installed as Parkray Stoves annot a ept
responsibility for any fault arising through
in orre t use or installation.
These instru tions over the basi prin iples to
ensure satisfa tory installation of the stove,
although detail may need slight modifi ation to
suit parti ular lo al site onditions.
The installation must omply with urrent
Building Regulations, national and European
standards, Lo al Authority byelaws and other
spe ifi ations or regulations as they affe t the
installation of the stove.
The Building Regulations requirements may also
be met by adopting the relevant
re ommendations in the urrent issues of
British Standards BS 8303 and BS EN 15287-1.
Competent Persons Scheme
Parkray Stoves re ommend that this stove is
installed by a member of an a redited
ompetent persons s heme e.g. HETAS.
If the installer is not a member of a ompetent
persons s heme, it is a legal requirement to
notify your lo al building ontrol body in
advan e of any work starting.
CO Alarms
Building regulations require that whenever a
new or repla ement fixed solid fuel or
wood/biomass applian e is installed in a
dwelling, a arbon monoxide alarm must be
fitted in the same room as the applian e.
Further guidan e on the installation of the
arbon monoxide alarm is available in BS EN
50292:2002 and from the alarm manufa turer’s
instru tions.
Provision of an alarm must not be onsidered a
substitute for either installing the applian e
orre tly or ensuring regular servi ing and
maintenan e of the applian e and himney
system.

should be manufa tured in a ordan e with
BS8423 – Fireguards for use with solid fuel
applian es.
Do not Over-Fire
It is possible to fire the stove beyond its design
apa ity. This ould damage the stove so wat h
for signs of over-firing.
If any part of the stove starts to glow red, the
stove is in an over-fire situation and the
ontrols should be adjusted a ordingly.
Never leave the stove unattended for long
periods without first adjusting the ontrols to a
safe setting.
Careful air supply ontrol should be exer ised at
all times.
Fume mission
WARNING NOTE
Properly installed, operated and maintained,
this applian e will not emit fumes into the
dwelling. O asional fumes from de-ashing and
refuelling may o ur. However, persistent fume
emission is potentially dangerous and must not
be tolerated.
If fume emission does persist, then the
following immediate a tion should be taken: -
Open doors and windows to ventilate the
room and then leave the premises.
Let the fire go out.
Che k for flue or himney blo kage and
lean if required.
Do not attempt to re-light the fire until the
ause of the fume emission has been
identified and orre ted. If ne essary, seek
expert advi e.
The most ommon ause of fume emission is
flueway or himney blo kage. For your own
safety these must be kept lean at all times.
Adverse Weather
In a small number of installations, o asional
lo al weather onditions (e.g. wind from a
parti ular dire tion) may ause downdraught in
the flue and ause the stove to emit fumes.
In these ir umstan es, the stove should not be
used. A professional flue installer will be able to

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
advise on solutions to this problem (e.g. anti-
downdraught owl).
Do not fit an extractor fan in the same room as
this appliance.
CO Alarm
Your installer should have fitted a CO alarm in
the same room as the applian e. If the alarm
sounds unexpe tedly, follow the instru tions

