ThisvalvecanbeusedtodivertthewaterflowifaproblemdevelopswiththeBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unit.
Thisvalvehastworedhandles,andislocatednearthebackoftheunit.SeeFigure7.Thevalvehastwopositions:
•Service‐Thisisthenormaloperatingposition.Whenthetwovalvehandlesareinlinewithwaterflow,theunit
canremoveradonfromtheincomingwater.
•Bypass‐Whenthetwovalvehandlesareperpendiculartowaterflow,theincomingwater“bypasses”the
Bubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unit.Usethispositiononlyifthereisaproblemwiththeunit.

ThewateralarmvalvecontrolisdesignedtoidentifyleakingproblemsintheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™.Itisdesigned
tomonitorradonventobstruction,highwaterandfittingleaks.Itdoesthisbyincorporatingawateralarmvalvefloat
switch,wateralarmfloorsensorandwateralarmtanktopterminalblocksensortosignalthewateralarmvalvecontrol
whichoperatesthemotorizedwateralarmballvalve.Seefigures13and14.
ImportantFeature:Thewateralarmvalvecanalsobeusedtocreateanynumberofremoteleakdetectionpointsby
connectingextraleadstotheleadsoftheterminalblock.
UsersGuide:
Pleasechoosethecorrectmodeonthemodeswitchshowninthepictureaccordingtotheapplication.Inthe
caseoftheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™,theswitchshouldbeinthenormalwaterposition.Seefigure5*
Thebuzzerwillbeepifthereisaradonventpipeobstruction,highwateralarmordetectedwaterleak,andat
thesametimeasignalwillbesenttotheexternalmotorizedballvalve.Thissignalwillcausetheballvalveto
closeandcutoffthewatersupplyimmediately.
Toresetthemotorizedballvalvetoitsoriginalopenposition,holdtheresetbuttonforthreeseconds.
Ayellowlightaccompaniedbythebuzzermeansthatthebatteryislow.Ifthisoccursreplacethebatteryas
soonaspossibletoavoidanyoverflowsduringapoweroutage.
ImportantinformationabouttheWaterAlarmValve:Thealarmonthiscontrolwillgooffifthereiswaterinsideofthe
control.Ifthisoccurs,fullydrytheinsideofthecontrolbeforereturningittoservice.

1. Besurethefloatswitchesarenottangledaroundthepumpbyremovingthe2”ventfittingandvisually
inspectingthefloat.

pipe.(Theoverflowpipeismountedneartherearoftheunit.SeeFigure7)Takethisintoaccountwhen
positioningtheunit.Itisbestiftheunitcanbepositionednearadrainorsumppitwithasumppump.
5. Depressthehighwateralarmfloatsoitisflushwiththerubbercordseal.(Figure6)
6. Setwateralarmsensoronfloorandwiretoterminalblock,onewireontheblackconnectionandonewireon
theredconnection.
Importantnoteaboutoverflow:TheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™incorporatesahighwateralarmfloatswitchinthecord
seal,awateralarmtanktopterminalblocksensorandawateralarmfloorsensor.Thecontrolwilloperatethewater
alarmvalveandshutoffincomingwaterwhenthereisanobstructionintheradonexhaustpipe,wateraroundthefloor
sensorortanktoterminalblocksensor,afaultyfloatswitchassembly,tangledfloatswitchassembly,orifthesolenoid
valveisstuckopen.Thiswateralarmvalvehasabatterybackupandwillfunctionduringapoweroutage.However,
additionaloverflowprecautionsshouldbetakensuchasconnectingtheoverflowtoaproperdrain.
Caution!Normally,theoutputfromthepumpisatapressureof70PSI.Thisshouldnotcreateaprobleminan
installationwheretheexistingplumbingisingoodcondition.However,inaninstallationwheretheexistingplumbing
cannotwithstandtheoperatingpressureoftheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™,theoutputfromthepumpmayproducea

