TheGlobalPositionSystem(GPS)isasatellite‐basedsystemthatprovideslocationandtiming
informationaroundtheglobe.
GPSisoperatedandcontrolledunderthesoleresponsibilityoftheGovernmentoftheUnitedStates
ofAmerica,whoareresponsibleforitsavailabilityandaccuracy.AnychangesinGPSavailabilityand
accuracyorinenvironmentalconditions,mayaffecttheoperationofyourNavig8r.Wecannot
acceptanyliabilityfortheavailabilityoraccuracyofGPS.
Precautions
Foryoursafetyandthesafetyofotherroadusers,donotoperatethecontrolsofthisNavig8rwhile
driving.UsecarewhenoperatingtheNavig8r.Thisproductisintendedtobeusedonlyasanaidto
navigate.Itisnotintendedfortheprecisemeasurementofdirection,distance,orlocation
topography.
TheCalculatedroutesareforreferenceonly.Itistheuser’sresponsibilitytofollowalllocaltraffic
regulationsandtrafficsignswhendriving.Localconditionsandregulationsmaychangeatshort
noticeandmaynotbeincludedinthesoftware/mappingdataofthisproduct.
Whenleavingyourvehicle,donotleavetheNavig8ronthedashboardofthecar.Itshouldbe
removedandplacedinasecureplacealongwiththewindscreenmountandpowercable.Donot
leavetheNavig8rindirectsunlightwhennotdrivingthevehicle.Overheatingofthebatterymay
causedamageorcausetheNavig8rtomalfunction.Extremeoverheatingmaycausethebatteryto
leak.
GPSsatellitesignalscannotpassthroughsolidmaterialswiththeexceptionofglass.When
travellingthroughtunnelsorinsidebuildings,suchasparkingstations,GPSpositioningisnot
available.ThetimetakenfortheNavig8rtore‐acquiresatellitesignalswhenemergingfromtunnels
orbuildingsmayvaryandwilldependonatmosphericconditionsandtheenvironment.
AminimumoffourGPSsatellitesignalsisrequiredtodeterminetheNavig8rscurrentlocation.
Signalreceptioncanbeaffectedbyatmosphericconditionssuchas;badweather,thickclouds,solar
activityanddenseoverheadobjectssuchastrees,tallbuildingsandlargeroadsigns.Wireless
devicescanalsointerferewithsatellitereception.
TheuseofdeviceswithaGPSantennaisprohibitedonmostaircraft,hospitalsandotherlocations
thatcontainsensitiveequipment.TheNavig8rshouldnotbeusedintheseenvironments.

ThisNavig8rGPSshouldnotbeusedinconditionsofhightemperature,highhumidityordusty
conditions.WerecommendthattheNavig8risnotleftindirectsunlightforextendedperiodsorleft
fittedtothewindscreen,dashboardorglovebox.
ProlongedexposuretohightemperaturesmaycausetheNavig8rtomalfunctionandmayeven
causepermanentdamagetotheNavig8r.
Therearenouserserviceablepartsinthisdevice.Openingthedevicemaycauseharmanddamage
thedevice.Anyattempttodisassemblethisdevicewillvoidthewarranty.
Images,screenshotsandfeaturesshowninthismanualmayvaryslightlyfromtheactualproduct.

BeforeUsingYourNavig8rGPSUnit
Pleasecheckthecontentsofthepackagingandensurethatallequipmentislocatedandidentified.
Theprotectivescreencovermaybeleftonthedevicebutmayimpedetheviewingofthedevicein
normaloperation.
ConnecttheNavig8rGPSunittopowersourceforaperiodof24hoursinthefirstinstancetocharge
andconditionthebattery.Itmaytakeseveralcharge/dischargecyclesforthedevicetoreachpeak
endurance.Thechargingprocesswilltakelongerifthedeviceisturnedon.
Subsequentchargingshouldtakelesstimetocomplete.
ThisGPScanonlybechargedfromthePCUSBportwhentheNavig8risturnedOFF.
OncetheinitialchargehasbeencompletedturntheGPSdeviceon.TheNavig8rshouldlaunchthe
Navigationsoftware.
ToturnthedeviceoffforshortperiodssimplyremovetheNavig8rfromitspowersupply(orturn
theignitionoff).IfthenavigationsoftwareisrunningtheNavig8rwilldetectthepoweroffandplace
itselfinsleepmode.WhenthepoweristurnedbackonagaintheNavig8rwillstartatthelastscreen
shown.
TheGPSwillcontinuetodrawpowerfromthebatteryinsleepmodeandwillgoflatafter24to36
hours.
ToturntheGPSoffmanuallyorifthedeviceisnottobeusedforperiodslongerthantwoorthree
days,simplypressthepowerbuttonfor3secondsandthentaptheshutdownoptionorcancelto
returntothepreviousscreen.

