movethevehiclewellofftheroad.Turnon
emergencyflasheranduseotherwarningdev-
icestoalertothermotorists.Donotparkor
operatethevehicleinareaswherethehotex-
haustsystemmaycomeincontactwithdry
grass,brush,fuelspillorotherflammable
material.
•Makeita habittohavetheengineoilchecked
witheveryfuelfilling.

Break-inhintsforthefirst
1.000 miles/1.600kilometers
Therearenospecificbreak-inrulesforyour
Porsche.However,bytakingafewprecautions
youcanhelpextendtheservicelifeandper-
formanceofyourengine.
Duringthefirst1.000miles/1.600km,allwork-
ingcomponentsoftheengineadjusttoeach
othertoa certaindegree.Therefore:Avoidfull
throttlestartsandabruptstops.Changespeeds
frequently.Varythethrottleload.
Donotexceedmaximumenginespeedof5.000
rpm(revolutionsperminute).
Donotruna coldengineathighrpmeitherin
Neutraloringear.
Donotlettheenginelabor,especiallywhendriv-
inguphill.Shifttothenextpropergearintime
(usethemostfavorablerpmrange).
Theremaybea slightstiffnessinthesteering,
gearshiftingorothercontrolsduringthebreak-in
periodwhichwillgraduallydisappear.
Neverlugtheengineinhighgear atlow
speeds.Thisruleappliesallthetime,not
justduringthebreak-inperiod.
Breaking-inbrakepads
Brakepadsdonothavemaximumbrakingeffi-
ciencywhenthecarisnew.Therefore,more
pedalforceisnecessaryduringthefirst100to
150miles/150to250km.Thisalsoappliesto
replacementbrakepads.
Breaking-innewtires
Newtiresdonothavemaximumtraction.They
tendtobeslippery.Breakinnewtiresbydriving
atmoderatespeedsduringthefirst60to120
miles/100to200km,andlongerbrakingdis-
tancesmustbeanticipated.
Engineoilconsumption
Duringthebreak-inperiodoilconsumptionmay
beslightlyhigherthannormal.
Asalwaysrateofoilconsumptiondependson
thequalityandviscosityofoil,thespeedat
whichtheengineisoperated,theclimate,road
conditionsaswellastheamountofdilutionand
oxidationofthelubricant.
Engineexhaust
WARNING
Engineexhaustisdangerousifinhaled.
Neverstartorlettheenginerunina closed
garage.Neversitinyourcarforprolonged
periodswiththeengineonandthecarnot
moving.
Althoughexhaustfumesfromtheengine
havemanycomponentswhichyoucansmell,
theyalsocontaincarbonmonoxide,whichis
acolorlessandodorlessgas.Carbonmono-
xidecanbefatalifinhaled.
Ifyousmellgasfumesinthevehicle,drive
withthewindowsopenbutkeepthehatch-
backclosed.Havethecauseimmediatelylo-
catedandcorrected.
Becauseofinherenthazards,wedonotrec-
ommendtransportingobjectslargerthan
thosefittingsafelyintotheluggagecompart-
ment.Keepthehatchbackclosedwhiledriv-
ingtopreventpoisonousexhaustgasfrom
beingdrawnintothevehicle.
Nevercarryadditionalfuelcontainersinyour
vehicle.Suchcontainers,fullorpartially
empty,mayleak,causeanexplosion,orre-
sultinfireincaseofa collision.

topullthekeyoutoftheignitionlockandto
lockthedoors.
WARNING

Unsuperviseduseofanyvehiclekeymay
causeseriouspersonalinjury.

