Important Safeguards and Precautions Safety Precautions/Mesure s de sécurité Customer Serv ices Directory
Safety Precautions/Mesures de sécurité
-2-
1 SAFE ANTENNA AND CABLE
CONNECTION
An outside antenna or c able system must be
properly grounded to provide some protection
against built up static c harges and voltage. Section
810 of the National Electri cal Code, ANSI/ NFPA 70
(in Canada, part 1 of th e Canadian Electrical Code)
provides information regarding proper grounding of
the mast and suppor ting structure, grounding of the
lead-in wire to an antenn a discharge unit, size of
grounding conduc tors, location of antenna
discharge unit, connection to grounding electrodes,
and requirements for the grounding electrode.
2 KEEP ANTENNA CLEAR OF HIGH
VOLTAGE POWER LINES OR CIRCUITS
Locate an outside antenn a system well away from
power lines and electr ic light or power circuits so it
will never touch these p ower sources should it ever
fall. When installing anten na, absolutely never
touch power lines, circui ts or other power sources
as this could be fat al.
OUTDOOR ANTENNA INSTALLATION
USING THE UNIT
INSTALLATION
1 POWER SOURCE CAUTION
Operate only from power so urce indicated on unit
or in this manual. If uncer tain, have your Electric

inserted, tr y reversing it. If it still will not ¿t, have an
electrician i nstall the proper wall outl et. Do not
tamper with the plug.
GROUNDING PLUG CAUTION:
The plug requires a thr ee-hole grounding outlet. If
necessary, have an electrician install the proper
outlet. Do not tamp er with the plug.
3 POWER CORD
To avoid unit malfunction, and to protec t against
electrical shock, ¿re or personal injury:
- Keep power cor d away from heating applianc es and
walking traf¿c. Do not res t heavy objects on, or roll su ch
objects over the p ower cord.
- Do not tamper w ith the cord in any way.

wire insulatio n are hazardous and should be r eplaced by
a quali¿ed electrician.
4 DO NOT BLOCK VENTIL ATION HOLES
Ventilation openings in the c abinet release heat
generated during operat ion. If blocked, heat
build-up may resul t in a ¿re hazard or heat damage
to cassettes.
For your protection:
a. Never cover ventilation sl ots while unit is ON, or
operate unit while plac ed on a bed, sofa, rug, or
other soft sur face.
b. Avoid built-in installation, such as a book case

5 AVOID EXTREMELY HOT LOCATIONS
OR SUDDEN TEMPERATURE CHANGES
Do not place unit over or nea r a heater or radiator,

that is not ¿rm, level, an d adequately
strong. The unit c ould fall causing
serious injur y to a child or adult and

• Carefully foll ow all operating
instructions.
Before unit is brought out of s torage or moved to a
new location, refer a gain to the INSTALLATION
section of these s afeguards.
1 KEEP UNIT WELL AWAY FROM WATER
OR MOISTURE, such as vases, sinks,
tubs, etc.
2 IF EXPOSED TO RAIN, MOISTURE, OR
STRONG IMPACT, unplug unit and have it
inspected by a quali¿ed serv ice technician
before use.
3 ELECTRICAL STORMS
During a lightning s torm, or before leaving u nit
unused for extended periods of time, disconnect all
equipment from the powe r source as well as the
antenna and cable system.
4 WHEN UNIT IS PLUGGED IN
• DO NOT OPERATEIF:
- liquid has spill ed into unit.
- unit was droppe d or otherwise damaged.
- unit emits smo ke,m alodors, or noises.
Im mediately unplug unit, and have it i nspected by a
service te chnician to avoid potential ¿re and shock
hazards.
• Never drop or push any ob ject through openings in uni t.
Touching internal par ts may cause electric s hock or ¿re
hazard.
• Keep magnetic obje cts, such as speakers, away fro m
unit to avoid elect rical interferenc e.
5 USING ACCESSORIES
Use only accessories recommended by the
manufacturer to avoid risk of ¿re, shock, or other
hazards.
6 CLEANING UNIT
Unplug unit. Use a clean, dr y, chemically untreate d
cloth to gently remove du st or debris. DO NOT USE
cleaning Àuids, aerosols, or forced air that c ould

greasy, humid, or dusty areas may adver sely affect
internal parts.

instructions, the unit does not operate properly, do
not attempt to open or rem ove covers, or make any
adjustments not desc ribed in the manual. Unplug
unit and contact a quali ¿ed service technician.
2 REPLACEMENT OF PARTS
Make sure the serv ice technician uses only p arts
speci¿ed by the manufacture r, or have equal safety
characteristics as orig inal parts. The use of
unauthorized substitutes may result in ¿re, electric
shock, or other hazards.
