Important notes for users in the
U.K.
Mains plug
This apparatus is fitted with an approved 13
Amp plug. To change a fuse in this type of plug
proceed as follows:
1Remove fuse cover and fuse.
2Fix new fuse which should be a BS1362 5 Amp,
A.S.T.A. or BSI approved type.
3Refit the fuse cover.
If the fitted plug is not suitable for your socket
outlets, it should be cut off and an appropriate
plug fitted in its place.
If the mains plug contains a fuse, this should
have a value of 5 Amp. If a plug without a fuse
is used, the fuse at the distribution board
should not be greater than 5 Amp.
Note: The severed plug must be disposed of
to avoid a possible shock hazard should it be
inserted into a 13 Amp socket elsewhere.
How to connect a plug
The wires in the mains lead are coloured with
the following code: blue = neutral (N),
brown = live (L).
As these colours may not correspond with the
colour markings identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows:
– Connect the blue wire to the terminal
marked N or coloured black.
– Connect the brown wire to the terminal
marked L or coloured red.
– Do not connect either wire to the earth
terminal in the plug, marked E (or e) or
coloured green (or green and yellow).
Before replacing the plug cover, make certain
that the cord grip is clamped over the sheath
of the lead - not simply over the two wires.

ABOUT DIGITAL AUDIO BROADCASTING (DAB)
DAB digital radio is a new way of broadcasting radio via a network of terrestrial transmitters. It
provides listeners with more choice and information delivered in crystal clear, crackle-free sound
quality.
–The technology allows the receiver to lock on to the strongest signal it can find.
–With DAB digital stations there are no frequencies to remember, and sets are tuned by station
name, so there's no retuning on the move.
What is a multiplex?
Digital radio operation is made up of a single block of frequencies called a multiplex. Each multiplex
works within a frequency spectrum, such as Band III for DAB broadcasts.
Helpful Hints:
–You will receive only those stations within your transmission area.
DAB BROADCASTERS AND DLS
Each DAB broadcaster (or multiplex operator) also provides text and audio data services. Some
programmes are supported by Dynamic Label Segments (DLS). This is data which you can read as
scrolling text on your DAB radio display. Some stations transmit the latest news, travel, and weather,
what's on now and next, website addresses and phone numbers.

SAFETY INFORMATION
•Don’t expose the set, batteries or CDs to humidity, rain, sand or excessive heat.
•Apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing.
•Place the set on a hard, flat and stable surface so that the system
does not tilt.
•Adequate ventilation with minimum gap of 6 inches between the
ventilation holes and surrounding surfaces is necessary to prevent
heat building-up.
•The ventilation should be impeded by covering the ventilation
openings with items, such as newspapers, table-cloths, curtains,
etc..
•No objects filled with liquids, such as vases, shall be placed on the
apparatus.
•No naked flame sources, such as lighted candles, should be placed
on the apparatus.
•The mechanical parts of the set contain self-lubricating bearings
and must not be oiled or lubricated.
•Clean the set with a dry cloth. Don’t use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia,
benzene or abrasives as these may harm the set.
Environmental information
All unnecessary packaging material has been omitted. We have done our utmost to make the
packaging easily separable into three mono materials: cardboard, polystyrene and plastic.
Your set consists of materials which can be recycled if disassembled by a specialized
company. Please observe the local regulations regarding the disposal of packaging
materials, exhausted batteries and old equipment.

POWER SUPPLY
–AC mains lead
–Remote control
Whenever convenient, use the mains supply to conserve battery life. Make sure you remove the
power plug from the set and wall socket before inserting batteries.
Main set
•Insert 6 batteries, type R-20, UM-1 or D-cells (preferably
alkaline) with the correct polarity.
Remote control
•Insert 2 batteries, type AAA, R03 or UM4 (preferably alkaline).
Incorrect use of batteries can cause electrolyte leakage and will
corrode the compartment or cause the batteries to burst.
•Do not mix battery types: e.g. alkaline with carbon zinc. Only use
batteries of the same type for the set.
•When inserting new batteries, do not try to mix old batteries with
the new ones.
Batteries contain chemical substances, so they should be
disposed of properly.
1. Check if the mains supply, as shown on the type plate located on the bottom of the set,
corresponds to your local mains supply. If it does not, consult your dealer or service centre.
2. Connect the mains lead to the wall socket.
3. To disconnect the mains supply, unplug the set from the wall
socket.
Auto-Standby mode
When a CD has reached the end of playback and remains in the stop
position for more than 15 minutes, the set will switch off
automatically to save energy.
The type plate is located on the bottom of the set.

