e wo ben, in dem sich nicht nu langjäh ige E fah ung in de Entwicklung von
Pe iphe ie fü den Amiga wide spiegelt, sonde n dessen Vo läufe , das BLIZZARD
1230 und das BLIZZARD 1230-11 Tu bo Boa d, be eits tausende zuf iedene Besitze
gefunden hat. De hohe Aufwand, de bei de Entwicklung und Feinabstimmung
diese E weite ung bet ieben wu den, ist auch Maßstab bei de P oduktion de Ge äte
gewesen. Diese Aufwand gewäh leistet, daß das BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d

Einbau des BLIZZARD 1230-111 Turbo Board
Hinweis: Wenn Sie Ih BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d selbst mit einem
mathematischen Cop ozesso auf üsten wollen, lesen Sie bitte zue st das
entsp echende Kapitel du ch, da de Einbau des Cop ozesso s vo dem Einbau des
BLIZZARD 1230-III in den Rechne vo zunehmen ist. Auch Speiche module sollten
nu vo dem Einbau des BLIZZARD 1230-III in den Rechne installie en we den.
Entfe nen Sie alle Kabel (Netzkabel, Maus, se iell und pa allele Kabel sowie zweite
Floppy) von Ih em Amiga 1200. D ehen Sie den Rechne nun um und legen Sie ihn
vo sichtig auf die Tastatu , so daß das inte ne Floppylaufwe k nach links weist. Auf
de Unte seite des Rechne s können Sie nun die Klappe fü den inte nen
E weite ungsplatz e kennen. Diese Klappe hat an de linken Seite zum
Floppylaufwe k hin einen Öffnungsschlitz. Sie können die Klappe unte Ve wendung
eines no malen Schlitzsch aubend ehe s öffnen.

Nach Öffnen de Abdeckung e kennen Sie echts in dem Montageschacht die
150polige E weite ungssteckleiste des Amiga 1200. Auf diesen muß die 150polige
Anschluß des BLIZZARD 1230-III aufgesteckt we den. Hie zu müssen Sie das Boa d
wie in Bild 1 gezeigt in die Einbauöffnung einsetzen.
Vo sicht ist beim Einsetzen des Boa ds in die Füh ungsschienen geboten, da hie bei
das Boa d selbst leicht gekippt we den muß. Achten Sie beim Einbau da auf, daß das
Boa d mit seine Kante obe halb de Füh ungsschiene bleibt.
Nachdem Sie das Boa d mit dem Stecke auf den E weite ungsstecke des Amiga
1200 so ausge ichtet haben, daß Sie es auf diesen aufschieben können, fixie en Sie
das Boa d du ch And ücken von de linken Seite wie in Bild 2 da gestellt.

Wenn das Boa d ko ekt eingebaut ist, können Sie den Deckel des Einbauschachts
ohne g öße en K aftaufwand wiede schließen. Sollte die Platine noch nicht ichtig
auf dem Stecke sitzen, so ve spü en Sie beim Schließen des Deckels einen
Wide stand, da de Deckel eine Haltenase zu Fixie ung des eingebauten Boa ds
besitzt, de dann auf die Platine d ückt. In diesem Falle öffnen Sie den Einbauschacht
noch einmal und d ücken Sie das Boa d feste auf den Stecke .
D ehen Sie nun den Amiga wiede in die no male Lage und schließen Sie alle Kabel
wiede an. Hie mit ist de Einbau Ih es BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa ds
abgeschlossen.
Betrieb des BLIZZARD 1230-111 Turbo Board
Nach dem Einbau ist das BLIZZARD 1230-III sofo t bet iebsbe eit und stellt seine
Leistung di ekt nach dem Einschalten zu Ve fügung. Sie benötigen keine lei weite e
Softwa e ode Konfigu ationen. Sie müssen lediglich, sofem Sie selbst einen
Cop ozesso installie t haben, die Jumpe entsp echend de von eventuell gewählten
Bet iebsa t setzen. Diese Einstellungen we den im Kapitel "Einbau eines
mathematischen Cop ozesso s" besch ieben.
Ebenso übe einen Jumpe bestimmen Sie, ob automatisch die MAPROM-Funktion,
die das Bet iebssystem ins schnelle e Fast-RAM kopie t, aktivie t we den soll ode
nicht. Die MAPROM-Funktion ist ab We k automatisch aktivie t, da sie einen
zusätzlichen Geschwindigkeitsvo teil b ingt.
Sollte sich Ih Rechne mit installie tem BLIZZARD 1230-III nicht o dnungsgemäß
ve halten, so kann es atsam sein, zu übe p üfen, ob die Jumpe , speziell de
MMU_OFF-Jumpe und de Cop ozesso -Jumpe , ko ekt gesetzt sind. Die
Jumpe -Einstellungen we den auf de nächsten Seite e läute t.

