GENERAL INFORMATION

Because Mult glow F res bel eve n the use of modern technology and mater als, they
reserve the r ghts to mod fy or change the layout and controls of the r burner trays, at
anyt me, wh lst st ll comply ng w th current spec f cat ons.
Therefore these ‘ nstruct ons’ are a general gu de only and are not spec f cally n
compl ance w th the shape or s ze of your appl ance. These un ts must be nstalled n l ne
w th current ‘GAS SAFETY (INSTALLATION AND USE) REGULATION’ appl cable to the
country of use.
Warning
Only use the approved refractor es suppl ed w th th s appl ance.
NOTE: For the safe and eff c ent operat on of th s appl ance, t must be nstalled nl ne
w th current Br t sh Standard (BS 5871: PART 3) or the equ valent standard for
the country of use and take nto account the local and nat onal bu ld ng
regulat ons or bye-laws where necessary.
NOTE: Th s appl ance has been des gned for use w th NATURAL GAS only. Pr or to
nstallat on, ensure that the d str but on cond t ons ( dent f cat on of the type of
gas and pressure) and the adjustment of the appl ance are compat ble.

2. General Notes
The MULTIGLOW FUORI FIREBOX s a Decorat ve Fuel Effect (D.F.E.) pr mary aerated gas
f re, des gned to comply w th BS EN 509:2000 and s ntended for decorat ve use only. It
has been des gned to operate on NG gas only and must be f tted on a non-combust ble
hearth n a standard bu lders open ng, w th a ch mney n compl ance and sat sfy ng the
requ rements of BS 5871 – Part 3.
Th s appl ance conforms to the relevant Safety Standards but dur ng use, there are naked
flames and parts of the cas ng become hot.
Warning
If the appl ance s f tted w th a permanent guard (to BS 6778), no part of
the guard should be permanently removed so that access to the flame s
m n m zed, as t does not g ve full protect on for young ch ldren, the
elderly or the nf rm.
Th s appl ance s not f tted w th an ntegral guard. In normal use
cons derat on may be g ven to the use of a guard conform ng to BS 6678
or BS 6539 such that the access to the flame s m n m sed and for the
protect on of young ch ldren, the elderly or the nf rm.
NOTE: The larger of the un ts manufactured have gas of 33,000 BTU. Therefore, t s
essent al that the gas supply p pework be of a s ze that w ll allow for the correct
flow rate (see TECHNICAL DATA for requ red nformat on). Ideally, the 8mm
connect on p pe to the burner should be as short as poss ble and the max mum
length should not be greater than 1m. Also ensure that the solat ng tap does not
have a reduced bore.
RCF Advice:
Th s product may use components conta n ng Refractory Ceram c F bres (RCF), wh ch are
ma n-made v treous s l cate f bres. Excess ve exposure to the f ne dust of th s mater al
may cause rr tat on to eyes, sk n and resp ratory tract.
Therefore dur ng nstallat on and serv c ng we recommend that you use a HEPA f ltered
vacuum cleaner to remove any dust and soot accumulated n and around the f re before
and after work ng on the f re, to ensure that the release of f bres from these RCF art cles s
kept to a m n mum.
You should follow the normal hyg ene rules of not smok ng, eat ng or dr nk ng n the work
area.
When replac ng components conta n ng Refractory Ceram c F bres (RCF), we recommend
that the replaced tems are not broken up, but are sealed w th n heavy duty polythene
bags, clearly labelled as RCF waste and may be d sposed of n su tably l censed landf ll
s tes.
It should be noted that exposure to the f bres s unl kely n normal use.

2.1. Flue Spe ifi ations
The appl ance has been tested and approved w th a flue of 7” (177.8mm) d ameter and 5”
(127.0mm) d ameter. Please rev ew the techn cal spec f cat ons n Sect on 4.2 Model
Specific Technical Data for full deta ls of appl cable flue d ameters and lengths for each
model.
2.2. Ventilation Requirements
S zes 400 and 550 are rated below 7kW, therefore no vent s requ red f the flue flow for
the clearance of the products of combust on s correct. However, f sp llage s detected
us ng the method def ned for sp llage test, then add t onal vent lat on may be requ red.
All other appl ance s zes (7kW or over) w ll requ re purpose prov ded vent lat on n the
room where the appl ance s located, n accordance to the rules n force.
All vent lat on must comply w th the rules n force for the country n wh ch the appl ance s
f tted.
3. Important Notes
1) Do not cover vent lat on holes n top gr lle w th fuel bed.
2) The ch mney should be regularly checked to ensure that all products of combust on are
enter ng the flue and there s no excess ve bu ld up of soot.
3) Regularly nspect the purpose prov ded vent lat on to check that t s free from
obstruct on.
4) Th s appl ance s f tted w th an oxygen deplet on system wh ch shuts off the gas supply
f the oxygen level n the room s depleted, wh ch s caused a blocked or obstructed
ch mney.
5) If for any reason the f re shuts tself down, attempt to rel ght the appl ance by us ng
the startup procedure descr bed n Section 11 - Control Systems.
6) If the oxygen deplet on system cont nues to operate (and repeatedly shuts the
appl ance off) follow ng several restarts, call n a properly qual f ed nstallat on
eng neer.
7) There are no user replaceable parts, except the 4 h gh qual ty AA batter es, wh ch can
be changed by the end user.