Installation
Instructions
Chimney
The himney height and the position of the
himney terminal should onform to Building
Regulations.
Che k that the himney is in good ondition,
dry, free from ra ks and obstru tions.
The diameter of the flue should not be less than
125mm and not more than 200mm.
If any of these requirements are not met, the
himney should be lined by a suitable method.
If there is no existing himney then either a
prefabri ated blo k himney in a ordan e with
Building Regulations Approved Do ument J, or a
twin-walled insulated stainless steel flue to BS
EN 1856 an be used. These himneys must be
fitted in a ordan e with the manufa turer’s
instru tions and Building Regulations.
If the himney is believed to have previously
served an open fire installation, it is possible
that the higher flue gas temperature from the
stove may loosen deposits that were previously
firmly adhered, with the onsequent risk of flue
blo kage. It is therefore re ommended that the
himney be swept a se ond time within a
month of regular use after installation.
If you have any doubts about the suitability of
your himney, onsult your lo al
dealer/sto kist.
Connection to the Chimney
The himney must be swept before onne tion
to the stove.
An existing firepla e opening an be bri ked up
or sealed with a register plate.
A short length of flue pipe of minimum 125mm
internal diameter may then be used to onne t
the stove to the himney. This flue pipe should
be made of 316 grade stainless steel or vitreous
enamelled steel, nominal thi kness 1.2mm.
Ensure that the pipe end is no loser than
76mm to the himney walls.
The length of any horizontal run of flue pipe
must not ex eed 125mm.
It is essential that all onne tions between the
stove and himney-flue are sealed and made
airtight.
Both the himney and flue pipe must be
a essible for leaning and if ANY part of the
himney annot be rea hed through the stove
(with baffle removed), a soot door must be
fitted in a suitable position.
Flue Draught
If the draught ex eeds the re ommended
maximum, a draught stabiliser must be fitted so
that the rate of burning an be ontrolled and
to prevent over firing.
If the reading is less than the re ommended
minimum then the performan e of the
applian e will be ompromised.
The flue draught should be he ked under fire
at high output.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
Minimum Draught – 1.2mm Water Gauge
Maximum Draught – 2.5mm Water Gauge
Air Supply
The room or spa e ontaining this applian e
should have purpose provided ventilation
(where ne essary) in a ordan e with Building
Regulations.
Due onsideration should be given to air
requirements for any other applian e in the
same room or spa e.
Any air opening must be kept lear from
blo kage or obstru tion.
Hearth/ Material Clearances
Your stove must be installed on a floor with
adequate load-bearing apa ity, otherwise
suitable measures should be taken.
Use the adjusting s rews in the feet to level the
stove.
The stove an be re essed into a suitably sized
firepla e. Ensure there is a free air gap of at
least 150mm above and 50mm around the sides
and rear of the stove.
Where possible it is recommended that a free
air gap of 150mm or more is left around the
sides of the stove to obtain maximum heat
output and to gain access to the rear of the
stove.
The hearth should extend at least 225 mm from
the front of the stove.
If the stove is to stand in an applian e re ess, it
should stand wholly above a solid, non-
ombustible hearth, at least 125 mm thi k (this
may in lude the thi kness of a solid floor).
If the stove is not to stand in an applian e
re ess, it may stand wholly above a hearth
made of non- ombustible board / sheet
material or tiles, at least 12mm thi k.
The hearth should extend at least 150 mm from
the sides and rear of the stove, and at least 225
mm from the front of the stove.
All non- ombustible walls loser than 300mm to
the stove should be at least 75mm thi k.

