SPECIFIC SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
AND WARNINGS
1. Never use the engine stand for any purpose other than the
information in this manual.
2. Verify that the product and application are compatible, if in doubt
call OEMTOOLS®at 1-866-458-2472.
3. Before using this product, read the operator’s manual completely
and familiarize yourself thoroughly with the product, its
components and recognize the hazards associated with its use.
4.
Wear appropriate safety gear, including heavy-duty work gloves and
ANSI-approved safety goggles during use.
5. DO NOT exceed the weight capacity of the engine stand. Make
sure weight is evenly distributed. Be aware of dynamic loading.
Sudden load movement may briefly create excess load causing
product failure. Exceeding the maximum capacity for this product is
dangerous and can lead to serious injury or property damage.
6. Always evaluate your task before using this engine stand. Use only
as intended.
7. Use only on a hard, level and flat surface capable of bearing the
combined weight of the engine stand, load being lifted, the operator
and any tools being used.
WARNING:Never load the engine stand with an engine that
extends beyond the centerlines of the front and rear wheel/caster
axles.
8. If you are working and the load becomes off-balance and/or the
engine stand begins to tip over, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CATCH
OR LIFT THE LOAD WHEN FALLING. SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY
CAN RESULT. In this event, clear the area as quickly and safely as
possible in order to avoid injury from the falling load, including
getting hit with flying fragments.
9. Before each use, inspect the general condition of the engine stand.
If a problem occurs, have the problem corrected before further use.
WARNING:To prevent serious injury, DO NOT use a damaged
or malfunctioning engine stand.
10. If in doubt about the safety of your project, we advise you to have
the work done by a professional familiar with applicable safety
practices.
ASSEMBLY
1. Attach the back 4 casters (#34 and #36) to the chassis.
2. Attach the front 2 casters (#34) to the chassis.
3. Assemble the parts together in STEP 1 and STEP 2.
4. Assemble the fingers (#17) and gear box (#8).
5. Assemble all the parts together and tighten all the bolts and nuts.
NOTE:Check all fasteners. Tighten where required.
OPERATION
1. Consult the vehicle or engine manufacturer for service manuals
and/or technical bulletins that provide information on suggested
engine mounting tips, proper size and type mounting bolts and
the engine’s center of balance. The engine’s center of balance will
have to be aligned with the rotational axis of the engine stand’s
mounting head assembly.
2. Drain oil and coolant and remove clutch bell housing and flywheel
from engine before mounting. Attach an engine lifting bar or sling
to the engine and secure the bar or sling to a shop crane or hoist.
Slowly lift the engine from its compartment making sure no other
vehicle components, wires or hoses obstruct the free movement of
the engine. Raise the engine high enough so its center of balance is
close to the rotational axis of the stand’s mounting head.
3. M
ake sure, the four mounting head fingers are loosely connected
to the mounting head plate. Secure the four mounting head fingers
to the bell housing end of the engine with the appropriate bolts and
washers. Reposition the mounting head, fingers and engine so the
engine’s center of balance is within one inch of the mounting head’s
rotational axis. Tighten all bolts to a sufficient torque requirement
that prevents any slippage.
4. Slowly lower the crane or hoist so the engine stand supports full
weight of the engine. To check engine balance and secure setup
of the engine to the stand, slowly rotate the engine by turning the
gear crank handle. If balance or setup are not stable, rotate the
engine to its original position, raise the crane or hoist so the weight
of the engine is removed from the stand and make the correct
adjustments. After adjustments are made, tighten all bolts. This
adjustment procedure may have to be duplicated several times
until correct. After the setup is balanced and secure, the lifting bar
or sling can be removed from crane or hoist.
5. To remove the engine from the stand, connect the lifting bar or
sling to the crane or hoist and raise the engine high enough to take
the weight off the stand. Carefully remove the bolts that connect
the four mounting fingers to the engine. Be aware there will be a
slight movement of stand as total engine weight is transferred to
crane or hoist.
6. This engine stand has a folding feature that can save space or
make storage easy. Just remove the pins (#37) and (#38) so the 2
feet can be folded up vertically. The pins and clips can be stored in
the open holes
CAUTION: Use only the handle provided by the manufacturer.
The handle provided with this stand will safely engage and operate
the head plate. If the handle is worn, bent or otherwise damaged,
STOP and discontinue use of the stand until a factory replacement
handle assembly can be acquired.
CAUTION:Use caution when troubleshooting a malfunctioning
engine stand. Stay well clear of the supported load. Completely resolve
all problems before use. If the engine stand is malfunctioning, have a
qualified technician inspect and repair the engine stand before use.
MAINTENANCE
A periodic coating of light lubricating oil to pivot points, adjusting
points, casters, etc. will help to prevent rust and assure that all
components move freely.
FOLD FOR STORAGE
1. Remove the cotter pin (#38) and pin (#37) from the forward most
position of the leg (#39).
2. Carefully and slowly fold the leg (#39) up.
WARNING:Pinch hazard. Be mindful of where you place your
hands, fingers or feet when raising or lowering the legs.
3. Slide pin (#37) into the front hole of the chassis (#32) and secure it
with the cotter pin (#38).
4. Repeat for the other leg.