Auf dem BLIZZARD 1230-III befinden sich nu d ei ve schiedene Jumpe , um
Einstellungen vo zunehmen. Alle weite en Fuktionen, wie z.B. Einstellen de
RAM-G öße, geschehen automatisch.

ln de linken Stellung wi d de Cop ozesso synch on, also mit dem Takt des
Hauptp ozesso s, bet ieben. Wenn Sie einen Cop ozesso mit ande e Takt ate
benutzen wollen, muß diese Jumpe auf die echte Position gesteckt we den. Bei
asynch onem Bet ieb muß de zweite Oszillato installie t sein.
MAPROM
Wenn auf dem BLIZZARD 1230-111 Speiche installie t ist, können Sie das Kicksta t
in das schnelle e RAM laden, um die Ausfüh ung von Bet iebssystemfunktionen zu
beschleunigen. Wenn de MAPROM-Jumpe gezogen ist, wi d das Kicksta t
automatisch umkopie t. Bei gestecktem Jumpe wi d das Kicksta t aus dem ROM
ausgefüh t. Die (aktivie te) MAPROM-Funktion belegt 512 KByte des auf dem
BLIZZARD 1230-111 installie ten RAMs.
MMU_OFF
De MMU_OFF-Jumpe dient zum ha dwa eseitigen Abschalten de MMU. Diese
Jumpe sollte fü o dnungsgemäßen Bet ieb bei BLIZZARD 1230-III-Boa ds mit 40
MHz-68EC030-P ozesso gesteckt sein, und bei BLIZZARD 1230-III-Boa ds mit 50
MHz-68030-P ozesso nicht gesteckt sein.

Speicheraufrüstung
Fü die Speiche bestückung benötigen Sie ein 32-Bit SIMM, allgemein unte de
Bezeichnung PS2-Modul e hältlich. Sie können Sie sowohl einseitige als auch
zweiseitig bestückte SIMMs ve wenden. Das BLIZZARD 1230-III akzeptie t
SIMMs de Speiche g öße 1MB, 2MB, 4MB, 8MB, 16MB und 32MB. Die
O ganisation de SIMMs da f sowohl 32 Bit als auch 36 Bit bet agen. Die 36-Bit
SIMMs we den in IBM-kompatiblen PCs ve wendet, die die zusätzlichen 4 Bit als
Pa itätsbit ve wenden. Beim BLIZZARD 1230-III we den diese zusätzlichen Bits
igno ie t.
Fü die 40 MHz-Ve sion de BLIZZARD 1230-III können SIMMs mit eine
Geschwindigkeit von 80 ns ode schnelle eingesetzt we den, fü den Bet ieb in eine
BLIZZARD 1230-III mit 50 MHz we den SIMMs mit 70 ns Geschwindigkeit benötigt.
Einsetzen von SIMM-Moduien
Legen Sie das BLIZZARD 1230-III auf eine ebene, feste Unte lage. Beachten Sie,
daß empfindliche Obe flächen du ch die Pins auf de Unte seite beim Einsetzen des
Speiche moduls ze k atzt we den könnten; wi empfehlen dahe als Unte lage z.B.
eine Zeitsch ift. Die Speiche -SIMMs haben auf eine Seite ih e Steckkontaktleiste
eine Ausspa ung, damit sie nicht ve keh t eingesetzt we den können. Diese
Ausspa ung muß sich beim Einsetzen auf de echten Seite befinden, wie in
Abbildung 4 e sichtlich. Setzen Sie das SIMMs in einem Winkel von etwa 40° bündig
in den Sockel ein; das Modul läßt sich so p oblemlos einsetzen. Dann d ücken Sie mit
den Daumen auf beiden obe en Ecken das SIMM sanft nach unten, bis es hö ba
ein astet. Achten Sie da auf, daß die Metallhaken links und echts bei den
Fixie löchem beide übe die Platine des SIMMs ein asten. Beachten Sie bei allen
A beitssch itten, daß die SIMMs keine sta ken mechanischen Belastung ausgesetzt
we den dü fen.