stressontheplumbingandcauseleaks.Inthiskindofsituation,apressureregulatorshouldbeinstalledontheoutlet
sideoftheunitanddrawdowntank.
7. TheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™requiresaquadplexoutletwiredtoadedicated20Acircuit.Usea20ampduplex
GFCIreceptaclefortheyellowfloatswitchcordforUL(SeeFigure8).Thiscircuitshoulduse#12AWGwiring.
8. Installthe2.1gallonwaterexpansiontankontheoutletsideoftheunit.SeeFigure11.Thistankisincludedto
preventthepumpfromstartingandstoppingquickly(“shortcycling”)whenthereareshort‐termdemandsfor
smallamountsofwater.
9. Installapre‐filterontheinletsidetoprotectthesolenoidfromsedimentclogging.Seefigure11.Thepre‐filter
shouldbeasediment‐typefilterwitha5micronrating.Donotuseacarbon‐typefilter.

Importantinformationaboutventing:SincetheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unitremovesradoninthewater;theunit
mustbeventedcarefully.Commonpracticeistoruntheventuppasttherooflineofthebuilding.Anelevatedvent
openingprovidesthebestwayofdissipatingtheradongas.Protocolsrecommendextendingtheventopening2’above
thehighestopeninginthebuilding,andatleast10’awayfromthenearestopening.Itisrecommendedtoprotectthe
ventopeningwithaventscreen.Asinglefreehard(printed)copyoftheASTME‐2121standard(Recommended

StartUpProcedure
1. SettheredhandlesonthebypassvalvetotheServiceposition.
2. BeforeplugginginBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™,identifytheplug‐incords.Seefigure8.
3. Pluginthemetercontrolandwateralarmvalvecontrolpowercords.
4. Pushresetbuttononwateralarmvalvecontrolfor3secondstoopenthemotorizedballvalve.
5. Plugintheyellowcordfirst.Theblowershouldstart,andthesolenoidvalveshouldopentobeginfillingthe
tank.
6. Asthewaterlevelinthetankrises,thefillfloatswitchwilltiltup.Thiswillstoptheblowerandclosethe
solenoidvalve.
7. Oncethetankisfull,plugintheblackpumpcontrolcord.
8. Ifthepumpdoesnotstartdeliveringwatertothehouse,itmaybenecessarytoprimethepump.(Normallyyou
willonlyhavetodothisonce,whentheunitisfirstinstalled.)Thepumpissuspendedbyapipeunderneaththe
pumpcontrol.Unscrewtheunionandmovethepumpcontrolofftotheside.Youmayneedtosiphonor
vacuumthewaterupthispipetoremovetheairfromthepumpandprimeit.
9. Oncetheairhasbeenremovedfromthepump,replacethepumpcontrolandtightentheunion.Pluginthe
pump.Ifthepumpdoesnotstartdeliveringwatertothehouse,repeattheprimingsequence.
10. Aftertheunitisoperating,runaradontestoftherawwaterandthefilteredwatertoensurethattheunitis
reducingradonlevelsinthewater.
RadonTestingNote:Itisimportanttoinstallanewsamplevalveorboilerdraininnewpipingsothattheradontesting
isnotinfluencedbyoldpiping.
11. Performthesix‐monthmaintenanceprocedure,andfillouttheStart‐UpDatapageattheendofthismanual.
OperatingInstructions
OncetheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™hasbeeninstalled,itshouldoperatewithverylittleattention.
NormalOperation
MainUnit
Theunitshouldnotneedanyoperatorattention.Whenwaterisusedinthehouse,the2.1gallonwaterexpansiontank
deliverswaterdemand.Whenthepressuredropstothesetpressure,themechanicalpumpcontrolstartstheBubble‐
Up®JrInteractive™pumptodeliverwatertothehomeandrefillthe2.1gallonwaterexpansiontank.Whenthe
mechanicalpumpcontrolsensesnormalhouseholdpressure,themechanicalpumpcontrolshutstheBubble‐Up®Jr
Interactive™pumpoff.AsthewaterlevelfallsintheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™maintank,thefloatswitchpowersthe
blowerandsolenoidtofilltheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™tankwithtreatedwater.
LowWaterCut‐OutFloatSwitch
ThepumpwillautomaticallystopwhenthereislowwaterintheBubble‐Uptank.Thepumpwillautomaticallyrestart
whenwaterisreplenished.
WaterAlarmValve
Thewateralarmvalveisinplaceforprotectionagainstleakingoroverflowingandwillnotoperateunlessoneofthese
thingshappens.Oncethewateralarmvalvecontrol,overflowalarmfloat,floorsensororterminalblocksensesa
probleminthesystemthewateralarmvalvecontrolactivatesthemotorizedballvalveandshutsofftheincoming
water.Thewateralarmvalvecontrolwillalsosoundanalarmtoidentifythatthereisaproblem.

