Installation
Before starting the installation, ake sure your broadband Internet
access device is powered on and connected to the internet. (Check your
Internet service provider’s docu entation). To view the installation
video go to www.nextalar .co /resources/videos.
1. Connect the ABN4A to a ho e router or network. Connect the
supplied Ethernet cable into the WAN port on the ABN4A and
connect the other end into an available LAN port on your router or
ho e network.
NOTE For easier installation you can use an Ethernet-to-WiFi
Bridge or an Ethernet-to-Powerline Network Adapter to avoid
running a long Ethernet cable to your router. You can find these
devices in your local retail electronics store or online.
2. If your alarm system siren sounds during this step, simply disarm
the system as you normally do. Locate the alar syste 's
telephone connection. This is usually an RJ31X (wide Ethernet-
style) or RJ11 (standard size) telephone jack, next to or inside the
ain control box. There will be a telephone cord connecting the
alar syste to the jack. If your alar syste is wired directly to
your telephone line and does not have a phone jack, then you will
need to have one installed before you can use the ABN adapter.
a. If your syste is using an RJ11 cord, plug that into the ALARM
port on the ABN4A.
b. If your syste uses an RJ31X cord, then use the supplied
RJ31X to RJ11 adapter to connect it to the ALARM port on the
ABN4A.
3. Use the supplied USB cable to connect to the PWR port on the
ABN4A, and then attach the other end of the black USB cable
tothe AC/DC Adapter. Plug the AC/DC Adapter into an AC power
outlet.
4. Confir the power LED light (PWR) is green, wait for the WAN LED
light to then turn solid green or yellow. Finally, you should see a
solid green ALARM LED light displayed

Troubleshooting
Environments with VoIP phone service
If an existing VoIP adapter is connected directly to a single port cable or
DSL ode , then disconnect it, and connect it to a ho e router
instead. The router should be the only device connected directly to the
cable or DSL ode . If your VoIP phone service no longer works after
doing this, then your VoIP service provider will need to assist you in
reconfiguring your VoIP device to work with a ho e router.
Check that all wires are connected and secure.
Unplug then plug back in the power cord, Ethernet cord, and alar
panel cord. Make sure that the Ethernet cord is plugged between an
open Ethernet port on your router or wireless bridge and the WAN
port, and that the alar panel cord is connected between the ALARM
jack and the phone jack on your alar syste .
If you have assigned a static IP address to the ABN4A, make sure the
address is not already in use.
By default, the ABN4A auto atically requests an IP address via DHCP.
In ost cases, we reco end allowing the router to assignIP address
via DHCP. In so e unusual network configurations, it ay be necessary
to set the ABN4A to use a static IP instead. If two devices on your
network have the sa e IP address, then both devices will frequently
lose their connection to the Internet. If you have assigned a static IP
addressto your ABN4A, and you believe another device has the sa e IP
address, then change the IP address of the ABN4A. Every device on
your network should have its own unique IP address.
Update the router firmware.
It is i portant that the ho e router is using the latest fir ware
provided by its anufacturer. Router fir ware can usually be
downloaded fro the anufacturer’s website, and installed using the
router’s web interface. Please contact the router anufacturer for
assistance in updating its fir ware, if needed.
Are there two routers?
If there are two routers connected to the network, then so e devices
will have trouble staying connected to the Internet. To fix this, turn off
routing (DHCP) on the router that is not connected directly to your
cable or DSL ode . Only one router should give IP addresses to
devices on the network.
Are you using a wireless bridge?
Wireless Ethernet bridges can ake installing the ABN4A easy by
eli inating the need to use an Ethernet cable to connect to the ho e
router. However, if they do not have a good wireless signal or are not
correctly configured, then they can cause connection proble s.