IfnooptionisselectedtheNavig8rwillturnoffafter15seconds.
PriortousingtheGPSsystemforthefirsttime,itisrecommendedthatthetouchscreenbe
calibrated.Pleaseseethesystemsettinginstructionsfurtheroninthismanual.
MountingtheGPSUnitinYourVehicle
FitthewindscreenmounttotheholderwhichyouhaveattachedtotherearoftheGPSunitandtest
mounttheGPSonthewindscreenofthecar.Chooseapositionthatwillnotobstructyourvision
whilstdrivingbutwillalsoprovidetheGPSunitthebestcoverageoftheskythroughthewindscreen.
Loosenthetwoknobsonthemounttoallowmovementofthepivotpoints.
TheNavig8rshouldonlybefittedonfixedwindows.
Oncethebestlocationhasbeendetermined,removetheprotectivefilmfromthesuctioncapofthe
windscreenmountand,oncleanglass,fitfirmlyagainstthewindscreen.Pushthetablocatedonthe
topofthesuctioncuptowardsthewindscreenuntilitlocksinplace.Forbestresultsitis
recommendedthatthesuctioncupbemoistenedbeforefitting.
InanormaldrivingpositionadjusttheGPStoapositionthatwillbeinviewwhilstdrivinganddoes
notobstructyourviewoftheroad.Oncethecorrectpositionhasbeenfoundtightenthetwoknobs
onthemounttopreventtheGPSmovingfromvibration.Donotovertightentheseknobs.
Changesintemperaturesandcondensationmaycausethesuctioncuptobecomelooseandshould
becheckedonaregularbasis.Toavoiddamageortheft,theGPSshouldnotbeleftonthe
windscreenmountovernight.
Toremovethemountfromthewindscreen,takeholdofthemountinonehandandusetheother
topullthetabawayfromthemount.Locatetheplastictabonthesideofthesuctioncupandgently
pullawayfromthewindscreentobreaktheseal.
N.B:TintedwindowsmayimpedetheNavig8rsabilitytodetecttheGPSsatellitescorrectly.
ConnectingtheCarCharger
Caution:ToprotecttheGPSagainstthepossibilityofdamagecausedbypowersurgeswhenthe
vehicleisstarted,thechargershouldnotbeconnectedtotheGPSdevicewhenthevehicleisstarted.
Thecarchargersuppliespowertothedevicewhenitisbeingusedinthevehicle.
ConnecttheUSBplugtotheUSBsocketoftheGPSandthenfittheotherendintothe
cigarette/poweroutletofyourvehicleoncethevehiclehasbeenstarted.

ThechargelightindicatorontheGPSshouldglowwhenconnectedtopower.
TheGPScannowbestartedbypressingthepowerbuttonontopofthedeviceforabout3seconds.
WhenstartingtheGPSinthevehicleitmaytakeashortperiodoftimeforthesystemtoacquirea
validGPSsignal.PleasemakesurethattheGPSunithasaclearviewoftheskyandisnotimpeded
bytrees,awnings,carportsorsimilarobstructions.

ensurethatthevehicleisdriveninasafemannerincompliancewiththeselaws.
InmoststatesitisillegaltooperateaGPSsystemwhiledrivingavehicle.Whenentering
informationintotheGPS,pleasepulloversafelytothesideoftheroadbeforeusingthisdevice.Itis
bettertosetthedestinationfortheGPSbeforeyoustartonyourtripratherthantryingtoenterit
onthemove.
WhenpositioningtheGPSsystemonthewindscreenofyourvehicle,makesurethatitisplacedina
positionthatprovidesaclearviewoftheroadaheadandensurethedriverdoesnothavetolook
awayfromtheroadtocheckthescreen.
Pleasereadthehardwaresectiontoensurethatallaccessoriescanbeidentifiedandyoucan
assemblethenavig8rGPS.Alsopleasereadthesectionon“MountingtheGPSunitinyourvehicle”
inthehardwaresectiontoensurethattheNavig8rismountedsafelyandsecurely.
ThefirsttimetheGPSunitisused,orithasnotbeenusedforsometime,itmaytakesomeseveral
minutesforittodetecttheGPSsatellites.Restartingthesysteminthesamelocationshouldacquire
thesignalsquickly.