Einbau des mathematischen Coprorozessors
Das BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d ist fü den Einbau eines mathematischen
Cop ozesso s vo be eitet. Sie benötigen hie fü einen Cop ozesso des Typs 68882 in
de Baufo m PGA.
De Cop ozesso kann sowohl sysnch on, also mit dem Takt des Hauptp ozesso s, als
auch asynch on mit einem eigenen Takt bet ieben we den. Fü den synch onen
Bet ieb benötigen Sie einen 68882 mit eine Taktf equenz entsp echend des
P ozesso s (40 ode 50 MHz). De synch one Bet ieb wi d übe den
Cop ozesso -Jumpe eingestellt, de hie zu auf die linke Position gesetzt we den muß,
wie in Abbildung 6 da gestellt.
Fü den asynch onen Bet ieb benötigen Sie einen 68882 mit eine zulässigen
Taktf equenz von mindestens 40 MHz und einen passenden Qua zoszillato im
8-poligen DIL-Gehäuse. Zum asynch onen Bet ieb wi d de Cop ozesso -Jumpe auf
die echte Position gesetzt, also nicht wie in Abbildung 6 da gestellt.

Gene ell wi d vom He stelle des 68030- und des 68882-P ozesso es, de Fi ma
Moto ola, empfohlen, daß de Cop ozesso mit de gleichen ode eine höhe en
Takt ate wie de P ozesso a beiten sollte. Bisweilen a beiten auch Cop ozesso en mit
bis ca. 10% nied ige e Takt ate noch ko ekt und ohne Rechenfehle , alle dings
übe nehmen wi dafü gemäß den Moto ola-Spezifikationen keine Gewäh .
Passende Cop ozesso en und ggfs, den Qua zoszillato können Sie bei Ih em
Fachhändle beziehen. Wi empfehlen da auf zu achten, daß de Cop ozesso in de
ko ekten Taktf equenz geliefe t wi d, und aus möglichst neue P oduktion stammt,
was anhand des Date Codes feststellba ist. Bitte f agen Sie hie zu Ih en Fachhändle .
De PGA Cop ozesso wi d in den vo gesehenen Sockel eingesetzt. PIN Al des
P ozesso s ist du ch einen sch äg ve laufenden Metallst eifen von de Mitte des

Gehäuses zu eine de Ecken ma kie t. Diese Metallst eifen muß beim Einbau so
ausge icgtet sein, wie in Bild 6 da gestellt (PIN Al echts unten). Vo dem Einbau
sollten Sie sich ve gewisse n, daß de P ozesso keine ve bogenen ode ga
abgeb ochenen Pins hat.
Zum Einbau legen Sie das BLIZZARD 1230-III auf eine ebene, fest Fläche.
Positionie en Sie dann den P ozesso auf dem Sockel, wobei Sie da auf achten
müssen, daß alle Anschlußkontakte ko ekt in den Füh ungen des Sockels sitzen. Sie
können nun den P ozesso du ch k äftigees, abe t otzdem gefühlvolles Eind ücken
mit dem Daumen in den Sockel d ücken. Achten Sie da auf, daß e waag echt und
gleichmäßig im Sockel sitzt, wie auch de Hauptp ozesso ab We k installie t ist.
De fü asynch onen Bet ieb einzubauende Qua zoszillato hat auf dem Gehäuse einen
Punkt, um Pin 1 zu ma kie en. Beim Einbau muß diese Punkt nach links unten
zeigen, wenn Sie die Platine wie in Bild 6 vo sich liegen haben. De Qua zoszillato
wi d einfach in den f eien Sockel bzw. die eingelöteten Sockelpins eingesteckt.

Benutzung, speziell auch unauto isie te Repa atu , ve u sacht wu den.

Ausgeschlossen we den ebenso Ga antieleistungen fü Fehlfunktionen ode
Funktionsstö ungen am BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d , an ande en im/am
AMIGA angeschlossenen Ge äten ode am AMIGA selbst, die nach dem Einbau des
BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d ode späte e Ve ände ungen des Systems (wie
z.B. Einbau neue E weite ungen) auft eten, sofe n nicht zweifelsf ei nachgewiesen
we den kann, daß ein technische Defekt des BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d
U sache de Fehlfunktion ode Funktionsstö ung ist. Ausd ücklich we den hie bei
auch Ve ände ungen an de Ha dwa e und/ode Softwa e des AMIGA eingeschlossen,
die du ch die Fi ma Commodo e in Fo m von Repa atu en, Nachbesse ungen ode
System-Updates vo genommen we den.