BypassingtheUnit
Ifaproblemdevelops,theBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unitcanbetakenoutofthewatersupplysystemwiththebypass
valve.Therestofthewatersystemwilloperatenormally,buttheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™willnotbeabletoprovide
anyprotectionagainstradoninthewater.
Caution!Donotcontinuetooperatethewatersupplysystemthiswayforalongtime.Correcttheproblemwiththe
Bubble‐Up®JrInteractive™andreturnittoserviceasquicklyaspossible.
Maintenance
Everysixmonths:
•Checktheoperationofthefloat,pumpcontrol,solenoidvalve,andtheblowerbyturningonawatertapand
allowingittorun.Atfirst,thewaterwillbesuppliedbythe2.1gallonwaterexpansiontank,andthenthepump
shouldturnon.Afewminuteslater,youshouldheartheblowerstartandthesolenoidvalveshouldopen.(The
unitcannotremoveradonunlesstheblowerisworking.)
•Checktheincomingflowrateonthemetercontrol.Typicalwellpumpfillratesarebetween4and7GPM.
Higherflowratesystemsareavailable.
•Shutoffthewatertap.ThetankintheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unitshouldfillinlessthantwominutes.
•Checktheoutletoftheventlinetoensurethatitisnotblocked.
•Checkthatthemotorizedballvalveisoperatingcorrectlybycrossingtheleadsoftheterminalblockorraising
thehighwaterfloat,orwettingthefloorsensor.Thisshouldactivatethemotorizedballvalveandshutoffall
incomingwater.HoldtheRESETbuttononthefrontofthewateralarmvalvecontrolforthreesecondsto
returnthemotorizedballvalvetoitsopenpositionaftereachtest.
•Disinfecttheunitasneeded.(Pouroneounceofbleachintotheblowerattachmentnipple.)
•Replace9‐voltbatteryinWaterAlarmValveControl
Everyyear:
WerecommendthatyouhaveyourBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™unitcheckedonceayearbyaqualifiedinstaller.The
yearlycheckupmayincludethesesteps:
•Runrawwaterandfilteredwaterradontests.
•Replacethecartridgeinthepre‐filteranddisinfect.
•CleanthemainBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™tankasdescribedbelow.
•Disinfecttheunitasneeded.(Pouroneounceofbleachintothepre‐filtercartridgehousing.)

•Checktheoperationofbothfloatswitches,lowwaterandfill.
Everyfiveyears:
Replacebothfloatswitches,lowwaterfloatandfillfloat.
Cleaningthetank:
1. Unplugallpowercordstotheunitexceptthepumpcontroller.
2. Runawaterfaucetuntilmainstoragetankisempty.
3. Unplugthepumpcontroller.
4. SetthebypassvalvetotheBypassposition.
5. Removetheblowerandsetittooneside.
6. Runa3/8”ODtubedownthecenteroftheair‐watercouplerabout3feetandvacuumorsiphonoutthewater
inthebubblingchamber.
7. Undothewaterinletlineatthepointwhereitmeetstheair‐watercouplingbelowtheblower.Seefigure6.