A:TollRoad:Whenselected(asshown)willallowthesystemtocalculatetheroutealong
tollsroadsbetweenthecurrentandselecteddestination.
B:QuickestRoute:Calculatestherouteforthequickestjourney.Thisoptionmaybelonger
butshouldtakelesstime.
C:ShortestRoute:Calculatestheroutefortheshortestdistancebetweencurrentlocation
anddestination.Eventhoughthedistancemaybeshorter,thejourneymaytakelonger
dependingontheassignedspeedlimitsfortheroadstravelled.
D:FullRecalc:ForcestheNavig8rtorecalculatethefullroutefromyourcurrentlocation
tothedestinationaddress.Thisfeatureisusefulifyoudecidetomakeasidetripfromyour
calculatedroute.Theinbuilt“returntoroute”featurewillalwaystrytoreturnyoutothe
calculatedrouteifyoumissaturn.The“FullRecalc”optionallowsforthefullrecalculation
toensurethatthebestroutefromyourcurrentlocationisused.
E:Detour:Usethisoptiontofindawayaroundanaccidentorroadworks.Detourwillwork
outanalternativeroutefromthecalculatedroutefor500meters,1Kilometre,3Kilometres
or5Kilometresandthenreturntotheoriginalroute.Forlongerdetoursitisrecommend
thatthe5Kilometreoptionisusedandthenusethe“FullRecalc”optionasthisshould
recalculatethebestroutefromyounewlocation.

F:RoutePause:The“RoutePause”optionallowsyoutopausetheGPSunitifyoudecideto
makeaminordetourofftheroadbuthavenotmissedaturn.Ifduringyourtripyouwishto

TheGPSsignalstatusiconisdisplayedinallmodesTheNavig8rrequiresvalidsignalsfromatleast5
satellitestodetermineyourcurrentlocationaccuratelyandtobeabletocalculateroutes.
IfshowninRED,noSatellitesarebeingdetectedandthelocationshownonscreenmay
notbetheactuallocationoftheGPSunit,butthelastlocationfortheNavig8rthatit
detectedvalidsatellitesignals.Notripscanbecalculateduntil5ormoresatellitesare
detected.

Altitude:ShowsthecurrentaltitudeinmetersabovesealeveloftheNavig8rGPSsystemas
calculatedfromthesatellitesignals.
Precision:Thelowerthenumber,themoreaccuratethedatafromtheGPSsatellitesis.
TapontheBackorMapbuttonstoreturntothemainmapscreen
IfshowninAMBER,lessthan5validsatellitesignalsarebeingreceived.Lessthan5
satellitesignalsdonotprovideenoughaccuratedatafortheGPSunit.Ifthesignal

Whenstationary,youcanzoominandoutofthemapscreentodisplayagreaterorlessareathanis
currentlybeingdisplayed.Thisisusefulwhenstoppedtogetamoredetailedlookatthearea
aroundyourcurrentlocation.
NotalllevelsofZoomareavailableatalltimes.Thisensuresthatthethereisnottoomuchdetailon
thescreenforthedrivertotakeinwhileincontrolofamotorvehicle.
TheZoomlevelcanbesetbythedrivertoalevelthattheyfeelcomfortablewithandseeclearly
whistdriving.
Whenitisnotpossibletoeitherzoominoroutofthemap,thesebuttonswillnotbeshownonthe
screenorwillbedisplayedveryfaintly.
8:SpeedandRedLightCameraAlert
TheseiconsaredisplayedwhenaknownRedLightorFixedSpeedcameraiswithin250
metersofyourcurrentlocation.AlongwiththeIcondisplayedonthescreenthesound
ofacamerashuttershouldalsobeheardwhentheiconisfirstshown.(Thesoundcan
beturnedon/offthroughtheTripOptionsmenu.)Theiconofthecameraisalsoshown
onthemaptoindicatethegenerallocationofthecamera.(Pleaseseenumber16)