P odukt fü eine bestimmte Anwendung geeignet ist. Weite hin übe nehmen wi
keine lei Haftung fü Defekte ode Schäden an ande en Ge äten als dem BLIZZARD
1230-III Tu bo Boa d, sowie ausd ücklich auch Ve luste von Daten, die in mittelba en
ode unmittelba en Zusammenhang mit dem Einsatz des BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo
Boa d stehen ode zu stehen scheinen, selbst wenn wi vo he auf die Möglichkeit
eines solchen Zusammenhangs hingewiesen wo den sind. Fü mitgeliefe te

des jeweiligen He stelle s.
Da es sich bei de auf diesem BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d installie ten
aufladba en Batte ie um ein Bauteil handelt, dessen Lebensdaue du ch unsachgemäße
Behandlung sta k eduzie t we den kann, ist die Batte ie von de Ga antie
ausgenommen.
Wi empfehlen, den Rechne nach dem e sten Einschalten nach Einbau dieses
BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d mindestens 4 Stunden eingeschaltet zu lassen,
und in de Folgewoche täglich je 2 Stunden einzuschalten, um fü volle Aufladung de

Batte ie zu so gen. Bitte beachten Sie, daß zu lange Phasen ohne Bet ieb (6 Wochen
ode länge ) zu Tiefentladungen de Batte ie füh en können, was die Lebensdaue
e heblich beeint ächtigen kann.
Bitte senden Sie in jedem Fall Ih e Regist ationska te unte Angabe von Kaufdatum
und Se iennumme des BLIZZARD 1230-III Tu bo Boa d ein, damit im Falle von

If you BLIZZARD 1230-III boa d is fitted with memo y o a maths co-p ocesso
please ead the sections conce ning these befo e p oceeding. You will obviously need
to fit these options befo e installing the BLIZZARD 1230-III in you compute .
Remove all cables (powe cable, mouse, se ial and pa allel cable and second floppy)
f om you Amiga 1200. Now tu n the compute upside down and lay it ca efully on
the keyboa d so that the inte nal floppy d ive is on the left. You will now be able to
see the cove fo the expansion slot on the unde side of the compute . This cove has
an opening slot on the left-hand side towa ds the floppy d ive. You can open this

When you have opened the cove you will be able to see the 150-pin expansion slot of
you AMIGA 1200, to the ight of the installation compa tment. The 150-pin
connecto on the BLIZZARD 1230-III must be inse ted into this. Inse t the boa d, as
shown in Diag am 1, into the installation slot. Take ca e when positioning the boa d in
the guiding ails as the boa d needs to be tilted slightly. Check that the edge of the
boa d emains above the guiding ails. With the boa d positioned eady to push into
the expansion slot of the Amiga 1200, p ess f om the left side, as shown in Diag am 2,
to fix it in.

If the boa d is not installed co ectly you will need to push ha d to close the cove of
the installation compa tment. If the boa d is not p ope ly seated in the connecto then
you will encounte esistance when closing the cove as it has a lug fo fixing the
installed boa d and, the efo e, p esses on the boa d if it is not co ectly installed. If
this should happen, open the installation compa tment again and p ess the boa d
fu the into the connecto .
Now tu n the Amiga back up the ight way and econnect all the cables. This
completes the installation p ocedu e fo you BLIZZARD 1230-111 Boa d.
Operating the BLIZZARD 1230-111
Afte installation, the BLIZZARD 1230-III is immediately eady fo ope ation when
you tu n the compute on. You do not need to configu e any softwa e. You will,
howeve , need to set the jumpe in acco dance with a co-p ocesso you have installed.
You will also need to set a jumpe to dete mine whethe the MAPROM function is to
be activated automatically. Please efe to the sections "Jumpe Settings" and
"Installing a maths Co-P ocesso ".
If you have bought you BLIZZARD 1230-III with a math cop o installed, all
jumpe s should be set co ectly. The MAPROM function will be facto y-enabled as it
p ovides an additional pe fo mance inc ease. If you AMIGA 1200, howeve , does not
ope ate co ectly afte installation of the BLIZZARD 1230-III, it is ecommended to
check whethe the jumpe s a e set co ectly.

If this jumpe is set to the left position, the co-p ocesso is ope ated synch onously,
with the cent al p ocesso clock. If you want to use a co-p ocesso with anothe clock
ate this jumpe must be set to the ight position. Fo asynch onous ope ation a second
oscillato must be installed.
MAPROM
If memo y is installed on the BLIZZARD 1230-III you can load Kicksta t into the
faste RAM to speed up the execution of ope ating system functions. If the MAPROM
jumpe is emoved, Kicksta t will be automatically copied ove to the RAM. If the
jumpe is installed Kicksta t will be executed on the ROM.
MMILOFF
This jumpe is used to disable the p ocesso ’s MMU. This jumpe must be set on all
BLIZZARD 1230-III Boa ds with a 40 MHz 68EC030 p ocesso , and should not be
set on all BLIZZARD 1230-III Boa ds with a 50 MHz 68030 p ocesso .

