Features That Can Be Set Using the Multi Selector
Using the Self-timer
Tile camera is equipped with a self-timer that releases tile shutter ten or two
seconds after you press tile shutter-release Button. Tile self-timer is useful when
you want to be in tile picture you are taking, and when you want to avoid tile
effects of camera shake that occur when you press tile shutter-release Button.
When using tile self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Set Vibration
reduction to Off in tile setup menu (_ 94) when using a tripod to stabilize tile
camera during shooting.

2Use the multi selector to select los or 2s and
press the _) button.
• 10s (ten seconds): Use on important occasions, such as
weddings.
•2s (two seconds): Use to prevent camera shake.
• When _ isselected, the camera uses face detection to
detect a human face, and then automatically releases
the shutter when a smile isdetected ([_ 61).
• When the shooting mode is set to Pet portrait scene mode, I_i (pet portrait auto
release) is displayed; when set to continuous shooting mode, _ (smile timer
continuous) is displayed ([_ 43, 61).The self-timer settings lOs and 2s cannot be
used.
• The mode selected for self-timer is displayed.
• Ifa setting is not applied by pressing the_) button within a few seconds, the
selection will be canceled.

Using the Smile Timer, Smile Timer Continuous
When tile camera detects a person's smile, it automatically releases tile shutter;
you do not need to press the shutter-release button.
• Smile timer: Images are captured one at a time. This feature can be used when
shooting mode (_ 24) is set to I_1(auto) mode or the Portrait or Night
portrait scene mode (_ 39).
• Smile timer continuous: Acontinuous series of images iscaptured. This feature
(:an be used when shooting mode (_ 24) is set to continuous shooting mode
(1_ 50).

3Frame the picture and wait for the subject to _ ,_
smile. _
• When the camera detects a human face, a double
border (focus area) is displayed around that face. When
the camera has focused on that face, the double
border will turn green for a moment and focus is
locked.
• Up to three faces can be detected. When the camera detects more than one face, the
double border (focus area) is displayed around the face closest to the center of the
frame, and single borders around the others.
• When using smile timer:
- If the camera detects that the face framed by the double border is smiling, the
shutter is automatically released.
- After the camera releases the shutter, it will continue to detect faces and smiles, and
will release the shutter again if it detects a smiling face.
- To end automatic shooting by smile detection, set the smile timer to OFF.
• When using smile timer continuous:
- The _ icon is displayed in the shooting screen.
- If the camera detects that the face framed by the double border is smiling, the
shutter is automatically released and up to five images are captured at a rate of
about 3 fps.
- The camera will continue to detect faces and smiles until continuous shooting
ends, and will capture images continuously again if it detects a smiling face. To
finish, set the smile continuous timer to OFF.

• Digital zoom cannot be used,
• Under some shooting conditions, the camera may be unable to detect faces or detect smiles,

[] Auto Power Off When Using Smile Timer, Smile Timer Continuous
The auto off function (_ 95) is activated and the camera turns off when either of the situations
indicated below persists and no other operations are performed.
• The camera does not detect any faces.
• The camera detected a face, but cannot detect a smile.
[] When the Self-timer Lamp Blinks
The self timer lamp blinks slowly when the camera detects a _ce, and blinks quickly immediately
after the shutter is released.
[] Releasing the Shutter Manually
Pictures can also be taken by pressing the shutter release button, The camera focuses on the subject
in the center of the frame when faces are not detected.

Using Macro Mode
When using macro mode, tile camera can focus on objects as close as 1 cm
(0.4 in.) from the front of the lens.
Thisfeature is usefulwhen taking close-up pictures of flowers and other small subjects.
1 Press the multi selector • (_ macro mode).
2Use the multi selector to select ON and press ......

• The macro mode icon (_) is displayed.
• If a setting is not applied by pressing the 000000°_)button
within a few seconds, the selection will be canceled.
3Rotatethe zoom control to the zoom position __
at which _ and the zoom indicator glow green.
• How close you can be to the subject when shooting
depends on the zoom ratio.
When the zoom is set to a position where _ and the
zoom indicator glow green, the camera can focus on subjects as close as 10 cm (4 in.)
from the lens.
When the zoom ratio is wider than/'_, the camera can focus on subjects as close as
I cm (0.4 in.) from the lens.
_1_ Notes About Using the Flash
The flash may be unable to light entire subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft 8 in.) from the camera.
[] Autofocus
When using macro mode in I_1 (auto) mode or continuous shooting mode, you can focus without
pressing the shutter release button halfway by setting Autofocus mode (_ 38) in the shooting
menu (_ 37) to Full-time AF.
When using other shooting modes, Full-time AF is turned on automatically when macro mode is
turned on (except when using _ (pet portrait)).
You may hear the sound of the camera focusing.

• Macro mode cannot be used when using certain shooting modes. See "Default Settings" (_ 69)
for more information.
• I_1 (auto) mode and continuous shooting mode share the same macro mode setting. When using
I_1 (auto) mode or continuous shooting mode, the macro mode setting is saved in the camera's
memory even if the camera is turned off.

Adjusting Brightness (Exposure Compensation), Vividness,
and Hue (Creative Slider)
When tile shooting mode (_ 24) is set to I_ (auto) mode (_ 36) or continuous
shooting mode (_ SO),use tile creative slider to adjust brightness (exposure
compensation), vividness, and hue for taking pictures.