1. Press STANDBY ON y to switch on.
2. Press Source selector once or more to select: CD, DAB, FM (or
CD, FM, DAB on the remote control) .
3. Press
y to switch off the set.
Helpful hints:
–The sound settings, DAB/FM presets and the volume level (up to a
maximum volume level of 20) will be retained in the set's memory.
VOLUME ADJUSTMENT
•Adjust the volume with the VOLUME 4,3 control.
=Display shows the volume level VOL and a number from 0-32.
BASS ADJUSTMENT
There are three DBB (Dynamic Bass Boost) options:
– : DBB1, moderate bass enhancement
– : DBB2,strong bass enhancement
– Off: no bass enhancement
•Press DBB once or more to select your option.
=or appears briefly when DBB is activated.
1. Press MUTE on the remote control to interrupt sound reproduction
instantly.
=Playback continues without sound and the display shows MUTE.
2. To reactivate sound reproduction you can:
– press MUTE again;
– adjust the volume controls;
– change to another source;
– press DBB.

select DAB (or press DAB on the remote control).

tunes to the last station detected / selected.
=The name of current station is shown in the 1st display line.
The broadcasting text, if available, scrolls in the 2nd display line
(DLS in default setting).

The first time you tune this DAB

and appears.

AUTOSCAN
Autosan local - scans all the UK frequencies (in default setting)
Autosan full - scans Band III frequencies.
•To start Autoscan local, briefly press SMART SCAN.
•To start Autoscan full, press and hold SMART SCAN until
appears.
=Display shows and the number of stations having
been detected. A progress bar appears, indicating the scanning
progress.
Helpful hints:
–When moving to another place, you can use Autoscan to refresh
the list of available stations.
–If no station is found during autoscan, the display will show .
(See Troubleshooting)
MANUAL TUNE
With Manual Tune, you can quickly access your desired station
according to its channel number.
1. Press DAB MENU to enter the advanced setup menu.
2. Push left/right 1,2once or more (or
5 , 6 on the remote control)
and then, ENTER to select Manual tune.
=Display shows the first channel number and the respective
frequency.
3. If necessary, press 1,2once or more to select your desired
channel number in the list of available channel numbers.
4. Press ENTER to confirm your selection.
=Display shows the channel number and multiplex name. A bar
appears, showing reception strength.
5. Press ENTER again to tune to the station.
To improve reception
1. Press ENTER when tuning to a station.
=Atuning indication appears:

2. To improve reception, extend, incline and turn the telescopic aerial.
Helpful hints:
- If any action is not confirmed within 7 seconds, it will be cancelled automatically.

After your DAB has been tuned, you can select a station using the
Navigation controls.
1. Push left/right 1,2once or more (or
5 , 6 on the remote control) to
scroll the list of stored stations.
=1st display line: current station you are tuning to.
2nd display line: station name changes as you scroll through the
list.
2. When your desired station appears, press ENTER to select the
station.
=Tuning to the station starts.
Indication of display symbols
–The station is one of your most listened to stations;
–The list of available stations is now sorted by the
station order of favorite stations
(See Fav station in SORTING STATIONS).
A number – Preset number assigned to presets (e.g.1, 2)
–Station off air
–Aprimary service, followed by secondary services

You can store up to 10 DAB radio stations in the memory, manually or automatically (Autostore)
AUTOSTORE
Automatic programming will start from preset 1. It allows you to save your favorite stations
as presets.
1. Sort the list of available stations by Fav station (See Fav station,
SORTING STATIONS).
=1st display line: the last station you tune to
2nd display line: a list of available stations, favorite stations in
the front, followed by other stations.
2. Go back to DAB MENU and select Station order
(See Fav station, SORTING STATIONS).
3. Press left/right 1,2once or more (or
5 , 6 on the remote control)
and then, ENTER to select - > presets from the option list.
=All the favorite stations are stored in the preset locations starting from preset 1, overwriting the
presets in the respective locations.
Helpful hints:
- If you wish to keep your original autostore presets, always select Fav station option when using
Station order sorting.
MANUAL PROGRAMMING
1. Select your desired station (See SELECTING A STATION)
=The name of current station is shown in the 1st display line.
The broadcasting text, if available, scrolls in the 2nd display line
(DLS in default setting).
2. Press PROG (make sure you have selected your desired
station and the list of stations has disappeared from the 2nd
display line)
=Display shows: current station name at the top display line and
the stations saved in program locations at the bottom.
3. Press PRESET 3,4(or
PRESET -, + on the remote control) once or
more to find a free location to store your new station.
4. Press and hold PROG.
=Display: Preset X saved when a station is successfully saved
(where Xdenotes a preset station number).
Helpful hints:
- You can erase a preset station by storing another freqency in its place.
- If you have saved presets using both Autostore and Manual programming, always select Fav
station option when using Station order sorting.

more to find your desired preset.

