Creatinga TruckRouting Profile
Truck Safe Navigation allows you to customize and save multiple routing profiles for your
vehicle. Setting the profile correctly and selecting the right profile for the trip is essential to
successful routing and is easily done in a few steps. Always confirm your truck profile
before departing to ensure the best navigation route.
From the main menu select:
•Route > Trucking Routing Profile
This will pull up a screen with the following customizable options:
•Truck Dimensions
•Hazmat Routing
•Display Restrictions
•Toll Roads
•Custom Roads & Speeds
•National Network
•53-ft Trailer
•Override Restrictions
•International Borders Open

!

•Max Height
•Total Length
•Max Width
•Total Weight
•Total Weight/Axle
Hazmat Routing
Truck Safe Navigation routing can be further customized to take into account the
transportation of hazardous materials. Select one or all from the following categories:
•Explosives

Toll Roads
Choose to route with or to avoid toll roads in your truck profile. Choose from:
•Always Avoid
•Avoid if Possible
•Use
Customize Roads & Speeds
This feature allows for the favoring of certain road types and is further enhanced with the
ability to select the maximum speed for each road type. Truck Safe Navigation uses the
defined average road speeds that are used to calculate ETAs.
It is highly recommended to consult your fleet manager before modifying these settings.
You can choose to Avoid or Favor the following road types:
•Freeways
•Divided Highways
•Primary Roads
•Secondary Roads
•Local Streets

!
19!|!Page!
!
Additional Routing Options:
•National Network/53ft Trailer - The National Network is a federally approved system of roadways for tractor-trailer use put into effect
from The Surface Transportation Assistance Act of 1982. States were given the ability to extend this approved roadway beyond the
federally recognized system as well. Selecting these options ensures your route will adhere to the National Network of roadways and
the state extensions and is highly recommended for most fleets, particularly those with 53’ or double 28’ trailers.
•Override Restrictions - Designed for those instances when Truck Safe Navigation may be used for regular car-based navigation. This
option allows restoration of neutral settings without losing current or other trucking profiles.
•International Borders Open - This will allow travel between countries as an acceptable navigation solution. For example, routing between
Buffalo, NY and Detroit, MI will route through Canada as it is shorter while this option is checked. If it is not selected, you would be routed
south through Ohio around Lake Erie.
•Practical v. Shortest - Practical navigation takes road classes and other concerns into route calculation for an optimal balance between
distance, time, and safety. Typically, Practical is the recommended selection. Shortest navigation will evaluate truck acceptable roadways
and provide the smallest distance between your destinations.
Medium (Mid-Size) Duty Trucking:
This option is available for when your fleet has vehicles that do not require the same physical constraints that tractor-trailers use but are still
held to commercial vehicle restrictions for routing.
