on the top of paint can clog the
sprayer. Remove skin before mixing. Strain with a
funnel with a filter attached or through hosiery to
remove any impurities that could clog system.
•Before startinghave gloves,paper towels,rags etc.
available for unexpected spills.
ALIGNING THE PICKUP TUBE
See Fig. 5, 6
The Pickup Tube can be aligned in the direction that
you will be doing the most spraying to help minimize
the number of times that you will have to refill the
canister.
1. Unscrew the Canister from the Canister Lid.
2. Carefully pull off the Pickup Tube.
3. Turn the Spray Gun upside down and apply a few
drops of light oil into the
small
hole beside the

9
Pickup Tube inlet under the Lid. This helps keep
the Spray Gun parts lubricated and minimizes
clogging.
4. Push the Pickup Tube back into the Canister Lid.
-If you are spraying at an upward angle or
straight on, position the pickup tube (fig. 5)
toward the back of the canister.
-If you are spraying at a downward angle,
position the pickup tube (fig. 6) toward the
front of the canister.
This will ensure you spray as much material as
possible before you need to refill.
FILLING THE CANISTER
See Fig. 7
1. FilltheCanisterwithpaintofthecorrectviscosity,
then carefully screw the Canister back into the
Canister Lid. Securely tighten.
2. Clean any residual liquid from the threads or
sides of the canister and sprayer.
The easiest way to do this without spilling paint is to
leavethefullCanisterona flatsurface. Lift theSpray
Gun and carefully place the Pickup Tube into the
Canister. When the top of the Canister reaches the
Canister Lid, begin turning the Canister until it
screws into the Canister Lid. Securely tighten.
SPRAYER CONTROLS
SPRAY PATTERN ADJUSTMENT
See Fig. 8, 9, 10
To adjust the spray pattern, loosen the Tip Collar by
turning it counterclockwise (Fig. 8), then rotate the
Air Cap, then retighten the Tip Collar.
•For a vertical spray pattern, the "ears" of the
Spray Nozzle should be horizontal. Apply up and
down a surface (Fig. 9).
•For a horizontal pattern, the "ears" should be
vertical. Apply side to side (Fig. 10).
In other words, the position of the Spray Nozzle and
the spray pattern are at a 90° offset from one
another. Risk of injury. Never point the
sprayer at any part of the body.
Never pull the trigger while adjusting the spray
setting.
MATERIAL FLOW ADJUSTMENT
See Fig. 11
To control the amount of paint mixture being
sprayed, adjust the Adjusting Knob.
•Turning the Knob clockwise will increase the
amount of paint.
•Turning it counterclockwise will reduce the
amount of paint available.
Do not over-tighten the Knob, as
thiswillcutoffthepaintsupply,and
may damage the Spray Tip/Needle.
TIP: Always test the spray pattern on scrap
cardboard or similar material first. Begin with the
material adjustment knob on the highest flow setting
(clockwise to the end). If less flow is desired, dial the
material adjustment knob counterclockwise. Heavier,
thicker materials should be sprayed with the knob
dialed farther right. Thinner materials should be
sprayed with the knob dialed farther left.
SPRAY TIP & NEEDLE SELECTION
See Fig. 12
To change the Spray Tip and Needle: The Spray Tip
and Needle must both be the same size.
Check to make sure that they fit together properly
before installation. Typically, a larger Tip/Needle
would be required for thicker material.
1. Make certain that the unit is shut off, remove the
battery pack and clean before proceeding.
2. Loosen and remove the Tip Collar, Air Cap, and
Spray Tip. Be careful not to allow any parts to fall
out of the gun.
3. Loosen and remove the Needle.
4. Assemble the matching Spray Tip & Needle, Air
Cap, and Tip Collar.
5. The sprayer controls will require readjustment
after this procedure is complete.
NOTICE: The Spray Tip can only go in one way. The
notch on the Spray Tip must align with the recess in
the threads of the sprayer.
TIP: Always testthe spray patternon scrapcardboard
or similar material first. Start by selecting the Spray
Tip/Needle with the largest aperture(2.5mm). If
smaller atomized particles is desired, choose a small
kit. Heavier, thicker materials should be sprayed with
a large Spray Tip/needle. Thinner materials should be
sprayed with a small Spray Tip/Needle.

SPRAYING TECHNIQUE
•Practicespraying ona pieceof scrapmaterialsuch
as cardboard to test your spray pattern and
become familiar with the flow control feature of
the sprayer.
•Ensure surface to be sprayed is free of dust, dirt,
and grease.
•Ensure spray area is clean and free of dust that
could be blown onto newly sprayed surfaces.
•Cover any areas not intended to be sprayed.
•Alwayssprayfrom aminimum of1 inch(25mm) to
a maximum of 14 inches (355mm) (fig. 17).
•A commonly used method for spraying a large
surface is the "crisscross" pattern. This is done by
sprayingin horizontalstripsand then crossingover
these strips with vertical strips.
•To get an even spray distribution, always keep
your arm at the same distance (fig. 17) from the
surface you are spraying and avoid moving your
wrist (fig. 18).
•Maintain smooth and consistent speed which will
help avoid inconsistencies. Begin spraying after
the pass has begun and release trigger before
stopping the pass.
•Avoidspraying tooheavily inany onearea. Several
lighter coatsare betterthan one heavy coatwhich
can lead to running and dripping. Remember that
the flow control knob regulates the amount of
liquid that can be sprayed. Turning the flow knob
clockwise increases the flow of liquid. Turning the
knobcounterclockwise decreases theflow ofliquid.
If runs or drips do occur, have a dry paint brush on
hand to smooth them out.
•Remove the battery pack from the sprayer when
not spraying for any length of time.
CLEANING
