SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
4.
Save these instructions.
1) Work Area
a) Clear the area to be cut before each use. Remove all
objects such as rocks, broken glass, nails, wire, string etc. that
can be thrown or become entangles in the cutting attachment.
b) Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres,
such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or
dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or
fumes.
c) Take extra care in dangerous environments. To avoid
falling, do not use the product in damp or wet locations.
2) Personal Safety
a) Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common
sense when operating a power tool. Do not use a power tool
while you are tired, ill or under the influence of drugs, alcohol,
or medication. Operate unit only if you are physically and
mentally well. A moment of inattention while operating power
tools may result in serious personal injury.
RECOMMENDED CUTTING
AT TAC H M E N T S
A variety of blades are available from your Qualcut Brushcutter
servicing dealer. Always use a debris shield designed for use
with a blade when attaching a blade to your machine. The blade
type debris shield does not have a cutoff knife.
Grass / Weed Blades
Grass / weed blades, which may be plastic or metal, are used
as an alternative to nylon monofilament line for cutting grass
and ordinary weeds.
However, blades should never be used for edging against solid
surfaces.
Weed / Brush Blades
These metal blades have chisel-shaped teeth that are used for
cutting through field grass, thick weeds, and light brush.
They are not designed for sawing woody material. The teeth
must be sharp for good results.
Brush / Wood Blades
These metal saw-tooth blades are used for sawing through
saplings, shrubs and woody brush.
The teeth must be sharp for good results. Brush/wood blades
will also cut grass and weeds, but they are not efficient for that
purpose.

into account the working conditions and the work to be performed.
Use of the power tool for operations different from intended
could result in a hazardous situation.
f) Beware of blade thrust . Blade thrust may occur when the
spinning blade contacts an object that it does not immediately
cut. A blade thrust can be violent enough to cause the product
and/or operator to be propelled in any direction and possibly
lose control of the product. Blade thrust can occur if the blade
snags, stalls or binds. This is more likely to occur in areas where
it is difficult to see the material being cut.
g) Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it
on and off. Any power tool that cannot be controlled with the
switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
h) Turn tool off completely before making any adjustments,
changing accessories, or storing power tools. Such
preventive safety measures reduce the risk of starting the power
tool accidentally.
i) Stopping the brushcutter. A coasting blade can cause injury
while it continues to spin after the engine is stopped or the
throttle is released. Maintain proper control until the blade has
completely stopped rotating.
j) Taking care with adjustments. During carburettor adjustments
the cutting attachment may spin. Therefore you should wear
protective equipment and observe all safety instructions when
adjusting the carburetor
k) Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and
do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power tool or
these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools
are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.
l) Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding
of moving parts, breakage of parts and any other condition
that may affect the power tool’s operation. If damaged, have
the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused
by poorly maintained power tools.
m) Inspect the product before each use. Replace damaged
parts. Check for fuel leaks. Make sure all fasteners are in place
and secure. Replace cutting attachment parts that are cracked
chipped or damaged in any way. Make sure the cutting attach-
ment guard is properly installed and in the position recommended
by the manufacturer. NEVER use wire or wire rope which can
break off and become a dangerous projectile.
5.
b) Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection.Safety
equipment such as non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing
protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal
injuries. Wear no-slip, heavy-duty work gloves to improve your
grip on the handle. Gloves also reduce the transmission of
machine vibration to your hands.
c) Always wear protective clothing - long heavy pants,
boots and gloves. Do not wear loose clothing, jewellery, short
pants, open toed shoes or go barefoot. Secure hair so that it
is above shoulder level to avoid entanglement in moving parts.
d) Choose the right time of day. Heavy protective clothing
can increase operator fatigue which may lead to heat stroke.
Schedule heavy work for early morning or late afternoon hours
when temperatures are cooler.
e) Do not over-reach. Keep proper footing and balance at
all times. This enables better control of the power tool in un-
expected situations.
f) Keep pets, children, and bystanders outside a 15m radius.
3) Power Tool Use And Care
a) Check condition of brushcutter before use. The brushcutter
should be assembled as per manufacturer’s instructions. Do
not attach any blade to a product without proper installation of
all required parts. Failure to use the proper parts can cause the
blade to fly off and seriously injure the operator and/or bystanders.
Discard blades that are bent, warped, cracked, broken or
damaged in any way.
b) Never start or run the product inside a closed room or
building. Breathing exhaust fumes can cause illness or death.
c) Mix and pour fuel outdoors where there are no sparks
or flames. Slowly remove the fuel cap only after stopping the
engine. Do not smoke while fuelling or mixing fuel. Wipe spilled
fuel from the product immediately. Move at least 9m from the
fuelling source and site before starting engine.
d) Keep the cutting attachment below waist level. Keep all
parts of your body away from the rotating cutting attachment
and hot surfaces.
e) Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool
for your application. The correct power tool will do the job
better and safer at the rate for which it was designed, taking

Protecting your Body from Vibration
The following precautions are strongly recommended, because
the minimum exposure, which may trigger the ailment is unknown.
1. Always use the right tool for each job (to do the job more
quickly and expose you to less hand-arm vibration).
2. Check tools before using them to make sure they have been
properly maintained and repaired to avoid increased vibration
caused by faults or general wear.
3. Make sure cutting tools are kept sharp so that they remain
efficient.
4. Reduce the amount of time you use a tool in one go, by
doing other jobs in between. Try to fill each day with jobs
6.
4) Service
a) Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair
personnel using only identical replacement parts. This will
ensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.
EFFECTS OF VIBRATION
It is believed that a condition called Raynaud’s Phenomenen,
which affects the fingers of certain individuals, may be bought
about by exposure to vibration and cold - it may cause tingling
and burning sensations, followed by loss of colour and numbness
in the fingers.
If you continue to use high-vibration tools these symptoms will
probably get worse, for example:
• The numbness in your hands could become permanent
and you won’t be able to feel things at all;
• You will have difficulty picking up small objects such
as screws or nails;
• The vibration white finger could happen more frequently
and affect more of your fingers.
REPETITIVE STRESS
INJURIES (RSI)
It is believed that overusing the muscles and tendons of the
fingers, arms, hands and shoulders may cause swelling,
soreness, numbness, weakness or extreme pain in those areas.
Cerain repetitive hand activities may put you at a high risk for
developing a Repetitive Stress Injury (RSI).
An extreme RSI condition is Carpel Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)
which can occur when your wrist swells and squeezes a vital
nerve that runs through the area. It is believed that prolonged
exposure to vibration may contribute to CTS. CTS can cause
severe pain for months or even years.
To reduce the risks of RSI / CTS do the following:
• Avoid using your wrist in a bent, extended or twisted position.
Instead try to maintain a straight wrist position. Also, when
grasping, use your whole hand, not just the thumb and index
finger.
• Take periodic breaks to minimise repetition and rest your
hands.
• Reduce the speed and force with which you do the repetitive
movement.
• Do exercise to strengthen the hand and arm muscles.
n) Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained
cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind and
are easier to control.
o) Remove any adjusting key or wrench before turning the
tool on. A wrench or a key that is left attached to a rotating part
of the power tool may result in personal injury.
where operating the unit or other hand-held power equipment
is not required.
5. Avoid gripping or forcing a tool or workpiece more than you
have to.
6. Store tools so that they do not have very cold handles when
next used.
7. If you experience discomfort, redness, swelling of the fingers
followed by whitening and loss of feeling, consult your
physician before further exposing yourself to cold and
vibration.
8. Maintain good blood circulation by:
• Keeping your body warm, especially the head, neck,
feet, ankles, hands and wrists.
• Giving up or cutting down on smoking because smoking
reduces blood flow
• Performing vigorous arm exercises during frequent
work breaks.

THROWN DEBRIS
The trimmer will throw debris in the direction of blade movement
at the point of contact.
The cutting line head or blade on the Qualcut 3300ST trimmer
rotates anti-clockwise as viewed from the operator’s position,
so tilting the cutting line head to the right will throw debris away
from you, and tilting to the left will throw debris towards you.
If the cutting line head or blade is held parallel to the ground,
debris will scatter in all directions, and there will be greater
friction which will wear out the cutting line or blade sooner.
When operating the trimmer near a hard surface such as a wall,
work from an angle where debris that strikes the hard surface
will ricochet away from you.
!
!
SAFE OPERATING
PRACTISES
Be very careful when operating the brushcutter over uneven or
rough ground, and when the ground is wet and slippery. Watch
out for hidden obstacles that could cause you to stumble.
Operate the brushcutter only under conditions with good visibility.
Do not operate the brushcutter where you cannot see what it
is cutting.
WARNING! Rotating cutting lines can cause serious
abrasions and cuts, and blades can cut deeply.
• Keep away from the cutting lines or blade whenever
the engine is running.
• Always stop the engine, and be sure the cutting
line head has stopped turning, before inspecting
or handling the cutting lines or blade.
• Immediately stop using all your power equipment and consult
a doctor if you feel tingling, numbness or pain in the fingers,
hands, wrists or arms. The sooner RSI / CTS is diagnosed,
the more likely permanent muscle damage can be prevented.
Gravel, loose stones, etc. can be picked up by the nylon cutting
lines or blade and thrown many feet with enough force to cause
serious personal injury and/or property damage. Before crossing
gravelled areas, release the throttle trigger to stop the cutting
line head or blade.
WARNING! Keep all bystanders, especially children
and pets at least 15m from the operating area.

