GENERAL
Piper’s Berkeley Series Hot Plates offer an attractive and
flexible approach to the display of foods that need to be kept
hot, but sell best when displayed to their best advantage.
These electrically heated units are available as drop-in
models for use in serving counters to replace steam pans
that hide the food; or as portable counter top models that
can be easily relocated as required. Units are provided with
either one, two or three (drop-in models only) individually
controlled hot plate sections. All models can be provided with
an optional “hot spot”; or, with an optional sneeze guard with
quartz heater for more even heating.

Berkeley Series Hot Plates
Drop-In and Portable
CONSTRUCTION
A black Ceran Pyroceramic hot plate, with a mat-type heating element adhered to the underside, is set into
a rectangular base frame and rests on support angles fastened to the inside of the frame. The hot plate
is separated from the frame by a band of high temperature silicone. The frame is constructed of stainless
steel. The space beneath the heating element is filled with insulation and enclosed by a removable,
perforated stainless steel bottom access panel. All models are provided with an 8' long cord with matching
NEMA # plug as shown on specification chart. The temperature of the hot plate surface is adjustable to a
maximum of 250ºF.
Drop-in models: Equipped with a 16 gauge stainless steel flange around the full perimeter of the frame to
support the unit when it is dropped into a counter cut-out.
Portable models: The stainless steel frame is black enamel coated. The unit is equipped with a
surrounding protective handle constructed of all welded tubular stainless steel, attached to the base frame
with horizontal spacers. Series P16050 models are provided with non-arking bottom feet. Series P26050
models are provided with 2" diameter casters.
CONTROLS
All models are equipped with a toggle aster on/off switch and an infinite control with separate pilot light
(one for each section of the hot plate).
Drop-in models: The controls are mounted in a stainless steel control box, mounted on the rear of the
base frame. The control box is easily removable, allowing for remote mounting. The controls are pre-wired
and furnished with 30" long connector cables.
Portable models: Controls for the hot plate are mounted on the rear of the base frame.
SNEEZE GUARD WITH HEAT LAMP
Optional sneeze guard with heat lamp is available for all models. The quartz heat lamp(s) are mounted in
a channel shaped stainless steel housing which is mounted to tubular uprights. The housing is coated to
match the finish of the base frame and is enclosed with a stainless steel bottom plate with recesses into
which the quartz lamps are mounted. Up to four 375 watt quartz lamps are provided, based on length of
unit. One end of the housing is fitted with a blower to maintain safe temperatures.
An adjustable dimmer control is mounted to the housing. The intensity of the heat lamp can be adjusted
by the operator.
The curved sneeze guard is 1/4" thick acrylic. Sneeze guards are designed for self-service.
Drop-in-models: Uprights are 1-1/2" diameter tubular stainless steel, welded to the perimeter flange, and
are fitted with a top cap.
Portable models: Uprights are 1" diameter “U” shaped stainless steel, welded to the frame at each end.
HOT SPOT
Optional 1700 watt Hot Spot is available for all models. Maximum of one Hot Spot can be provided per
unit. The Hot Spot can provide up to a maximum of 800ºF, ideal for holding soup, boosting heat, wok
cooking and various other options.

hot meals (pork pies, pizzas, quiches, etc.)
The new upright hot display Equateur is ideal for the
presentation of a high volume of hot dishes and allows
continuous service.
HOLDING TEMPERATURE
Stainless steel 18/10 AISI 304 cooking compartment
with The take-away hot meals are maintained hot
during the service.
For example : wrapped chickens stay at 156°F to 162°F
after 4 stocking hours.
DESIGN AND PERFORMANCES:
Its transparency design and lighter frame allow meals
to be highlighted at the maximum.
Lighting and heating contribute to hold temperature.
Open on the customer side, Equateur is easy to access
and to use.