You can view the DAB service info in the following 7 information
modes. Depending on the DAB radio station you are tuning to, some
information modes may be unavailable.
•To scroll through the information options, press MODE repeatedly
until your desired option appears.

1. DLS (Dynamic Label Segments)
– Displays the scrolling broadcasting text (in default setting).
2. Program Type – Describes content type (e.g. jazz, pop)
3. Multiplex Name – Specifies the multiplex of current service. (A multiplex is a group of
stations broadcast by a multiplex
operator.)
4. Date and Time – Shows the date & time of current
multiplex.
5. Channel & Frequency – Displays the channel and central frequency of current multiplex
6. Bit Rate and Audio Status – Displays the transmission rate of broadcasting date in bits per
second (kbps);
– Display the audio status of current
service in stereo or mono.
7. Signal Error Rate –Indicates signal quality:
0-15: Good; 16-30: Acceptable; 30
or more: Poor.

By sorting stations, you can define in what order the available
stations are listed when the DAB is tuned.
1. Press DAB MENU (or MENU on the remote control).
2. Push left/right 1,2 (or
5 , 6 on the remote control) and press
ENTER to select Station order.
=1st display line: current station order
2nd display line: list of options, including:
Alphanumeric (default) – Displays all the stations in
alphanumeric order.
Fav station –Depending on the length of listening time, the set
automatically lists 10 stations you most frequently
listen to in alphanumeric order (favorite ones in the
front and others at the back).
Active station –Displays active/inactive stations (active ones in
the front and inactive ones at the back).
Prune stations –Removes inactive stations from the list.
3. Push left/right 1,2and press ENTER to select your desired
option.
=Station order is changed as specified
=The last selected station continues to play
=Next time you tune the DAB, the available stations are listed in the changed order.
With the 3 DRC value options, you can adjust the difference in loudness according to your listening
environment:
1. Press DAB MENU (or MENU on the remote control)
2. Push left/right 1,2once or more (or
5 , 6 on the remote control)
and then, ENTER to select DRC value.
3. If necessary, push left/right 1,2once or more and then, ENTER
to select your desired DRC value.
DRC 0 (for outdoor use), DRC 1/2(for in-home use), DRC 1 (for headphone use) .
If desired, you can restore your radio to its default setting by using DAB MENU.
1. Press down DAB MENU (or MENU on the remote control) for
more than 2 seconds.
=Display shows: Press Enter to confirm reset ...
2. Press ENTER to confirm resetting.
Helpful hints:
- If any of your action is not confirmed within 7 seconds, it is cancelled automatically.

1. Press yto on, then press Source selector to select FM. (or FM
on the remote control)
™FM is displayed and then the radio station frequency and, if
programmed, a preset number are shown.
™If in stereo mode, appears.
2. Press and hold 1, 2 (or
5 , 6 on the remote control) until the
frequency in the display starts running.
™The radio automatically tunes to a station of sufficient reception.
Display shows during automatic tuning.
3. Repeat step 2 if necessary until you find the desired station.
•To tune to a weak station, press 1, 2(or
5 , 6 on the remote
control) briefly and repeatedly until you have found optimal reception.
To improve radio reception:
•Extend, incline and turn the telescopic aerial. Reduce its length if the signal is too strong.
You can store up to a total of 30 radio stations in the memory,
manually or automatically (Autostore).
Manual programming
1. Tune to your desired station (see Tuning to radio stations).
2. Press PROG to activate programming.
™Display: CH appears and XX flashes (where XX denotes a preset
location).
3. Press PRESET 3,4(or
PRESET -, + on the remote control) once or
more to allocate a number from 1 to 30 for FM.
4. Press PROG to confirm.
™XX stops flashing, indicating the station has been stored in the
preset location.
5. Repeat steps 1-4 to store other stations.
Helpful hints:
- You can erase a preset station by storing another frequency in its place.
Autostore
Autostore automatically starts programming radio stations from preset 1. Any previous presets e.g.
manually programmed will be erased.
•Press PROG for 4 seconds or more to activate autostore programming.
™Display shows during Autostore.
After all stations are stored, the last autostore preset station will then automatically play.
To listen to a preset or autostore station
Press the PRESET 3,4(or PRESET
-, + on the remote control) buttons once or more until the
desired preset station is displayed.

