3. Recoil
Starter:

engine.Tostartthe
engine,
pull
outchokelever,set
thethrottlehalfway
betweenslow
andfastand
grasp
the
starter
grip
and
pull
slowly
until
thestarter
engages.Then
pull
thecordrapidly
toover-
come
compression,
prevent
kickbackand
starttheen-
gine.Repeatifnecessary
withthe
throttle
pushed
half-
way
backtothe
"slow"
position.

the
tire
pressure.
Drivewheels
shouldbe
inflated
to39
psi.NOTE:
Newtiresare
overinflated
in
ordertoproperly
seat
thebeadtotherim.
Check
thatallnuts,bolts
andscrewsare
tight.
Checkthetension
ofthedeckdrivebelts:
*Remove
thedeck
covershieldandengage
the
bladeclutch.
*The
tension
ofthedeckdrivebelts
shouldbe
adjusted
sothataten-pound
pull
between
two
pulleys
deflectseach
beltabout1/2'. Donot
overtighten
thesebelts.Theblade
clutch
shouldengagewith
onlymoderateforce.
*Replacethe
deckcovershield
anddisengageihe
blade
clutch.

certain
you
thoroughly
understand
allofthe
safety
precautions
before
you
attempt
tooperate
thismachine.
Ghecktheengine
oillevel. Filltotheproper
level
withSAE-30engineoilratedforserviceSEorSF.
Movethemower
outdoors.
Checktheengine
gas-
olinelevel.When
fillingthetank,stopwhenthe
gasoline
reachesoneinchfrom
thetop. This
space
must
beleftforexpansion.
Use
fresh,
clean,
un-
leaded,
regular
gasoline.
Movethemower
toa "test
area"where
youcan
operatethemower
forabouthalf
anhourwithout
beingdisturbed.
Tostarttheengine:
a. Disengage
theblade
clutch.
b.Connectthespark
plug
wire.
c. Openthefuel
shutoffvalve.
d. Movethethrottlelever
tothehalf-way
posi-

e.Graspthestarter
gripandpull
slowlyuntilthe
starter
engagesand
then
pull
thecordrapidlyto
overcome
compression,
prevent
kickbackand
starttheengine.Allow