Piper Products Series OTR Refrigerated Merchandising
Cabinets provide self-service for a wide variety of foods,
while displaying them attractively in a way sure to
attract customers. The refrigeration system is carefully
engineered to hold the cold foods at temperatures
optimized for protection of their safety and appearance,
in accordance with the latest food safety standards.
CONSTRUCTION
The display section is rigidly constructed of stainless
steel, with the front open to expedite self-service. The
rear is closed by means of two glass doors which are
hinged for cleaning and re-stocking. A glass top cover
is also hinged so that it can be opened or removed for
cleaning. Both ends are closed with fixed glass panels.
The glass panels are all mounted to two stainless steel
uprights at the rear, with plastic inserts isolating the glass
from the uprights. Three glass shelves are mounted, using
stainless steel toothed racks adjustable in height. In
addition, the base is recessed for additional food storage.
The bottom of the recess consists of stainless steel plates
which can be lifted out for access to the air circulation
system. Fluorescent lights are mounted in a fixture at the
top of the display to illuminate the food.
The rear doors are double, with the outer layers sealed
into the door frames. The inner layer is perforated as
part of the air circulation system and is removable for
cleaning. The doors are hinged and can be swung out for
re-stocking and for cleaning.
The display section sits on a base which houses the
evaporator coil and the air circulation system. Around the
base, near its top, a flange is provided to support the unit
when it is installed in a cabinet or a counter.
COOLING
The food is cooled by a precisely controlled air flow pattern
that maintains 38° to 40°F within the cabinet, even though
the customer side is open for self-service. Employing blowers
and ducts, the system creates a circular flow of cold air that
covers all of the displayed food while protecting the food from
ambient temperature conditions.
NOTE 1: Ambient conditions should be no higher than 75°F
and 50% RH.
NOTE 2: If ambient conditions higher than 75°F and 50% RH
are expected to be encountered, the factory must be advised
of this when a quotation is requested at time of ordering.
REFRIGERATION
A frame for the refrigeration system is mounted under the
base. The system is self-contained and fully connected. It
is thermostatically controlled and includes an automatic
defrost system using hot return gas to melt ice off of the
evaporator coil. (If remote refrigeration option is selected,
the hot gas return defrost is not provided.) The refrigerant is
environmentally safe type 404a.
NOTE 1: A 1" diameter drain pipe is provided as shown in the
drawing. This drain must contain a trap before connecting to
a floor drain or service container at time of installation.
CONTROLS
The controls are solid state, mounted on a panel and wired
for remote mounting. Included are on-off switches for lighting
and for power, and an adjustable temperature controller with
a digital readout.

NOTE: IF THE UNIT IS TO BE MOUNTED INTO A
COUNTER OR CABINET,
Front and rear ventilation louvers, each at least 25" W x 20" H,

The display section is rigidly constructed of stainless

rear is closed by means of two doors, each constructed of
a glass panel sealed into a stainless steel door frame. The
doors are hinged for cleaning and re-stocking. A glass top
cover is also hinged so that it can be opened or removed
for cleaning. Both ends are closed with fixed glass panels.
The top cover and the glass panels are mounted to two
stainless steel uprights at the rear, with plastic inserts
isolating the glass from the uprights.
Three heated shelves are provided, two of them mounted
on plastic brackets on two additional stainless steel
uprights. The third is recessed in the base. The shelves
are constructed of stainless steel, with glass heating
plates set into the top, sealed and insulated. The
undersides of the glass heating plates have printed circuit
type heating elements attached. Incandescent lamps
are mounted above each shelf to illuminate the food
and provide additional heating. The base of the display
section includes a flange to support the unit when it is
installed in a cabinet or a counter. NOTE: Standard space
between shelves is 6-1/2". If special spacing should be
required, it can be done ONLY at the factory and MUST
be specified at time of ordering.

Cabinets provide self-service for a wide variety of foods,
such as sandwiches (wrapped or unwrapped), salads,
desserts and drinks. Shelves are at ergonomic heights,
allowing customers to view the foods before reaching the
display. The refrigeration system is carefully engineered
to efficiently hold the cold foods at temperatures that are
in accordance with the latest food safety standards.
CONSTRUCTION
The display section is rigidly constructed of stainless
steel. The rear is closed by means of two glass sliding
doors which can be opened for cleaning and re-stocking.
Both ends are closed with fixed glass panels. Double
glazing with vacuum is used to avoid condensation.
Three glass shelves are mounted, using special plastic
brackets, on two stainless steel uprights. The stainless
steel bottom provides additional storage space. The
front is closed with hinged clear plastic flaps, mounted
on the front pillars, in front of each display level. The
bottom edge of each flap is shaped to form a handle for
easy lifting during self-service. The top housing contains
the evaporator coil and the air circulation system, and is
fitted with fluorescent lights to illuminate the shelves.
A flange is provided around the base of the display
section to support the unit when it is installed in a
cabinet or a counter. An enclosure for the refrigeration
unit is mounted under the display section.
COOLING
The food is cooled by a precisely controlled pattern of air
currents that are directed straight onto the food at each level
to safely maintain the foods at temperatures between 38ºF
and 40ºF. The system employs blowers and ducts to create
a circular flow of cold air that covers all of the displayed
food while protecting the food from ambient temperature
conditions. Air ducts and the evaporator tray are fully
insulated with polyurethane foam for efficiency.
NOTE 1: Ambient conditions should be no higher than 75ºF