No ombustible material must be stored
underneath the stove.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
Commissioning & Handover
Upon ompletion of the installation, allow a
suitable period of time for any fire ement and
mortar to dry out.
A small fire may then be lit and he ked to
ensure the smoke and fumes are taken from the
stove up the himney and emitted safely to
atmosphere.
Do not run the stove at full output for at least
24 hours.
On ompletion of the installation and
ommissioning, ensure that the operating
instru tions and operating tools for the stove
are left with the ustomer.
Advise the ustomer on the orre t use of the
applian e with the fuels likely to be used on the
stove and warn them to use only the
re ommended fuels for the stove.
Advise the user on what to do should smoke or
fumes be emitted from the stove.
The user should be warned to use a fireguard to
BS 8423 in the presen e of hildren and/or
infirm persons.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
Operating
Instructions
This applian e is not suitable for use in a shared
flue
Operation with the door open an ause ex ess
smoke. This applian e must not be operated
with the door open
Aerosol Sprays
Do not use an aerosol spray on or near the
stove when it is alight.
Air Controls
This stove has been designed to burn far more
effi iently than a traditional stove, with the
obvious notable feature of lean glass.
However, for this produ t to work properly it
must be used orre tly. To prevent ex ess
smoke emissions, the air ontrols of this
applian e must only be operated as dire ted in
the instru tions.
It is essential that the stove has an adequate air
supply for ombustion and ventilation.
Primary Air
Primary air is ontrolled via the slider in the
door. The amount of air an be in reased by
moving the slider to the right. On the double
door versions the amount of air is in reased by
moving the sliders outwards.
This provides a onventional air draught to the
bed of the fire.
Secondary Air
Se ondary air is ontrolled via the slider above
the door; it is this “Airwash” that keeps a lean
and uninterrupted view of the fire. The amount
of air an be in reased by moving the slider to
the right.
Tertiary Air
Tertiary air aids in good se ondary ombustion
of the fuel and redu ing emissions into the
himney and environment.
Tertiary air an be ontrolled by adjusting the
over plate on the ba k of the stove.
Warning! - This Applian e will be hot when in
operation and due are should be taken.
We advise that suitable gloves are used when
operating the Primary and Se ondary air
ontrols, and when opening the door.
Riddling Grate
Your Parkray Stove is fitted with a lo omotive
type grate. So that de-ashing an be arried out
leanly and easily, it is riddled from the outside
of the stove with the doors losed.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
To burn wood, push the operating tool up and
away from you.
When left in this position, air is restri ted
through the bed of the fire providing a solid
base to build up a bed of ash.
Surplus ash an be removed either by gentle
riddling or with a shovel.
It might prove benefi ial when burning more
rea tive fuels to leave the grate in a “neutral”
position, thus dire ting some under fire air and
some over fire air to the firebed.
Notes on Wood burning
With a full load of wood, the stove will need to
be refuelled approximately on e every hour.
Wood an be sta ked in the stove, but are
must be taken that logs do not tou h the baffle.
Overloading the stove an ause ex ess smoke
to be emitted.
Wood burns most effi iently with the se ondary
air valve lever in the open position and the
primary ontrol losed. Moving the se ondary
ontrol will ontrol the burn rate of the stove.
Note - primary and se ondary air is needed to
light the stove, see se tion entitled ‘Lighting the
Stove’
Wood burns best on a bed of ash and it is
therefore only ne essary to remove surplus ash
from the stove o asionally.
If there is insuffi ient burning material in the
firebed to light a new fuel harge, ex essive
smoke emission an o ur.
Refuelling must be arried out with a suffi ient
quantity of glowing embers and ash, so that the
new fuel harge will ignite qui kly. If there are
too few embers, add some kindling to prevent
ex essive smoke.
Lighting the Stove
We re ommend that you have two or three
small fires before you operate your stove to its
maximum heat output.
This is to allow the paint to ure in steadily and
to give a long servi e life of the paint finish.
During this uring in pro ess you may noti e an
unpleasant smell. It is non-toxi , but for your
omfort we would suggest that during this
period you leave all doors and windows open.
To light the stove open the primary and
se ondary air ontrols by pushing both levers
fully to the right. Light one or two firelighters
pla ed entrally on the grate, allowing the
flames to be ome established before pla ing
several pie es of small dry kindling in a riss-
ross fashion above the firelighters, taking are
not to smother the fire. Close the stove door.
On e the kindling is well alight open the door
and build the fire by gradually adding slightly
larger pie es of wood, losing the door
afterwards.
On e you have a good fire established a ross
the grate bed, further fuel an be added as
required and the air ontrols set to the orre t
position (see ‘Notes on Wood burning’).
Should the fire fail to light orre tly open the
door and use a poker to spread the fuel a ross
the grate. Close the door and allow the fuel and
stove to ool before attempting to relight the
fire.
N.B. Leaving the air ontrols in the losed
position, adding too mu h fuel or using wood
that is wet or too large will prevent the fire

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
from establishing orre tly and may result in
smoke emission from the stove.
Reduced Combustion
In order to shut down the stove, lose the
primary ontrol, then lose the se ondary air
slider by moving the handle all the way to the
left.
If the ontrols are left in this position, the fire
will be starved of air and will die down.
If you want to revive the fire it is re ommended
that the primary air ontrol is open first, and
then open the se ondary air slider.
Warning!- The stove will remain hot for a
onsiderable time after the fire has been
extinguished.
The Clean Air Act 1993 and
Smoke Control Areas
Under the Clean Air A t 1993 lo al authorities
may de lare the whole or part of the distri t of
the authority to be a smoke ontrol area. It is an
offen e to emit smoke from a himney of a
building, from a furna e or from any fixed boiler
if lo ated in a designated smoke ontrol area. It
is also an offen e to a quire an "unauthorised
fuel" for use within a smoke ontrol area unless
it is used in an "exempt" applian e ("exempted"
from the ontrols whi h generally apply in the
smoke ontrol area).
The Se retary of State for Environment, Food
and Rural Affairs has powers under the A t to
authorise smokeless fuels or exempt applian es
for use in smoke ontrol areas in England. In
S otland and Wales this power rests with
Ministers in the devolved administrations for
those ountries. Separate legislation, the Clean
Air (Northern Ireland) Order 1981, applies in
Northern Ireland. Therefore it is a requirement
that fuels burnt or obtained for use in smoke
ontrol areas have been "authorised" in
Regulations and that applian es used to burn
solid fuel in those areas (other than
"authorised" fuels) have been exempted by an
Order made and signed by the Se retary of
State or Minister in the devolved
administrations.
Further information on the requirements of the
Clean Air A t an be found here:
http://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/
Your lo al authority is responsible for
implementing the Clean Air A t 1993 in luding
designation and supervision of smoke ontrol
areas and you an onta t them for details of
Clean Air A t requirements
The Consort Slimline 5 has been re ommended
as suitable for use in Smoke Control Areas when
burning wood logs.
Recommended Fuels
Parkray Stoves re ommend that wood logs are
burnt in this applian e.
Burn only dry, well-seasoned wood, whi h
should have been ut, split and sta ked for at
least 12 months, with free air movement
around the sides of the sta k to enable it to dry
out.
Burning wet or unseasoned wood will reate
ex ess smoke emissions, tar deposits in the
stove and himney and will not produ e a
satisfa tory heat output.
Only authorised smokeless fuels may be used in
smoke ontrol areas.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
Warning! - Petroleum oke fuels or household
waste must not be burnt on this applian e.
This applian e should not be used as an
in inerator.
No liquid fuels should be burnt on this
applian e.
Should any diffi ulties arise over fuel quality or
suitability, onsult your lo al approved oal

GENERA
MAINTENANCE
This applian e requires regular maintenan e by
a ompetent person.
Baffle
This should be removed and leaned at least
on e a month to prevent any build up of soot or
fly ash that ould lead to blo ked flueways and
dangerous fume emission.
If the baffle is removed the himney/flueway
an be swept through the applian e.
Stove Body
The stove is finished with a heat resistant paint
and this an be leaned with a soft brush.
Do not lean whilst the stove is hot.
The finish an be renovated with Parkray Stoves
paint.
Glass Panel
Clean the glass panel when ool with Parkray
Stoves glass leaner.
Highly abrasive substan es should be avoided as
these an s rat h the glass and make
subsequent leaning more diffi ult.
Wet logs on heated glass, a badly aimed poker
or heavy slamming of the door ould ra k the
glass panel.
The glass will not fra ture from heat.
Firebricks
In normal use, these an last for many years. It
is possible however, to ra k them if logs are
ontinually jammed against them or if they are
frequently stru k with a poker.
Che k periodi ally for seriously ra ked bri ks,
whi h an be repla ed with new, available from
your dealer.
Door Catch
The door at h may require adjustment to
maintain the door seal.
To adjust the at h:
Loosen the M6 nut lo ated at the rear of
the door at h me hanism.
Rotate the barrel at h one omplete turn
to a hieve the orre t door operation.
Retighten the M6 nut.

JINCNS05 RevF 27/04/12
Rope
Che k the rope around the door. If rope is
be oming deta hed, use Parkray Stoves rope
glue to reatta h it. If the rope is in a poor
ondition, a repla ement rope kit may be
ordered from the Parkray Stoves spares range.
Chimney and Flueways
It is important that the himney, flueways and
any onne ting flue pipe are swept regularly.
This means at least on e a year for smokeless
fuels and at least twi e a year for wood and
other fuels.
The baffle will need to be removed from its
supports in order to sweep the himney (see
assembly instru tions).
Only wire- entred sweeps’ brushes fitted with a
guide wheel should be used.
If it is not possible to sweep all parts of the
himney through the applian e, ensure there is
adequate a ess to leaning doors.
Periods of prolonged non-use
If the stove is to be left unused for a prolonged
period of time then it should be given a
thorough lean to remove ash and unburned
fuel residues. To enable a good flow of air
through the applian e to redu e ondensation
and subsequent damage, leave the air ontrols
fully open
If the applian e has been unused for a long
period of time, su h as during the spring and
summer months, a ompetent person should
he k the himney for potential obstru tions
before lighting the stove.
Gaskets
All gasket used on this applian e are produ ed
from a heat resistant material alled Manniglas.
The glass gasket will have to be repla ed when
a new pie e of glass is fitted as the gaskets
be ome brittle after firing the stove.
Over time you may also find that the gasket
hanges olour.
This is due to a redu tion in the pigment used in
the manufa ture of the produ t and no ause
for on ern.
