Installing a Stadium / Paging / Announcement PA Package
Providing effective sound reinforcement for your venue is easier than you might think. This guide will help you do it, step
by step, BUT if you are unsure about anything, please give us a call at 1-800-338-0531 to speak with a Technical Advisor.
Please read ALL the instructions BEFORE you begin working on the installation, and refer to them as you work
through each step. The steps are basically the same for all our various packages, although the amp(s) and speakers
(number and/or type) may vary depending on which package you’re using.
STEP ONE: PLAN IT
First, you’ll want to determine where your components will be installed. Most times, if you’re working in an estab-
lished setting, these choices will be fairly obvious or straightforward. Your amplier and microphone must be housed
in a substantial weatherproof structure, with an electrical outlet, and protected from the elements at all times. If your
grandstand, press box, or what have you already exists, this goes without saying. If there is no permanent structure
on your site, you may want to consider using a portable PA system.
Speaker placement may (or may not) require a bit more consideration or planning. Depending on your particular situ-
ation, mounting the speakers to the top of the grandstand itself may be the best choice, or your only option. You may
also have existing poles for lighting, which can typically be used for speakers as well. Of course, if you’re replacing
an existing system, the present mounting locations are often sufcient. The goal is to provide clear audio in the ar-
eas where listeners will be present, without “blowing them away,” so to speak. In gure 1, we see a basic 2-speaker
setup, using the grandstand as the mounting location for the two speakers. This strategy (perhaps with minor modi-
cations) will be sufcient for many applications, with the advantage of very short runs for your speaker wire. If your
speakers will be mounted to poles or some other structure, the steps for connecting to the amp remain the same.

STEP TWO: ASSEMBLE & MOUNT
Assemble each RPH16 horn and D12075T driver by threading the driver into the horn. Using hardware appropriate
to your mounting surface, install the horn/driver assemblies in the locations you’ve chosen. Snug and secure them
into position, but do not completely tighten the adjustment points just yet, as you will likely need to aim and adjust
your speakers’ positions after everything is wired up and running. At this point, set the taps on your speakers to the
lowest setting (25W, as shown in gure 2).
STEP THREE: WIRE RUNS
With your 70V amplier and speakers, you can wire all your speakers in a daisy-chain fashion (wiring from one
speaker to the next), rather than having to make a separate wire run from the amp for each speaker. You may also
use individual wire runs for each speaker if this is more feasible in your situation. As seen in image 3, your wire leads
with BLACK sheathing will be negative (-), or common. RED (on the direct burial cable) or WHITE (on the D1075T
driver pigtail) will be positive (+). Starting with the speaker nearest your amp, lay out your wire from the amp’s loca-
tion, allowing for any objects you’ll be running the wire up/down/around, etc., and leave a foot or so extra just in case
before you cut. It’s better to have a little more wire than you need, than to cut the wire only to discover it doesn’t
quite reach your destination. If you’ll be following a daisy-chain wiring scheme, proceed laying out wire accordingly
from the rst speaker to the next, and so forth. Once all your wire is laid out, you can begin making the connections
to your speakers. Connect the direct burial cable to the drivers’ pigtails using wire nuts, butt splices, or other appro-
priate connectors. Use electrical junction boxes (available at your local hardware store) to enclose and protect these
connections. For outdoor installations, weatherproof junction boxes should be used.

STEP FOUR: WIRE SPEAKERS TO THE AMP
Next, you’ll connect the speaker wire to your amplier. Make sure the amp is not plugged in to power, that the power
switch on the amp is turned OFF (O), and all level control knobs are turned completely to the left (0). Referring again
to image 3, connect the BLACK wire(s) to the COM terminal on the back of the amp. Connect the RED wire(s) to the
70V terminal. At this point, your system is wired, and should be functional.
STEP FIVE: CONNECT AND TEST
Make sure the amp is not plugged in to power, that the power switch on the amp is turned OFF (O), and all level control
knobs are turned completely to the left (0). Turn the BASS and TREBLE control knobs to the 12 o’-clock position (0).
Using the supplied 1/4” to XLR cable, connect the XLR (3-pin) end to your DM1 microphone, and the 1/4” end to the
amp, at the MIC 1 INPUT jack on the front of the amp. Using the supplied RCA to 3.5 mm cable, connect the RCA (red
and white) end to the back of the amplier, at the red and white AUX 1 jacks. Plug the 3.5 mm end into your smartphone,
tablet, laptop, or other audio device. Open your music app and start the music. Set your device’s volume level to full,
then back it down one or two clicks. Plug the amplier’s power cord into an electrical outlet. Turn the amplier’s power
switch ON (I), and turn the MASTER level control knob to the 12 o’-clock position (5). Turn the level control knob for AUX
1 to the right slowly, and you should be able to hear your music’s volume increase as you turn the knob. Around 12 o’-
clock or so should be plenty loud, but adjust according to your situation. (If you are NOT hearing your music at this point,
check all your connections, and go back over all the steps to make sure you didn’t miss anything.)

STEP SIX: AIM, ADJUST, AND ENJOY
You’ll want to take some time to walk around the entire area, and see how it sounds in all the places you need to
cover. Recruit volunteers to stand (or sit) in various locations to assist in aiming and adjusting the speakers. Use
the BASS and TREBLE controls to tailor the sound to your liking if needed. Follow the same procedure for your
microphone and any other sources you’ll be using. Once you’re satised with the coverage and performance of the
system, go ahead and tighten up the adjustment points on the speakers, and secure any wires using appropriate
hardware. And boom. You’re done. Just like that!
