Totem Italia exclusively for Plyroom.
INTENTIONALLY SIMPLE
 HONEST DESIGN
This product is designed with a modern interpretation of mortise and tenon joinery,
the oldest and strongest form of joinery used by carpenters for thousands of years.
The precise interlocking parts are displayed throughout, and the pieces fit together
like a jigsaw, emphasising the characteristics of the natural materials used.
Each mortice and tenon join is locked in place with a
handmade oak dowel.
MINIMAL PACKAGING
You might notice that your item is packaged simply. This is intentional to minimise
waste as much as possible. The plastic wrapping used can be recycled at many
recycling centres rather than going to landfill.
ASSEMBLING YOUR FURNITURE
→Do
We ask that you take your time in assembling this piece of furniture.
All pieces are designed to lock together with precision.
Use a mallet to press mortise and tenon joins together so they are flush.
If you don’t have a mallet a hammer covered with a soft towel is fine.
Check all joins are flush before inserting the oak dowels.
Use a hammer to tap dowels in and fasten pieces together.
Make sure the dowel is straight before you hammer.
You may choose to wait until all pieces are together to insert the
dowels into the joins, or you can insert them as you go.
→Don’t
Use a mallet on the timber dowels as the soft head of the mallet
will cause them to snap.
IMPORTANT!
→Disassembling your frame
This piece is designed to be disassembled when required. Please note that when
disassembling, a hammer must be used to remove the dowels. ALWAYS hold the
hammer in line with the grain of the timber panel it fastens and use the prongs of
the hammer to lever the dowel out slowly. If this step is not followed it will result in
breakage of the dowel. Once the timber dowel is removed the mortise and tenon
pieces will come apart with some gentle tapping with a mallet.
PARTS
There will be 2 spare G dowels in your box to keep as spares.

STAGE : COT ASSEMBLY FOR UPPER
MATTRESS POSITION
From Step 1, secure the B2 side rail to the B3 part by inserting the F1 timber bolt into
the bottom circle on B2, on the outside of the cot. Secure this in place by fastening
the F2 timber nut onto the F1 timber screw from the inside of the cot. Insert part D in
the middle opening of B1 and B2 as shown below. Insert the 4 x E dowels in the circle
openings on parts A. Tap 1 x G dowel into each E dowel opening on the inside of the
cot. (Do not insert all the way, as they are only intended to stop the E pieces from
falling out of the A parts and will need to be removed later when the cot position
is lowered.) Place mattress base part C to rest on the E dowels, also taking care to
insert the tabs on part D fully into the respective openings on the base.
STEP : ASSEMBLE FRAME
Connect the combined B2/B3 and B1 with the A pieces. The protruding elements
of B3 and B1 must be inserted all the way into the respective holes in part A. If
necessary use a mallet to lodge them fully in place. Fasten the elements by inserting
the 8 G dowels on the outside of the cot. **
** IMPORTANT
The ideal and maximum protrusion for the G dowels when hammered in must
be 5mm. Please ensure the head of the dowel can be grabbed with a hammer.
Ensure that the heads of the G dowels are not hammered in so far that they will
be dicult to remove when converting to cot desk.
STAGE : JUNIOR BED
Unscrew F1/ F2 & lift up the B2 piece.
STAGE : DESK ASSEMBLY
Connect B3 and B1 to both A sides, UPSIDE DOWN compared to the cot. The pro-
truding rectangular tabs on B3 and B1 must fit into the respective rectangular holes
on part A completely, if necessary use a mallet to lodge them fully in place. Secure
the joins by inserting the 8 x G dowels **. Place the C part (mattress base) on the
support ledges of elements A, B1 and B3 to form the desktop. You will not need part
B2 for the desk configuration. Remove “this side down” sticker from the table top.
STAGE : COT ASSEMBLY FOR LOWERED
MATTRESS POSITION
Following from Step 1, lower mattress base C to rest on the support ledges around
the cot interior. Secure B2 by inserting F1 timber bolt into the bottom circle on B2 on
the outside of the cot. Secure this in place by fastening the F2 timber nut onto the F1
timber screw from the inside of the cot.

IMPORTANT
RECOMMENDED MATTRESS SIZE
This cot has been manufactured for use with a mattress which measures 700mm wide by 1320mm long and 100mm in thickness. The width and length are specified because it
is important that the gaps between the mattress and the sides and ends of the cot will not exceed 40 mm. This is to minimize the risk of a child’s limb becoming caught in the
gap. The thickness of the mattress has been specified to ensure that the depth of the cot is greater than 500 mm with the mattress base in the lower position to minimize the
risk of a child climbing or falling out of the cot.
WARNING: TO PREVENT FALLS, THE MATTRESS BASE OF THIS COT SHOULD BE ADJUSTED TO THE LOWEST POSITION BEFORE THE CHILD
CAN SIT UP.
The manufacturer’s assembly instructions must be followed in detail to ensure the safety features of the cot are not compromised. Please ensure the cot is placed at a reason-
able distance from curtains, blinds, heaters and power points and keep medication, string, elastic, small toys or small items, such as money, out of reach from any position in the
cot.