Becauseofthesymmetricalshapeofthekey
shaft,thereisno"wrong"wayofinsertingthe
keyinthelocks.
Thenewformatofthekeysmakesunauthorized
duplicationofthekeysvirtuallyimpossible.This
means,however,thatyouyourselfwillnotbe
abletogetreplacementkeyscut,unless
orderedfromyourauthorizedPorschedealer.
Forthelockablewheelnuts,threeidenticalkeys,
areincluded.Whentakingthevehicletoyour
Porschedealerortoa workshopforwheelor
tireservice,remembertoleaveonekeywiththe
serviceattendant.
Incaseofloss,duplicatewheellookkeyscan-
notbefurnishedbyyourPorschedealer.Donot
leavethesekeysinthevehicle.Keepthemina
safeplace.

Keynumber
Thekeynumberoftheignitionkeyissupplied
togetherwiththekeysthemselves,andshould
bekeptina safeplaceoutsidethevehicle.
Foryourprotectionagainsttheft:
•Recordthekeynumbersandkeepthemina
safeplace,suchasyourwallet.Donotkeep
theminthevehicle.
•Ifyoushouldlosea key,provideyour
Porschedealerwiththekeynumberandthe
vehicleidentificationnumbertoobtaina dupli-
catekey.
Keylight
Twoofthekeyshavea built-inflashlightinthe
keyhead.Thebeamfroma smallbulbinthe
keyheadilluminatesthelowerpartofthekey
stem.
Theflashlightisonaslongasthecontactbut-
tonisdepressed.
Theflashlightispoweredbya 1.5Voltbutton
battery.Whenthebeambeginstofade,replace
thebattery,becauseanoldbatterymayleak
anddamageyourclothes.

tocarefullyliftthekeyhandlecover.
2.Inserta new,commercialavailablebattery
(1.5V)inthecontactbutton.

Centraldoorlocking
Withthecentraldoorlockingsystem,both
doorscanbelockedandunlockedelectrically.
Thedoorsarelockedwhena keyisturnedin
eitherdoorlock.
Whenthedoorsarelocked,thelockingbuttons
(A)mustbefullyretracted.
Thetwodoorscanbelockedindividuallyfrom
insidebyturningbutton(B)orbypressinglock-
ingbuttons(A).Ifonedoorisunlockedbyturn-
ingbutton(B),theseconddoorisautomatically
unlockedaswell.
Topreventbeingaccidentallylockedoutofthe
vehicle,thecentrallockingsystemcanonlybe
actuatedwhenthedriver'sdoorisclosed(even
ifthepassengerdoorisstillopen).
Ifthecentrallockingsystemfailstowork,open
andclosethetwodoorsindividually.Thealarm
systemcanbearmedbyclosinga doorthree
timesinrapidsuccession.
Centrallockingbutton
Bothdoorscanbeelectricallylockedby
pressingthecentrallockingbuttoninthecenter
console.Thelampinthecentrallockingbutton
remainslitwhilethesystemisactivated.
Todeactivatethesystemwiththelockingbut-
ton,switchontheignition.

Alarmsystem
Thealarmsystemisarmedwhenoneofthe
doorsislockedwiththekey.Light-emitting
diodes(LEDs)inthelockingbuttonsstartflash-
ingimmediatelytoindicatethatthealarmis
armed.
IftheLEDsdonotflashwhenthecarislocked
orchangetoa double-flashingsignalafter10
seconds,notallofthealarmcontactshave
beenclosed.

Ifanalarmcontactisbroken,thealarmhornwill
soundforapprox.4 minutes.
Atthesametime,theinteriorlightsandthe
hazardwarninglightsflashforapprox.4
minutes.Whenthealarmistriggered,theLEDs
areswitchedtoa double-flashingsignal.
Iftheluggage-compartmentlidisopenedwith
thekeywhenthealarmhasbeenarmed,the
alarmstatusisautomaticallysuspendeduntilthe
lidisclosed.
Whena doorlockisunlocked,thealarmsystem
isdisarmedandtheLEDsgoout.
Ifthecentrallockingsystemisnotworking,the
alarmsystemcanbearmedbylockinga door
threetimesinrapidsuccession.TheLEDsindi-
catethiswitha double-flashingsignal.