Memory Configuration
You will equi e a 32-bit SIMM fo the memo y. You can use both single-sided and
double-sided SIMMs. The BLIZZARD 1230-III accepts SIMMs with a memo y size
of 1MB, 2MB, 4MB, SMB, 16MB and 32MB. You can configu e both 32-bit and
36-bit SIMMs. The 36-bit SIMMs a e used in IBM compatible PC’s that use the
additional 4 bits as pa ity bits. These ext a bits a e igno ed by the BLIZZARD
1230-III. Because of the g eate demand fo 36-bit SIMMs, these a e available mo e
cheaply than the 32-bit ve sions.
The BLIZZARD 1230-III with 40 MHz p ocesso can be ope ated with SIMMs with a
speed g ade of 80ns (nanoseconds) o faste , the BLIZZARD 1230-III with 50 MHz
p ocesso needs SIMMs with a speed g ade of 70ns (nanoseconds) o faste .
Installing SIMM modules
Lay the BLIZZARD 1230-III on a plain, stable su face. Note that the pins of the
t ough-hole components on the bottom side of the BLIZZARD 1230-III may sc atch
this su face, so we ecommend to use e.g. a magazine o phone book. The 32-bit
SIMMs have a notch on one side so that they can only be inse ted one way. This notch
must be on the ight when inse ting the connecto , as shown in diag am 4. The module
is easy to fit; simply inse t it with an angle of appx. 40° into the SIMM socket, as
shown in diag am 4. Then p ess the SIMM down gently with you thumbs, until it
engages with a click in the SIMM socket. Check that the metal clips on the left and
ight a e both engaged in the fixing holes on the SIMM. Please note that the SIMMs
should not be subjected to excessive loads du ing any wo k on the boa d.

Installing the Maths Co-processor
The BLIZZARD 1230-III boa d is eady fo installing a maths co-p ocesso . You need
a type 68882 co-p ocesso of PGA design
The co-p ocesso can be ope ated both synch onously, with the cent al p ocesso
clock, o asynch onously with its own clock. Fo synch onous ope ation you will need
a 68882 with a clock f equency equalling the clock f equency of the p ocesso
installed (40 o 50 MHz). Fo synch onous ope ation the Co-P ocesso Clock Jumpe
must be set to the left position, as shown in diag am 6 below.
Fo asynch onous ope ation you will need a 68882 with a clock f equency of at least
40 MHz and a suitable qua tz oscillato in an 8-pin D1L housing. Fo asynch onous
ope ation the Co-P ocesso Clock Jumpe must be set to the ight position.
Both the co-p ocesso and the qua tz oscillato can be obtained f om you deale .

Moto ola, the manufactu e of the CPU and the maths co-p oceso , ecommends to
un the co-p ocesso at the same o highe clock speeds than the CPU only. Although
sometimes maths co-p ocesso s also ope ate at slightly lowe f equencies (with not
mo e than 10% diffe ence) than the CPU without e o s, we do not take any liability
fo such a configu ation, and do not ecommend to use it.
The PGA co-p ocesso must be fitted in the f ee socket next to the CPU. Pin A1 of the
p ocesso is ma ked with a diagonal metal st ipe f om the middle of the housing to a
co ne . If the boa d is positioned as in Diag am 6, this come must be in the bottom
ight when installing. Befo e installing the Co-P ocesso , make su e that all pins a e
st aight and no Pin is damaged.

Lay the BLIZZARD 1230-III on a flat, stable su face and position the co-p ocesso on
the PGA socket. When positioning the co-p ocesso check that all connecto s (pins) sit
co ectly in the socket guides. You can now p ess the p ocesso into the socket with
you thumb until it engages, as shown in diag am 7. Check that it sits ho izontally and
evenly in the socket, just as the main p ocesso is facto y-installed in it’s socket.
The co-p ocesso equi es a clock fo asynch onous ope ation. This qua tz oscillato
must be installed into the socket just unde the Co-P ocesso Clock and MMU_OFF
jumpe s (in diag am 6, you can see a clock al eady installed in this socket). Please
ead the Jumpe section fo details on setting the jumpe s. The qua tz oscillato has a
dot on the housing to ma k pin 1. If the boa d is positioned as shown in Diag am 6,
this dot must be in the bottom left when installing.

two hou s daily the following week, to allow full cha ging of the batte y. Please note