This CD player plays Audio Discs including CD-Recordables and CD-Rewritables.
1. Press yto on, then Source Selector to select CD.
2. Insert a CD with the printed side facing up and close the CD door.
=is displayed as the CD player scans the contents of a
disc, and then the total number of tracks and playing time are
shown.
3. Press 2; to start playback.
4. To pause playback press 2;.
=Current playing time flashes.
5. Press 2; again to resume play.
6. To stop CD playback, press 9.
Helpful hints: CD playback will also stop when:
– the CD door is opened
– the CD has reached the end
– you select DAB or FM source.
– the set is in AUX mode (See chapter AUX)
•Press ∞or §(on the remote control ¡or ™) once or repeatedly until the desired track number
appears in the display.
•In the pause/stop position, press 2; to start playback.
1. Press and hold ∞or § on the set.
=The CD is played at high speed and low volume.
2. When you recognize the passage you want, release ∞or §to resume normal playback.
You can select and change the various play modes before or during
playback, and combine the ALL mode with PROGRAM.
SHUFFLE – tracks of the entire CD are played in random order
SHUFFLE ALL –repeats the entire CD continuously in
random order
ALL – repeats the entire CD/program
ONE – plays the current track continuously
1. To select play mode, press MODE once or more.
=If in the stop position, playback will start automatically in your
selected play mode.
2. To select normal playback, press MODE repeatedly until the various
modes are no longer displayed.
•You can also press 9to cancel your play mode.
Helpful hints:
–IntheSHUFFLE modes, press § to select another track or press ∞
to return to the beginning of the current track.

You can store up to 20 tracks in the desired sequence. If you like, store
any track more than once.
1. In the stop position, press PROG to activate programming.
=Display shows Tr1 P-01, indicating the start of the
program. appears.
2. Press ∞or §(on the remote control ¡or ™) to select your desired
track number.
3. Press PROG to store your desired track number in the 1st program
location.
=Display: the track number and P-01.
4. Repeat steps 2-3 to select and store all desired tracks.
=Display: if you try to program more than 20 tracks.
5. To play your program, press
PLAY/PAUSE 2; .
Helpful hints:
-During programming, if no action is executed within 10 seconds,
will appear and programming stops automatically. To
resume programming, press PROG.
Reviewing the program
After appears, you can review all the songs you have programmed in the program stop
position.
•If necessary, press
9 to enter the stop position.
•Press and hold PROG until the display shows all your stored track numbers in sequence.
Erasing a program
You can erase the contents of the memory by:
•opening the CD door;
•pressing
9 twice during playback
•pressing
9 once after appears.

This 3.5mm socket allows you to connect other audio equipment to
your system e.g. a MP3-CD player.
1. Use an audio cable to connect the LINE IN socket to the LINE
OUT/headphone socket on your external equipment.

=Playback of CD, DAB or FM source stops automatically.
2. To avoid noise distortion, turn down the volume on your external
equipment.
3. To adjust the sound and volume, use the sound controls on your
external equipment and the AZ6000.
•If the CD player cannot read CDs correctly, use a cleaning CD to
clean the lens before taking the set to repair.
•The lens of the CD player should never be touched!
•Sudden changes in the surrounding temperature can cause
condensation on the lens of your CD player. Playing a CD is then not
possible. Do not attempt to clean the lens but leave the set in a
warm environment until the moisture evaporates.
•Always close the CD door to avoid dust on the lens.
•To clean the CD, wipe in a straight line from the centre towards
the edge using a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use cleaning agents
as they may damage the disc.
•Never write on a CD or attach any stickers to it.

– Problem • Solution
If a fault occurs, first check the points listed below before taking the set for repair.
If you are unable to remedy a problem by following these hints, consult your dealer or service centre.
WARNING: Do not open the set as there is a risk of electric shock. Under no
circumstances should you try to repair the set yourself, as this will
invalidate the guarantee.
Remote control does not function properly
–Batteries exhausted/ incorrectly inserted
•Insert (fresh) batteries correctly
–Distance/ angle between the set too large
•Reduce the distance/ angle
–Your desired sound source is not selected
•Make sure you select your desired sound
source before operating keys on the remote
control.
No sound /power
–Volume not adjusted
•Adjust the VOLUME
–MUTE is active
•Switch off MUTE
–Power cord not securely connected
•Connect the AC mains lead properly
–Batteries dead/ incorrectly inserted
•Insert (fresh) batteries correctly
–Headphones connected to the set
•Disconnect headphones
–External audio appliance connected to the set
•Disconnect the LINE-IN audio cable
indication
–You may have moved to a new area which is
blocking the range of DAB transmitter.
• Autoscan the full range of DAB and refresh the
list of stations in service (See Chapter DAB,
TUNING/RETUNING, Autoscan Full)
• Move to another location to find better DAB
reception

–The station is out of service.
•The set will retune to an alternative service .
–The retuning fails.
• Reset your DAB radio to reset the list of
available stations (See Chapter DAB,
Resetting)
Severe radio hum or noise
–Electrical interference: set too close to TV, VCR
or computer

Poor radio reception
–Weak radio signal
•Adjust the telescopic aerial

–No CD inserted
•Insert a suitable disc
–CD badly scratched or dirty
•Replace/ clean CD, see Maintenance
