PowerMic™II Quick Reference Guide
The PowerMic™II has full plug and play capability.
To install the PowerMic II on your PC:
1. Plug the PowerMic II into a USB port on your PC.
2. If the Found New Hardware Wizard opens:
• Click Cancel if you have not yet installed your Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions speech-
recognition software. You should not search for any drivers on the Internet.
• Click Next and proceed through the Wizard to install the microphone drivers on your PC
if you have already installed your Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions software.
You can begin using your PowerMic II immediately.
The mouse buttons on the PowerMic II, along with the pointing device, function as a standard
Windows mouse and can be adjusted through the Windows Control Panel. To do so, select Start >
Settings > Control Panel > Mouse.
We recommend that you do not modify the right-handed/left-handed orientation of your mouse. The
trigger on the back of the PowerMic II functions like the left mouse button when your mouse is set
for right-handed orientation (the standard Windows default).

PowerMic™II Functionality
Button Name/Function
Microphone
Talk into the microphone on the PowerMic II.
Trans c ribe
Press to end your current dictation and display the
dictated text.
When editing your report, press this button to position
the insertion point or select a sentence.
Dictate
Press to begin recording your report.
Tab Backward
Press to move to the previous field in a template or
dialog box.
When you stop dictating, press this button to end the
dictation and display your dictated text.
Tab Forward
Press to move to the next field in a template or dialog
box.
When you stop dictating, press this button to end the
dictation and display your dictated text.
Rewind
Press to rewind the recorded audio.
Fast Forward
Press to fast forward through your recorded audio.
Stop/Play
Press to start or stop audio playback.

PowerMic™II Functionality

Enter/Select
Press to activate the default action.
Customizable Buttons
Customize these two buttons for your dictating and editing use. Please refer to the user
guide or online Help for your Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions product to learn how this
button functions.
Left Mouse/Right Mouse Buttons
Use these buttons in the same way you use the buttons on your mouse.
Pointing Device
Use this button to position the insertion point and select objects as you would with the
mouse.
Scan
For a microphone with a scanner, press this button and use the scanner to scan an MRN,
accession number, or other barcode.
For a microphone without a scanner, please refer to the user guide or online Help for
your Dictaphone Healthcare Solutions product to learn how this button functions.
Trigge r
Use the trigger on the back of the PowerMic II in the same way you use the left mouse
button.

When the scanner on your microphone is used to scan a barcode (MRN, accession number, order
number, or any other barcode), it beeps to indicate that the scan was successful.
To turn the beep off if you do not want to hear it after a successful barcode scan, scan this barcode.
To turn the beep back on, scan this barcode.
