Using the menu
• Whennotinthemenu,thefourdigitdisplayscrollsthe
currentDMXaddressandmode.Thedisplay’srighthand
decimalpoint(datadot)isusedtoindicatestatus(seebelow).
•Press toenterthemenu.ThefourdigitdisplaywillshowADDR.
•Use and tomovebetweenmenuoptions(ortochangea
valuewithinanoption).
•Press toenteranoption(ortoxachangedvaluewithinan
optionandreturntothepreviousoptionlevel).Note: If you do
not press to fix a value, operation will revert to the
previously set mode at the next power on.
•Press toexitfromamenuoption(andeventually
exitthemenucompletely).

deviceinthechainisset
asmaster(e.g.thelighting

Master/slave/data indication
Therighthanddecimalpoint(datadot)ofthedisplayisusedtoindicatethemas-
ter/slavesettingsandalsothepresenceofaDMXinputsignal,asshownbelow:
Data dot ON Master mode
Data dot FLASHING Slavemode(DMXdatainputpresent)
Data dot OFF Slavemode(noDMXdatapresent)
Notes:
• EnsurethatonlyoneDMXdeviceinthechainissetasmaster(e.g.thedesk).
• UsePERS > datatochangebetweenmasterandslavemodes.
• Whensettomastermode,thexturewillscrollMASTERinplaceofaDMX
address(whennotwithinthemenu).
• Ifthedisplayhasbeensettoautooff(disp > aoff),thedatadotwill
remainactivebutatalowerbrightness.
DMX links and termination
ThissectionprovidesusefuladviceforgainingreliableoperationfromyourDMX
installation:
• Usegoodqualityexibletwistedpaircablethathasanominalcharacteristic
impedanceof120ohms.Microphonecableshavealowerimpedanceanda
highercapacitance,whichcanleadtodataerrors.
• Useadaisychainarrangementtolinkxturestogether,sothattheoutputof
onextureisconnectedtotheinputofthenext.
• Connectnomorethan32devicestoasingleDMXrun.Iffurtherxtures
areneeded,thenuseaDMXboostertoallowupto32morexturestobe
attached.
• NeversplitaDMXcabletoformtwobranches(aY-split).Ifseparatebranches
arerequired,useapoweredDMXsplitter.
• Ensurethatthedevicesateachendofthedaisychainarebothterminated
usinga120ohmresistor(usuallycontainedwithinaseparateXLRconnector
thathasnocable-theresistorformsalinkbetweenpins2and3).Control
desks are usually internally terminated.
Itispossibletogetawaywithbreakingsomeoftheaboverules,particularlyon
smallerinstallationsthathaveshortcablerunsandfewxtures.However,results
canbeunpredictableandproblemswillinevitablyhityouattheveryworsttime:
