The SOUND STREAM PQ-7isa state-of-the-art 6-channel
/ 7-band car audio equalizer, engineered for the correction
of resonancesand peaks causedbythe car's geometry
itself.
The PQ-7isnot meantto be used as sound control like
bass and treble controls.That makes no sense andwill
only strain the amplifier and speakers.
Additionally, the PQ-7 is equipped with a subsonic filter
and a phaseshifter to reducevery lowfrequencies and
to correct the phase of the subwoofer inrelationto the
other speakers.
Resonancesand peaks causedbythe car's own
,eometrycause distortions ofthefrequency response of
lewhole sound-systemwhich leadto adirty and boomy
'-or aggressive, coloratedsound, or both.
So, eventhe bestspeaker is not able to reproduce music
asitwas, sincethecar's own sound isalways addedto
the music.Byfiltering this garbage out, the sound becomes
moreclear, preciseand morehi-fi.

TIPS FOR MEASUREMENTS
Ifyouwant to go onestepfurther, optimizing the whole system
including Radio,amplifier, speakers and caracoustics, you
haveto take measurements with professional equipment,
likecomputer RTA(RealTimeAnalyzers). We recommend
Analyzers beingcapable ofconducting anaverage curve out
of manysingle plots inorderto take measurementsinseveral
positions. The microphone should bemovedslowlyfrom the
lefteartowards the nose and then to the rightearwhile about
30 single measurements are taken. Thisway, youwill get a
realaverage curve ensuringnotto hita pointwhich is not
representative atall.
SAFETY
Beforeyou make any conneetion, the battery must be
disconnected! u
A mainfuse must be installed intothe +12Vwire within
+thefirst 12 from the +terminalofthe battery
(insurance regulation!).
The fuse inthe power lineonly protects the device itself,
notthe battery and the car!
INSTALLATION
For safety reasons, the equalizer hasto bemountedproperly
andfixed to thecar's body. Pleasefix the device usingthe
screws that somewith your product. Becarefulwhen drilling
holes,there might bewires,fuel linesor the gas tank behind
a wall! Neverdrill holeswhen you do notknowwhat's behind.
Never install signal wires closeto power cables to avoid huln
and alternator noise is being induced.

1. CONNECTIONS
Beforeyou makeanyconnections, alwaysdisconnected
the battery!
1 .I Firstof all, connect the RCAcables comingfrom the
radio1head unit tothe respective inputsof your PQ-7.

Always run signal cables ina distance to power cables
andthe vehicles's factory wires to avoid induction of
noise.
1.2 The RCAsignalcables to the amplifier are nowcon-
nected to the
PQ-7 respective outputs.
1.3 Nextstep isthe ground connection. Check for agood
grounding point usingyour vehicle's chassis. Makesure
thatthis point hasgood electrical contact! Some parts
of
the chassis mightonly be glued and have nocontact
to battery
(-). Runall ground cables of the systemto
this point toavoid alternatorwhine andother noise.
1.4 Asthe next connection the +12V cable has to be
, connected tothe (+) terminal ofthe battery.Always be
careful nottorun this cable around sharp edges, the
insulationmight bedamaged. For holes always use
grommets!
Alwaysusean in-linefuse inthe +12V powercablein
max.
12 fromthe battery's + terminal (value must
meetthecurrent requirementsofthewholesound
system, minimumvalue is
60 A).
1.5 The lastconnection isthe remotewire. The headunit
must always beturnedoff during this connection, as it
might bedamagedwhen remoteoutput is shorted to
ground!
1.6 Nowyou can reconnect the batteryand insertthe main
fuse intothe powercable's fuse holder.

3. OPERATION
3.1 Turn onthe radioat lowvolume.
3.2 Adjust all Gain controls inexact midposition, all Q
controls to minimum.
3.3 Inserta CDwith pink noise to your CD player.
3.4 Take thefirst measurementofthe frequency response,
and savethe resulting curve.
3.5 Lookfor significantpeaksanddipsinthe plot. Try to
compensate them byturning upthe respective Gain
then frequency, and

Donot correctdips and peakswith too narrowbandwidth
3.6 You can alsodownloada specific adjustment fromour
website www.soundstream.com. This way you do not
needto take measurements,since our engineers
already havedonethis for you. Just adjust al controls
asshown inthefigure and your sound systemwill be
perfectly optimized.