5. Installation Pro edure
5.1. Contents Che klist

IMPORTANT: Before nstallat on, ensure that the local d str but on cond t ons ( dent f cat on
of gas type and pressure) and the adjustment of the appl ance are compat ble.
5.2. Flue Requirements
Ensure that the bu lders open ng, flue and hearth are constructed from non-combust ble
mater als, and conform to Nat onal Regulat ons.
The Fuor 400 & 550 F rebox appl ances requ re a m n mum flue d ameter of 125mm (or
equ valent area) and are used w th the open ng s zes as spec f ed n the Techn cal Data
sect on.
The Fuor 700 F rebox requ res a m n mum flue d ameter of 175mm (or equ valent area)
and s used w th the open ng s ze d mens ons as spec f ed n the Techn cal Data sect on.
The ch mney should be swept before appl ance s nstalled and a flue flow test, as
descr bed below, n accordance w th nat onal regulat ons should be carr ed out.
Flue Flow Test - Apply smoke match/pellet to the flue open ng at hearth level and observe
smoke. If there s a def n te flow n to the flue cont nue w th nstallat on. If not preheat
the flue for approx mately 10 m nutes and re-test. If there s st ll no flow the flue may
need attent on.
SEEK EXPERT ADVICE
Any flue damper plates or flue restr ctors must be removed, or f xed permanently n the
fully open pos t on.
It s mportant to ensure that only one appl ance s connected to the ch mney and t s
structurally sound, so that combust on products DO NOT enter any part of the bu ld ng.
The ch mney must be cont nuous from nlet to term nat on

5.3. Room Ventilation
The room vent lat on must be n accordance w th nat onal regulat ons. If n any doubt
about any vent lat on requ rements seek expert adv ce.
5.4. Applian e Lo ation
The Fuor F reboxes can be mounted on a hearth, shelf mounted or flush mounted for
hole- n-the wall appl cat ons. The bu lder’s open ng must be constructed of non-
combust ble mater al
5.5. Hearths
Mult glow F res recommends that a hearth s f tted wh ch conforms to nat onal regulat ons.
It must be constructed of be non-combust ble mater al and m n mum of 12mm th ck and
must project 150mm e ther s de of the burner and at least 300mm n front of the burner.
The hearth should not be less than 50mm above floor level. A fender of at least 50mm
he ght w ll sat sfy the requ rements of the nstallat on regulat ons (refer to BS5871: Part 2).
5.6. Hole-In-The-Wall Installations
If a hearth s not f tted, the f re must be nstalled so that the burner or ncandescent
mater al w ll be at least 225mm above the floor (refer to Document J of the Bu ld ng
Regulat ons).
5.7. Installation of the Applian e
IMPORTANT NOTES
An solat on valve must be f tted adjacent to the appl ance wh ch, when closed, allows
the complete burner and control assembly to be d sconnected for ma ntenance or
repa r n accordance w th nat onal regulat ons.
D rt and debr s n the gas system can block the valve and njectors, any fault caused
by th s are not covered by the guarantee
Do not use any jo nt ng compound on compress on f tt ngs as t can get nto the
control valve and cause t to fa l and vo d the guarantee.
The appl ance has been set and tested at the factory; however the Connect ons may
have been d sturbed n trans t or storage. Check that all gas connect ons are sound
before nstallat on.
In certa n w nd cond t ons downdraughts can be caused, wh ch w ll affect the
ch mney’s performance. It s recommended that a ch mney cowl s f tted that su table
for Decorat ve Fuel Effect Appl ances (D.F.E’s), wh ch conforms to nat onal regulat ons.
Th s appl ance s not f tted w th an ntegral guard. In normal use, cons derat on may
be g ven to the use of a guard that conforms to Nat onal Regulat ons so that access to
the naked flame s m n m zed.

