Many high end home theater systems have most of their
components, including the speaker, hidden away in cabinets. While
this conceals the hardware it can be detrimental to performance
unless the effects of the equipment cabinet are taken into account.
The CHS212 is a custom installation subwoofer counterpart to PSB’s
highly acclaimed SubSonic 10. The same high output/high travel 12”
woofers are used with the same 500 watt amplifi er and extensive
contouring and system-matching controls to produce virtually
unrestricted bass extension with audiophile-class speed and control,
and bone-jarring power.
The cabinet is much simpler than that of the SubSonic 10 with no
extra cosmetic details that would be wasted when built into another
cabinet. A tough texture paint cabinet is used with dimensions
chosen to fi t within most equipment cabinets. One 12” unit is front
fi ring while the second unit is mounted on the bottom of the cabinet
and is down fi ring. This assures that both the drivers and the two
port tubes are all tightly clustered and that all bass energy will have
no problem exiting the equipment cabinet.
The high output digital power amplifi er is highly effi cient. Dynamic
restoration circuitry, exclusive to PSB, allows very high peak power
to pass while providing sonic protection to sustained tones. The
end result is stupendous output, especially on transients, with
safe operation and freedom from audible distortion. The PSB
CustomSound CHS212 design settles the longstanding confl ict
between sound and design. Finally, media-system designers enjoy
the freedom to employ the types of speakers at every channel
their designs demand, with full confi dence of unsurpassed, PSB
Platinum-grade performance.

• The front fi ring and down fi ring woofers
should be near a cabinet opening or grille.
• The CHS212 amplifi er typically runs cool but
should have some airspace behind the rear
panel.
• Slowly run a sweeping bass test tone or
use a music disc with heavy bass to fi nd
equipment cabinet vibrations.
• Fix vibrations by fastening down unstable
panels or isolating them with foam or felt
materials.
• Engage crossover bypass switch when
utilizing crossover in preamp or receiver.
• If possible remove bottom shelf of cabinet
and place directly on the fl oor
• Consult owner’s manual for phase and
variable crossover adjustments. This will
affect upper bass level and transition to front
channels.
• Confi rm that AV controller or receiver’s bass
controls are properly set (“large”, “small”,
etc.).