8. Removethemanifoldbydisconnectingitfromthebypassvalveandremovingthemountingscrewlocated
behindthemetercontrol.
9. Undothe8screwsaroundthelargecirculartopcover.Carefullyremovethecover,withtheattachedinternal
tank.Nowyoucancleantheinsideofthetank.
10. Pumporsiphonthewateroutofthetank.
11. Vacuumoutanyremainingwaterwithawet/dryvacuum.
12. Washdowntheinsideofthetank.Thismayrequiresomescrubbing.Ifalayerofmineralshascollectedatthe
bottomofthetank,removethislayer.Iftheminerallayerincludesarustymaterial,youmayhavetousea
reducingchemicaltodissolveandneutralizetherust.

15. Reconnectthewatersupplylinetotheair‐watercouplingbelowtheblower.
16. Disinfecttheunit.(Pouroneounceofbleachintotheblowerattachmentnipple.)
17. Installtheblower.Firmlysliptheblowerontotheblowerattachmentnippleandtightenclamp.
18. SetthebypassvalvetotheServiceposition
19. Restarttheunit.Followtheinstructionsinthe“StartupProcedure.”
20. Checkallsealstoensuretheyareairorwatertight.
RemovingthePumpandLowWaterFloat:
1. Unplugbothpowercordstotheunit.SetthebypassvalvetotheBypassposition.
2. Removepipingontopofmechanicalpumpcontrolandunscrew1”unionlocatedunderthemechanicalpump
control.
3. Unplugandremovethepumpcontrol.
4. UnplugthepiggybackfloatswitchcordfromtheduplexoutletboxontheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™.
5. Loosenthe4nutsonthepumpaccessseal.Seefigure6.Donotremovethetopnutssothattheboltsdonot
fallintoBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™mainwatertank.Notethatthedirectionofthefloatswitchcordistowards
theair‐watercouplingsothatitcanbere‐installedinthesameposition.
6. Liftthepumpaccesssealoffofthemainwatertank.Thismayrequirepryingwithaflatscrewdriverortwo.
7. Liftandpulloutfillfloatswitchandthenpumpfromthemainwatertank.SeeFigure10.
8. Retrievelow‐waterfloatandhighwateralarmfloatthroughthepumpaccesshole.

Low‐WaterPumpCut‐out
Alowwaterfloatswitchisusedtoturnoffthepumptoprotectitfromrunningdry.Thepumpwillautomaticallyrestart
whenwaterlevelreturnstonormal.Ifthewateralarmvalveorsolenoidisstuckclosed,incomingwaterwillnotbe
allowedtoentertheBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™maintank.Thiswillcausethetanktoemptyandthelowwaterfloatto
turnoffthepumptoprotectitfromrunningdry.Ifthewellpumpfailstherewillbenowaterenteringthemaintankof
theBubble‐Up®JrInteractive™alsocausingthelowwaterfloattoturnoffthepumptoprotectitfromrunningdry.
NoWaterfromtheBubbleUp(noalarmissounding)
Cause:LowwaterfloatswitchshutoffBubble‐Up®Jrpump.
Example:TheBubbleUpInteractiveincludesalowwaterfloatswitchtostoptheBubble‐Up®Jrpumpfromdelivering
waterflowtothehousewhenthewaterlevelintheBubbleUptankistoolow.Thisprotectsthepumpfromrunningdry.
ThisfloatswitchwillautomaticallyrestarttheBubbleUppumponcewaterlevelrisestonormallevels.

Theseconditionsarecausedbywaterdetectionduetohighwaterlevels,waterleaks,condensationEtc.
AlsoiftheairventpipingisrestrictedtheBubble‐Up®JrblowercannotfreelyblowtheairoutoftheBubble‐Up®Jr.This
willcauseblowerbackpressurewhichwillforcewateruptheoverflowpipetobereleasedthroughthebreathervent,
causingthesensorsontheterminalblocktodetectanoverflowofwater.Ventpipingbackpressurecanbecausedbyan
obstruction,icebuild‐up,watertrappedinareversepitch,excesspipefittingsorpipelength.