It s recommended that a guard be f tted to prov de protect on for ch ldren, the
elderly, or nf rm. BS 8423-2002.
Th s appl ance s ntended for decorat ve purposes.
Use only parts suppl ed by Mult glow F res f any replacements are requ red
Hav ng ensured that the appl ance appl cat on s correct and flue requ rements,
vent lat on and the gas supply (pressure and type) are correct, proceed w th the
nstallat on as descr bed below.
For Wall switch control models, the wall sw tch may be f tted nto an appropr ately
s zed flush or surface mounted box. W r ng may then be run to where the rece ver
un t s located w th n the Fuor f rebox.
For Mains operated receiver models locate the transformer n a su table pos t on
(th s must not be under the f re) where t can be w red nto the ma ns electr c supply
and the low voltage lead connected to the rece ver wh ch s located w th n the Fuor
f rebox. Transformers must be connected to the ma ns supply n accordance to the
rules n force.
1) Place the Fuor F rebox, w th the p lot at the rear, and remove top gr lle.
2) Pass the gas supply p pe through the hole n the bottom of burner and connect t to
the test po nt elbow on the nlet at the r ght hand s de, ensure restr ctor screw n the
test po nt s fully open.
3) Carry out a gas soundness test n accordance w th nat onal nstallat on regulat ons.
4) Use the test po nt on the solator to check that the gas supply pressure s at the
correct work ng pressure of 20mbar w th the burner operat ng at full rate.
5.7.1. Remote Control (GV60)
1) The GV60 remote control comes pre-w red. When nstall ng make sure that the
gn t on cable and nfra-red sensor cable are kept apart by a m n mum of 20mm.
2) If using battery operated receiver: Insert 4 x 1.5v AA h gh qual ty Alkal ne,
L th um or N ckel oxy hydrox de batter es nto the rece ver.
3) If using mains operated receiver: Ensure that there are no batter es n the
rece ver un t, and then connect the transformer lead nto the power nlet socket of the
rece ver.
Warning
Us ng the ma ns transformer wh lst batter es are nstalled n the rece ver
un t may cause damage to both the batter es and the rece ver.
4) Place the rece ver un t nto pos t on.
5) Insert and connect 1 x 9v alkal ne battery nto the handset.

temperature of any electr cal or electron c component does not exceed 600
cent grade.
NOTE: In l ne w th the best eng neer ng codes and pract ces, t s essent al that the
electr cal w r ng s protected from acc dental damage. It s adv sed that the
flex ble cables are placed n a plast c tube or sheath espec ally where the w r ng
must pass through a wall or beh nd a f replace surround. All w r ng s tuated
below the burner should be placed so that the max mum clearance s obta ned
from any potent al hotspots.
5.7.2. Wall Switch Control (GV60)
1) The GV60 remote control rece ver un t comes pre-w red. When nstall ng make sure
that the gn t on cable and nfra-red sensor cable are kept apart by a m n mum of
20mm.
2) If using battery operated receiver: Insert 4 x 1.5v AA h gh qual ty Alkal ne,
L th um or N ckel oxy hydrox de batter es nto the rece ver.
3) If using mains operated receiver: Ensure that there are no batter es n the
rece ver un t, and then connect the transformer lead nto the power nlet socket of the
rece ver.

un t may cause damage to both the batter es and the rece ver.
4) Connect the lead from the wall sw tch nto the rece ver.
5) Place the rece ver un t nto pos t on.
6) If the handset s also requ red, nsert and connect 1 x 9v alkal ne battery nto the
handset.

5.8. Commissioning the Fire
IMPORTANT: CHECK FOR SPILLA E
A SPILLA E CHECK MUST BE MADE BEFORE THE INSTALLED APPLIANCE IS
HANDED OVER TO THE CUSTOMER
Th s test s to be carr ed out w th the appl ance completely nstalled and all doors and
w ndows closed n the room n wh ch the appl ance s f tted. Test for sp llage as descr bed
n the procedure below:
1) L ght the f re and set the control to max mum and leave for f ve (5) m nutes.
2) After f ve (5) m nutes, l ght a smoke match and pos t on flush w th f replace open ng, a
m n mum of 50mm (2”) from s de and a max mum of 50mm (2”) from top.
3) If the nstallat on s sat sfactory, smoke s drawn nto the ch mney and out of the
room. If th s does not happen then leave al ght for a further ten (10) m nutes and re-
check.
4) If smoke s st ll not drawn up the ch mney, turn off, d sconnect the appl ance and seek
expert adv ce.
NOTE: If there are extractor fans n the room or adjacent rooms, these must be runn ng
at full speed w th all nterconnect ng doors left open.
Warning
If the f re goes out under normal operat on and cont nues to go out after
rel ght ng, sp llage has occurred and the flue should be checked.
Warning
Th s appl ance s f tted w th an Oxygen Deplet on System, wh ch s
ncorporated nto the p lot gn t on un t. Therefore t s mportant that t
must not be adjusted or put out of operat on by the nstaller and must be
replaced w th a complete un t of or g nal manufacture n the event of
renewal.
5.9. Fuel Bed Installation
Refer to the appropr ate sect on w th n Section 10 n the Users Instructions, start ng
on Page 19 to lay out the fuel bed.