Powerwindows
Toopenorclose,depresstherockerswitches
inthecenterconsoleinfrontoftheshiftlever.
Theswitchescanonlybeactuatedoneata
time.
Thepowerwindowsareoperationalwhentheig-
nitionisturnedon.
Whentheignitionisturnedoffortheignitionkey
removed,thepowerwindowscanbeoperated
untilonedoorisopened.
Openingwindows
Tappingtheswitchesmovesthewindowsin
stagestothedesiredposition.
Pressingtheswitchesforlongerthan0.5sec-
ondsautomaticallyopensthewindowsfully.The
movementofthewindowscanbestoppedin
anypositionbytappingtheswitchagain.
Closingwindows
Toclosethewindows,theswitchmustbeheld
downuntilthewindowshavereachedthe
desiredposition.
Doorlockcontact
Ifthekeyisheldinthelockingpositionwhen
lockinga door,thesunroofandthedoorwin-
dowswillcloseinsuccessionautomatically.
WARNING
Donotputanythingonornearthewindows
thatmayinterferewiththedriver'svision.
Removetheignitionkeytoshutoffpowerto
thewindowswitcheswhenthevehicleisnot
attendedbya responsibleperson.
Remember,powerisstillsuppliedtothewin-
dowswitchesuntilonedoorisopened.

Interior light in headlining
Interiorlights
Theinteriorlights,whichareindependentfrom
oneanother,comeon,withtheswitchinthe
appropriateposition,assoonasa doorisun-
lockedoropenedorthehatchbackisopened.
Theinteriorlightsgooutafterapprox.20sec-
ondsafterthedoorsareclosed.Thelightsgo
outimmediatelyiftheignitionisswitchedonor
thevehiclelockedwiththekey.
Footwell light in lower part of door trim
Theinteriorlightshavethefollowingswitchposi-
tions:
A lightcomesononlywhena doororthe
hatchbackisopened
Β lightswitchedoffpermanently
C lightswitchedonpermanently
Makesuretheinteriorlightsareturnedoffwhen
thevehicleisparked(batteryrundown).
Theinteriorlightintheheadliningandthelug-
gagecompartmentlightareswitchedonandoff
bytiltingthelampglass.Thefootwelllightsare
operatedbytheswitchintegratedinthelight.
Thelightforthecentralfuse/relayboardis
switchedonviathedoorcontactswitch.

Frontseatadjustments
Thecorrectseatingpositionisall-importantfor
safeandfatigue-freedriving.Inordertosatisfy
individualrequirements,theseathasinfinitely
variableadjustment.
Werecommendthefollowingprocedureforfind-
ingthecorrectpositionforthedriver'sseat:
1.Operatelongitudinaladjustmentuntilyourleg
isfullystretchedwiththeclutchpedal
depressedwhileyourfootisbent.
2.Adjustdesiredfore/aftheight.
3.Claspupperportionofsteeringwheel.Then
adjustbackrestinclinationsothatboth
shouldersremainincontactwiththebackrest
evenwithyourarmsfullystretched.

seatupwards,moveseatintodesiredposition,
releaseleverandensurethattheseatengages

WARNING
Neverunlockthedriver'sseatwhiletheve-
hicleisinmotion:theseatmaymovesud-
denly,causingyoutoloosecontroloverthe
vehicle.
Inordertoadjustthebackrest,pulltheinside
lockingleveratthefrontoftheseatupwards,
setseattodesiredpositionandreleasethe
lever.
Whenthereisnoloadonthebackrest,itwill
alwaysbepushedforwardsbyspringforce
whentheleverispulled.
WARNING
Frontseatpassengersshouldnotrideina
movingvehiclewiththebackrestreclined.
Safetybeltsonlyofferprotectionwhenthe
backrestisuprightandthebeltsareproperly
positionedonthebody.Improperlyposi-
tionedsafetybeltscancauseseriousper-
