(Note: - The tide time is calculated by basing on the data that the period over which the
two complete cycles are experienced is 24 hours and 50 minutes and 47 seconds”)
If you want to set a tide time for a different location, then the first thing that must be
done is to enter the tide function (using [MODE]) and change to the location required
using [START/STOP].
Then proceed to alter that location’s information in the same way as described above.
Tide Predictor Graph (Not found on all models)
Whichever tide location is chosen in the tide mode will be the subject of the tide graph
shown in the dot matrix display during normal time mode and timer mode. After initially
showing the word TIME or TIMER 9for about 2 seconds) to show which mode you are in,
the tide graph will then appear in the dot matrix. The column of the graph just left of
centre in the dot matrix flashes every second. This represents the current time and shows
the current tide state for the location shown just to the left of the dot matrix. If the
flashing area is right to the top of the dot matrix it is high tide, and if it flashes near the
bottom of the dot matrix then it is low tide. In between it will be possible to see if the tide
is coming in or going out.
Compass Mode (Not found on all models)
Enter the Compass Mode using [MODE]. The display will show “COMP”. Meanwhile,
bearing measurement starts.
About two seconds later, the display will show one of the 16 classified directions as
defined below. In order to minimize power consumption, the bearing measurement will
last for 30 seconds only. If you want to extend the measurement duration to 3 minutes,
press and hold [START/STOP] for 3 seconds. A beep will be heard when you first press
[START/STOP], then 3 seconds later another beep confirms your selection. Then the unit
will exit from Compass mode automatically and go back to Real Time Clock mode after 3
minutes. If you wish to return to another mode at any time press [MODE] and the 3
minute period will be cancelled.
If distortion is detected or there is time-out error, the display will show “FAIL!” on the
upper LCD.
Setting starts with year digits. Adjust the year digits by pressing [PROG]. Then press
[MODE] to move to the next items. The setting sequence is in the order of year, month,
date, hour and minute. Adjust each one using the [PROG] button Fast setting is also
available by holding the [PROG] button in.
At the end of setting, press [CLEAR] once again to exit from setting mode and back to
tide time display. The tide level chart for the time on display will be re-estimated basing
on the newly entered high tide time.
To View the tide time at any designated date
For example, in January 1, 2005,
1st high time is at 12:30 05 am
1st low tide time is at 6:42 42 am
2nd high tide time is at 12:55 19 pm, and
2nd low tide time is at 7:07 56 pm.
Say, the display is now showing the first high tide.
Press [SYNC] to scroll through other tide times. The next shown will be a low tide, then
the next high tide, then the next low tide etc. As the days advance so the date will change
Or if you want to view the tide times on other days quickly, you can press and hold
[SYNC] for 2 seconds to activate date scrolling, or month scrolling, or year scrolling. The
scrolling will start with date scrolling and you can see the date digits on flashing. Press
[PROG] to advance the date and the corresponding tide times will be updated instantly on
the middle line. To move to month scrolling or year scrolling, press [MODE]. The order is
in the sequence of date, month and year. Press [PROG] as well to adjust the selected
digits. Once the required year is chosen, the year digit will remain flashing. During this
day / month / year scrolling, you can still press [SYNC] to read the tide times for the
future high/low tides and dates beyond the chosen date as described above.
To exit from day / month / year scrolling and be back to the current day, press [CLEAR]
once. This will take you back to the current tide time for that location.