6. Fun tion Che ks
6.1. Lighting the Pilot and Main Burner
1) Turn on gas supply, purge the gas l ne and check all gas jo nts for gas soundness.
Us ng the nstruct ons n Section 11 for the appropr ate control system:
2) Ign te the p lot ( f appl cable).
3) L ght the ma n burner and leave on h gh for 10 m nutes.
4) Set the burner back to the low pos t on, where the flames should rema n al ght.
5) Turn the burner back to the p lot only pos t on ( f appl cable).
6) Turn the burner/p lot off and ensure the p lot ext ngu shes.
6.2. Che king the Referen e Pressure
The appl ance s preset to the g ven heat nput for the nlet pressure on the Data Plate. No
further adjustment should be necessary. However, the burner can be checked by f tt ng a
pressure gauge at the Test Po nt access ble to the left of the control valve. The pressure
should be checked w th the appl ance al ght and the control set at ‘HIGH’ after check ng
pressure, turn off appl ance, remove pressure gauge, replace test po nt seal and check gas
soundness.
6.3. Che king for Spillage
A SPILLAGE CHECK MUST BE MADE BEFORE THE INSTALLED APPLIANCE IS HANDED
OVER TO THE CUSTOMER.
Th s test s to be carr ed out w th the appl ance fully f tted and front grate n
pos t on.
a) Close all doors and w ndows of the room n wh ch the appl ance s f tted
b) L ght the f re and set control to max mum and leave for f ve m nutes.
After f ve m nutes l ght a smoke match and pos t on flush w th f replace open ng, a
m n mum of 50mm (2”) from s de and a max mum of 50mm (2”) from top.
The nstallat on s sat sfactory f the smoke s drawn nto the ch mney and out of the room.
If th s does not happen then leave al ght for a further (10) m nutes and check aga n

If f re goes out under normal operat on and cont nues to go out after
rel ght ng, has occurred and the flue should be checked.
Warning
a) The oxyp lot system shall not be adjusted by the nstaller.
b) The oxyp lot sp llage mon tor ng system shall not be put out of
operat on.
c) When the oxyp lot system s damaged or any of ts parts exchanged
only or g nal Manufacturer’s parts shall be used.
7. Commissioning
1) Check that the flue s adequate.
2) Ensure nstallat on s gas t ght.
3) Purge the nstallat on.
4) Check the gn t on system works correctly.
5) All controls operate correctly and freely.
6) Ensure that the burner pressure and gas rate are correct.
7) Any flame superv s on dev ces operate n the correct t me.
8) Carry out a sp llage test on the appl ance.
9) Clean area and ensure customer knows how to operate the appl ance.
10) Complete the follow ng sect on for f nal checks and handover to the customer.

8. Final Che k & Customer Briefing
1) Instruct the customer on the full operat on of the appl ance.
2) Recommend to the customer that a competent person should serv ce the appl ance
annually.
3) Recommend to the customer that on a yearly bas s the flue should be swept to ensure
that all products of combust on are enter ng the flue or canopy and that there s no
excess ve bu ld up of soot and that rubb sh should not be burnt on the f re or the fuel
bed be d sturbed.
4) Instruct the customer that the p lot and flame sens ng dev ce f tted to th s f re, also
acts as an atmospher c sens ng dev ce wh ch shuts off the appl ance f the evacuat on
of the products of the combust on s nterrupted.

7) Where t s necessary to remove the refractor es (fuel effect) for clean ng purposes,
th s must be done us ng a soft brush (do not use a vacuum cleaner). When replac ng
the refractor es, th s must be done as per the layouts n these nstruct ons. Under no
c rcumstances should the layout be changed or more refractor es added or taken off.

9.2. General Maintenan e
At yearly ntervals turn off and allow to cool down. Check all fuel, p lot burner/ gn t on
un t, for soot or debr s depos ts. These can cause mperfect flame appearance and should
be removed by l ghtly vacuum ng. Replace all m splaced coals/logs and rel ght.
NOTE: On the fa lure of e ther the p lot burner/ gn t on un t, or ma n control valve, have
repa rs carr ed out by a competent person.
9.3. Renewing Pilot Burner/Ignition Unit
1) Isolate the gas supply.
2) Remove all ceram cs and remove slotted vent plate surround ng the burner and store
n a safe place.
3) L ft out the burner not ng the front face and store n a safe place.
4) Undo and remove the thermocouple nut from the nterrupter block n the rear of the
control valve.
5) D sconnect and remove the p ezo gn t on w r ng from the gn t on electrode.
6) Undo and remove the 4mm gas supply p pe from the bottom of the p lot burner.
7) Undo the two screws hold ng p lot bracket n place.

8) Undo and remove 2x4mm locat ng nuts/screws on the p lot/ gn t on un t. Remove the
un t.
9) Replace w th new un t and reassemble n reverse order.