BLADE THRUST (KICKBACK)
Blade thrust (kickback) is the sudden, forceful, and uncontrolled
movement of a blade-equipped brushcutter that may occur if
the blade binds in the cut or strikes a solid object. It throws the
trimmer in the direction opposite blade rotation at the point of
contact, and the jolt received by the operator can result in further
loss of control.
To reduce the risk of loss of control:
• Replace or resharpen dull blades. Dull blades are more
likely to bind in the cut and cause blade thrust.
• Watch out for hidden obstacles, such as rocks, stumps,
roots, etc., that could cause the blade to kick back if struck.
Blade thrust is more likely to occur in areas where it is difficult
to see what is being cut.
• Understand the reaction forces of the blade.

POWER PRODUCTS LLC.
3300ST
8.
• When using a brush blade to saw through heavy brush
and small saplings, saw with the side of the brush blade that
is moving toward you and tends to pull the brushcutter away
from you.
• Blades on Qualcut brushcutters rotate counterclockwise, as
viewed from the operator’s position. Therefore, the left side
of the blade is moving toward you. Sawing with the left side
of a brush blade will give you better control and less risk of
kickback, though it will throw the sawdust toward you.
• Cut from the side of saplings that will cause them to fall
away from the brushcutter. This will help prevent the blade
from binding in the cut and kicking back.
• Accelerate the engine to maximum speed before starting
the cut, and saw through with uniform pressure.
OPERATING TIPS
Scything
• Swing the brushcutter in a level arc by rotating your body
with a smooth, easy motion, rather then moving the
brushcutter with your arms.
• Do not chop at tough weeds and brush; let the cutting line
or blade work through tough growths gradually.
• To direct thrown debris away from you, tilt the cutting
attachment to the right side, scythe from left to right, then
return without cutting.
Brush Clearing
• Clearing brush with a brush blade may require both scything
and sawing.
• Scything with the right side of the blade will direct thrown
debris away from you.
• Be especially careful to direct debris away from you if
recutting an area to shorten stumps. Short lengths of shrub
and sapling stumps may tear off and be thrown at high
speed.
• Sawing heavy brush and saplings with the left side of the
blade will reduce the risk of kickback.
Trimming & Edging
• Use nylon line for cutting against a hard surface. Work from
an angle where debris that strikes the hard surface will
ricochet away from you.
• Avoid contact with wires, wire fences, metal rods, etc. Over-
lapping a wire will cause the nylon line to wrap around the
wire and break off.

POWER PRODUCTS LLC.

9.
• Accelerate the engine to maximum speed before starting
the cut, and saw through with uniform pressure.
• If shrubs or saplings bind the blade, stop the engine, and
while supporting the weight of the brushcutter, push the
shrub or sapling away to free the blade. Do not use the
blade as a lever.
Operation on Slopes
• Start on the low side of a slope, and work upward. This will
reduce your risk of slipping and falling, and it will give you
a cutting angle that will better enable you to direct debris
away from you.
• Do not let the cutting line or blade dig into the slope, because
that can cause stones and dirt to be thrown at you.
• Do not raise the cutting attachment above waist level during
operation, because that would increase the risk of thrown
objects striking your face.
• Avoid steep slopes that would require holding the cutting
attachment above waist level. Avoid slippery slopes that
might cause you to lose your balance.

THE NYLON HEAD
WARNING! Read and understand these operating
instructions, as well as the information supplied with
your machine, and follow all warnings and safety
instructions. Failure to do so can result in serious
injury to the operator and/or bystanders.
• To advance the nylon line, bump the downward protruding
button onto the ground while maintaining engine speed.
• Do not bump the head to attempt to feed line when operating
the machine above 4,500 revolutions per minute.
• Optimum cutting speed is approximately 6,000 revolutions
per minute.
• If the head does not properly extend nylon line, check the
head for damage and rewind cutting line.
Rewinding the Head
CAUTION!
1. Remove the cover by depressing the locking tabs located
180 degrees opposite of each other (Fig 1).
2. Remove the line spool from the housing.
3. Fold 18 ft. of cutting line in two halves, leaving one half 3
inches longer than the other, (the three additional inches
will make the line even on both sides of the head when
wound on the spool).
4. The spool is divided in the center and has a slot to
accommodate the folded portion of the nylon line (Fig 2).
5. Wind the line firmly with one strand on either side of the
center divider according to the directional arrow indicated
on the spool (Fig 3).
6. Hook the line strands to the line holding notches on one of
the outer flanges of the spool. This will help to hold the line
in place while the spool is installed in the body of the head
(Fig 4). Leave 4 - 6 inches of the lines protruding from the
notches.
7. The tension spring should stay in the housing hub. Put the
spool onto the housing, positioning it to move up and down
freely against the spring tension.
8. Put the lines into the respective eyelets (Fig 5 & 6).
9. Put the cover onto the housing, aligning the locking tabs on
the cover. Make sure the tabs are fully locked into place in
the cover (Fig 7).
